View 3 RepliesI Just switched from DSL to Charter Communications Cable internet. For some reason my computer wont see the internet. I plug the same cord into my brothers computer and the internet works just fine. I plug the same cord back into the DSL and i have internet. I have done troubleshooting and it finds this problem (Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding. I switched to a different cable modem same exact situation. Works on my brothers but not mine. My computer is a much newer and more capable computer then his. When we activated the internet we did it on his computer, but before we switched to charter i plugged the modem in without internet and it seemed to have the same problem. I just got more results on his as it immediately directed my to the charter page at that time. On mine i got nothing. ( Also i believe my brother said that it did work on my computer for a few minutes at first but i'm not 100% on that.)

It works nicely enough. What is wrong is that I have a shielded Cat 5e cable that goes from my room to the router that's in a another room (~30 metres). Both ends are the same; both ends are done nicely; I've tested it with a cable tester and every wire connects. However, when i connect my computer to my router neither one will find the other.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI have a new router (ASUS RT-N10)and It is asking me to direct connect my cable modem to my computer, and then find my MAC address via command prompt, and clone it to the new router.I can get to my command prompt, the problem lies in windows 7 and vista's (or mine) inability to realize that my network card is directly connecting to the modem. (No internet connection available, doesn't think anything is connected). I have tried on multiple machines to try and find my modem's mac address but it simply is not working.I want to know if I can find the mac address through the old router, or what I need to do to have windows 7 recognize I'm directly connecting the modem to the PC.

new HP 2000 computer he just purchased. I brought it to my house to set it up. No problems connecting to wifi at my home. Downloaded all the updates and got it ready for his house. When I tried connecting to his network, it kept giving me the network key. I know I was entering the correct information because we had his older computer and I copied the exact thing. I had also made a folder when I set up his other computer with his information for his network in it and I was going by that. I tried to automatically connect and I also tried to manually connect. I deleted the name of my network (that worked) and rebooted. It continually gives me the block to put the password in. I brought it back to my house and the wifi connected with no problems. His old toshiba had no problems connecting to his network. I disconnected it and reconnected it. Is there something about the settings I am not doing? Or is it a firewall setting? Is there something in the modem that is conflicting with the new HP. It's a WAP2 Personal with AES Encryption (did not work on that one), where as my network is a WPA Personal with TKIP Encryption (worked on this one). Will that make a difference and if so what do I do about it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop (win7) and desktop (vista) in a network. The laptop is wireless and the desktop is hard-wired into a d-link router. My computer recently updated and since then I cannot connect to my desktop from my laptop. The desktop shows up in the network map but when I click it, it hangs and says "network path not found". I can ping the IP and the name of the PC from command line but I cannot access it. I have internet connectivity the whole time regardless and I've tried multiple routers.
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have recently become the proud owner of a Sony Xperia P which I would to be able to connect to Wifi in my bedroom. Unfortunately, as my router's WLAN isn't strong enough to reach my room (I get internet on my laptop via ethernet cable) I need to use my laptop as a hotspot to be able to connect my phone. So I set up an ad-hoc network to share my laptop's internet connection via its own Wifi. I'm pretty confident I followed all the required steps accurately (enabled LAN connection sharing, etc), but when I try to connect to my new ad-hoc network on my laptop's list of wireless networks, I just get indefinitely stuck in the "Waiting for the network..." stage. I also tried with WEP security disabled, so no key was required, but to no avail. I know the laptop's wifi works fine as I can connect to my router (when in range) without a problem. Needless to say, my ad-hoc network is also not yet appearing on my phone's wifi connections.Running XP SP3, with Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a computer on a school network, i recently set up a WDS server to make rebuilding computers allot easier and faster. I created an image for a Inspiron Desktop 560ST but when i tried to redeploy the image back on the exact same computer while connecting to WDS deployment service i get this error.
<Installing windows>WdsClient: An error Occured while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server. check to ensure that there is an operational DHCP server on this network segment.

