Plugging In Internet Cable Makes Computer Stop Responding?
Apr 14, 2013Yesterday I was on my cousin's computer, and we had to remove the ethernet cord to connect it to mine as my wireless adapter wasn't cooperating with his internet. This was all fine and dandy until we had to plug the ethernet cord back into his computer. It locks everything up. If you try to open a program, it won't open. If a program is already open when the cord is plugged in, it stops responding within 15 seconds.I called my brother, and he suggested I run a virus scan via Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes, which I did. MalwareBytes found 5 problems, MSE found 1 additional one. They have all been removed, however this problem still persists. If you try to start the computer with the ethernet cord plugged in, it will allow him to put in his password, it will say welcome for about 3-5 minutes, then the screen will go black. The mouse is visible, doing it's motion to indicate that it's loading something, but it never achieves anything.

For some reason, whenever I connect a ehternet cable to my computer, I cannot seem to get internet connection through it. Some days ago I installed this Wireless Lan device from a CD, that came with a sort of antenne I had to put on my computer. It works great, BUT its slow. Thats why i would like to go on internet with cable again. I remember one day to another that my computer didn't detect the cables anymore, what could be the problem?

Sep 2, 2012I recently moved into the dorms of my college and tried connecting my laptop to the internet using an ethernet cable. It worked, so I decided to try and play Xbox Live through the use of the ethernet cable and it did not work. After messing around with it and failing to get it to work for my Xbox 360, the ethernet decided to quit working for my computer as well. (To try and get my Xbox to connect to the internet with the ethernet cord, I tried network bridging by bridging the ethernet connection with the wireless connection, then unplugging the ethernet cable from the wall so as to connect it from my laptop to Xbox 360. This didn't work so I just deleted the bridge. This is when the problem started happening as the local connection stopped appearing.) I am able to plug it in and see that in the Network and Sharing Center, however, it shows up as being unplugged. After a couple seconds though, it disappears. If I click on it fast enough, it shows up with an Error Code 45 after looking at the properties. I have tried typing in ipconnfig /all and the ethernet connection doesn't show up there either.

Feb 14, 2011i have a DSL connection which is established using a dial-up (PPPoE) modem. I recently bought a wifi router, and I found that when I plug the cable to one of the LAN ports and the laptop, it seems as if it wasn't connected at all (not detected on either side).I tried to format the system running on XP and I installed windows 7 but the problem persists.The only thing I can think of right now is using a crossover cable, but I somehow doubt that it should work since I tried plugging the router to my netbook (using a normal cable) and it worked like a charm. But maybe the fact that it's a quite old laptop (PB MV51-101) has something to do?

Mar 7, 2012My roommate and I are trying to set up the internet, but my computer won't detect the Ethernet Cable. Whenever I go to Network and Sharing Center and try connecting to the internet, the computer simply says "Windows did not detect any networking hardware", even though the light is clearly on and should be working. The cable is also new so it should be fine. I've also been looking around on the internet a bit, and in trying to fix the problem it looks like some of my Services are turned off, which seems to be causing the problem. However, whenever I try and turn them on, I get an error message saying "The dependency service or group failed to start".

Desktop Computer Failed To Detect Local Network?
Sep 21, 2011My desktop failed to detect the local area network, but my laptop successfully detects that network. What may be the reason? Both the case, the green light is blinking (Means there is not problem with the cable/line ?). Is it a problem related to the network pin? The same desktop is successfully connecting through another line. So it means, it not an issue with desktop computer or it's configuration.

Feb 23, 2011My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

May 18, 2011I have an Asus 1001 PG netbook. I am having problems with my home wifi network. When I turn on my laptop, I do not receive the signal for our home wifi network. However, I know that the network is working because other laptops at home are able to detect it. I don't think there is anything wrong with the laptop because I can still detect other wifi networks in our neighborhood. The problem only seems to be with our home wifi network. If I restart the computer, the problem is usually solved. This is not an efficient solution for me as I am used to turning my laptop off on hibernate and I don't like having to reopen all my documents.

Nov 9, 2011we recently upgraded our home router and have been having trouble ever since. Our old router was a Netgear one, so we bought a newer netgear model. Since installing the new one we can not get my daughters laptop, an iPad and ipods to work on the wifi. My computer is wired into the router and works fine, it is just the wireless. All of these things worked perfectly using our old netgear wirelss modem and all of them can find the wireless network on their list of available networks, they all say that they are connected with a good signal, but when they try to browse the internet or check emails, it comes up saying not connected to the internet. We even bought a range extender because we thought the signal might not be strong enough between the new router and my daughters bedroom which are at opposite ends of the house and on different floors, but it made no difference and wasn't a problem before.
Anyway, the router we bought is a Netgear N150 wireless modem router DGN1000, the cables are plugged in to ports 1 and 4 ( there is only 1,2,3 and 4 to choose from). The extender is a Netgear universal range extender WN2000RPT
I have tried turning it all off and back on again, have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but still nothing. Daughters laptop uses Vista and she has McAfee security. Exactly as it has always been and has worked fine using our old wireless router, just not this new one.

Zte Zxv10 W300 / Pc On Wifi Network Makes All Others Lag?
Oct 19, 2012wireless connection of my router, which is a ZTE ZXV10 W300 provided by my ISP. Me and my brother have our PCs on the same room and have decent signal at all times. The problem is that when my sister connects her netbook to the network wifi becomes unusable for us. I mean normally ping to the router from my pc is 1ms and when she connects it will get to the thousands or even time out. My sisters netbook has an atheros 9285 card, and the other two computer have a d-link n adapter, and a us robotics g adapter. I have tried multiple configurations such as b/g or b/g/n, with wpa or wpa2 but the problem persists. I checked my sisters netbook for viruses thouroughly, with malwarebytes, microsoft security essential +2-3 other antiviruses and none found anyhting. I also updated her driver to the latest i found. I am getting desperate here, and i do wish i wont have to buy another router. Just to clarify the problem is not internet speed, should be able to handle (and used to be) 5-6 computers at once, it is the connection to the router itself.

Dec 6, 2011I have an HP 510 laptop running windows xp. Wherever i go, i am able to connect through wifi with a password except for where i live. I have had no problems connecting anywhere else. All other laptops and pc's connect through the network i cant access. I get a 'limited or no connectivity' message with details displaying either 'network did not assign a network address to the computer', 'cannot connect to the internet' or 'cannot renew ip address. I reviewed a few older posts and have tried ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, ipconfig/all to no avail. i also tried netsh ip reset reset.log and netsh windows catalog(or something along those lines) from the earlier post i read, still nothing. I do notice that when i go to properties the wep password always reverts to one i did not enter, and once in a great while when i re-enter it the icon will show 'connected to network, excellent signal strength' but Internet Explorer says not able to connect. I cant seem to figure out why i connect fine everywhere else, and why every other 'guest' computer connects to this network.
i connect using Intel(R) PRO/wireless 2200BG under properties>general under properties>wireless networks>association use windows to config is checked under properties>network>properties the network authentication is 'open' and data encryption is set to 'wep' while the network key reverts to something i did not enter. key provided is not checked under properties>wireless networks>authentication 'enable ieee 802.1x authentication for this network is not checked