Our default IP is not a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx it is 172.xxx.xxx.xxx so thats obviously not right, and then I try typing ipconfig /renew and it waits a super long time and then i get Windows IP Configuration:An Error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.An error occurred while releasing interface LoopBack Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system can not find the file specified. This computer is part of a lab of about 25 computer and every other computer has no problems, even if i take the network cable out of this computer and plug it into the computer right next to it(I'm take it right from one computer to another, i'm not touching the switch end) the computer right next to it is fine. So its not the switch or the cable.
So I'm currently running window 7 on my msi GT683-R. As of yesterday my internet stopped working, however only on my msi. I'm currently typing this on a borrowed mac using the same network that doesn't work on the other device. It also works on my iPhone. The problem is, neither the wifi nor the wired works on my MSI. I made sure DHCP was on, ran a TCP/IP stack reset, a winsock reset, have restarted my computer/router multiple times, and disabled bonjour but nothing seems to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless router. The first time I connected my computer to it, it worked. I went in to change the network password, and after that, it stopped working. Every single other device I have will connect, including other laptops, but this one won't. In the network and sharing center it shows that my network is available, but it will not connect. I have tried everything I can think of. I have looked all over the internet, nd still can't figure it out!!!! My computer's wifi IS on so its not that. The only thing that the trouble shooter tells me to do is unplug the router and restart it and that has not worked after several tries. Also is there a way to reset the computers recognition of networks? Im wondering if that would work if I could completely restart the process again, but I dont know how to get to that. I have a dell inspiron with windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFrom our Exchange server, I am completely unable to communicate with one of our partner's mail server. I cannot ping it by either the host name or IP address. Trace route times out at the final hop. The firewall is disabled, and antivirus (ESET) is temporarily disabled. I cannot access the IP through the web browser either, everything times out. However, every other computer on our network can connect fine. I haven't seen any other problems with any other IP addresses, it seems to be only this one that I can't connect to, and only from our Exchange server. All computers are going through the same gateway, using the same internet connection, and using the same DNS servers. The computer that I'm having the problem on is a static IP. All settings look correct, and match another server that I can access the IP from.I've checked the hosts file for anything, and it is in it's default state.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI try to maintain a sizable network at my workplace. We have 10 desktops, 3 laptops (sometimes more) 4 printers/fax, etc.etc. I have just ordered a new HP Pavilion Slim-line S5000 Series with Windows 7 Pro. I cannot get it to connect to the Network. I have set up the server (which runs windows server 2008) with an account called "communications" I have named the computer "communications". I go to the system and security>system: computer name, domain, workgroup settings>change settings. I enter all the information correctly, and it tells me it cannont find the network path. This is happening on this brand new computer, and our old dell optiplex 760 (running windows vista pro). We use a netgear pro-safe 24 port 10/100 switch hub, and a linksys wireless G broadband router model WRT54GS.

The problem is that I can see the network I need to connect to and I am putting in the correct network key but it just won't let me connect to it. There are three other computers using the wireless so it isn't the modem... and my iPhone is working on it. I am wondering if it has something to do with the IP... View 12 Replies View Relatedmy computer cannot connect to the internet, and there are unidentified network in my computer.
i hve attach a image for my ipconfig.
I am trying to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop, but when I open the 'network' folder from the start menu to access the desktop from the laptop, the desktop computer is not shown. I ensured that the workgroup names are the same, all sharing is turned on on both computers in Network and Sharing Center, since it is a private network, I checked the router settings and nothing seems to be wrong. The desktop is running Windows Vista Business x86 and the laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, so there is no way to make a Homegroup connection. However, I can see the laptop computer from the desktop's network folder. I click on it to gain access, but I get an error message: "Network Error, Windows cannot access \****-PC, check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. Error code: 0x80070035 The network path was not found." have checked all wiring, router settings, and nic card settings, have done a successful ping, even Network and Sharing Center, I have also checked sharing permissions and permission levels, I see nothing that could possibly affect the access of the computers.
The only thing I can think of is that when I click on the 'Network ID' button under the Computer Name tab in System Properties on the desktop, it asks join a domain or workgroup, it will not let me save the selection "This is a home computer; it's not part of a business network," that may or may not be the issue, because it will only remain on "This computer is part of a business network" probably because I am running Windows Vista Business.
I get this message when trying to connect to server the remote computer is not available on the network.ISP provider was changed so was IP address.
