View 4 RepliesI have a Zyxell Modem/Router with 4 ethernet ports running 10/100, if i plug a gigabit switch in to this and then plug 3 PC's into the gigabit switch, (each PC has a gigabit NIC) will the router pull the network down to transfer all data at 100mbps or will the PC's continue to transfer at 1000mbps and only the connection from internet router will be at 100mbps.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm asked to think of a solution to make in an existing LAN connected by switches (connected to each other) to make another network availible.atm we have a network with 192.168.110.0 and we are short on IP adresses because of a large DHCP pool from wireless clients and a growing network with static IP addresses. So basicly what i want to accomplish is an extra network 192.168.111.0 in the existing LAN and all computers have to be able to communicate to each other and all computers have to be able to connect to the internet using gateway 192.168.110.1 (direct or trough route tables). For future growth an extra LAN 192.168.112.0 with not perse internet access for only VOIP, but that is on the side and is not a priority, because I can set up that network on the same switches easy without having them to be able to connect to the computers and servers in the network. (correct me if I am wrong)
What I found out browsing the internet is that a layer 3 switch may provide the solution, but I can't make out of the technical specs if thats going to work when both LAN's computers will be connected on the same switches. Also I found a lot of solutions with setting up a server with 2 NIC's and setting up routes on that server. But since we have a very large amount of network traffic with large graphical files, having 2 nics to route all that trafic doesn't seem like a desirable solution for my purpose.
We have 2 separate networks here, 1 for data (192.168.0.x) and 1 for VOIP phones (192.168.3.x).
I need them to both be connected to different ports on a switch (Cisco SG 300 10 port managed switch) which is then linked to another switch (Cisco Catalyst 2960 48 port switch). Then on this 2960 switch I want the link to be split back into the 2 separate networks. I think that I need to create 2 separate VLANs and assign them to different ports.
Any pointers on configuring security on a Cisco 3750X switch that sits on a public (WAN) network. It will distribute connectivity to individual ASA firewalls as there are only two main links from upstream. Obviously I'll be disabling the http server, SSH (besides the management interface), etc.I know I can create ACL's, but worried about performance? I'm looking at blocking Netbios and other protocols that are not nessesery on our network. I've been told to disable the default VLAN... is that a good idea? And instead use the management port? I've looked around but there doesn't seem to be much information about what you should enable or disable on public switches.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have many remote offices that we want to add public wifi and a couple of other services that would be completely outside of our internal network. Each office has a 3750 with plenty of open ports. How can I safely create a vlan for public access on these switches which currently have our internal network on. I have read that people are doing this to save on the cost of purchasing a dedicated switch. Some people are using access lists and one person mentioned creating a private vlan for the public network. I looked up private vlan and it seemed bit confusing.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a customer that has a fiber rum between 2 building. They want to have 2 seperate fibers active that terminate into the same switch on each end. (redundancy).
In building A they have an extreme networks black diamond switch that does not support STP.In bulding B they have a Cisco 4507.
We will ahve to use a layer 3 routed connection due to the fact their switch in building A does not support STP.Our tech does not want to use static route becuase he does not want to setup IP SLA for the redundant connection.
Will RIPv2 work for this scenario and failover to the other fiber if needed? The hop count is the same for each fiber path..
This has me baffled: since the weekend I've been unable to connect to certain networks. Previously I could connect to any available network as normal, but all of a sudden I can't get onto certain network connections despite the fact they are available and at full signal strength. Some connections are fine, others are not.Something odd happens when I unsuccessfully try to connect: a window pops up but in the blink of an eye disappears again before I have time to register whether it's an error message or what.I've checked for Window updates and am fully updated, I've run my virus scan (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I've performed Windows Network Diagnosis to no avail.otel overseas and am now feeling the problem as I can't get onto the hotel's free wifi and am having to use my iPhone as a personal hotspot which is costing me a bomb
View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently, I upgraded my PC into basically a completely new machine. Because the harddrive that I planned on using was IDE, and my IDE-Sata adapters weren't being recognized on BIO, I used a fresh sata harddrive and a copy of Windows XP Professional.
It booted fine, all parts recognized, only now I cant connect to any LAN networks. I only get the option for VGN, Broadband and Dial-up networking. Using a laptop at the moment
I've tried two different usb adapters, and connecting the LAN cable directly into the PC. The cable works on another desktop in the house, but my PC wouldnt let me make the LAN network.
I have two router as well as two switch. 1st router is Dlink's router, I used this router for sharing files and folders and also connect to NET. And 2nd router used for Windows Media Encoder to upload my audio data to other computer. My first router is connected with a 16 port DLink switch, and also 2nd router is connect with another 8 Port Dlink router. Now, 1 computer has two LAN card and it connect with both router through switch. But both is not working at a time, but if i disable one LAN another is worked and vice versa.

In fact I can't connect to any networks.. Windows tells me there are none available, but i'm using my laptop right next to my pc and there should be at least 5 connections including mine..
I DO HAVE a wireless card in there... but is there something you need to do to like activate it / turn it on? I can see the card listed in device manager.. it says it is working properly. Just can't connect to anything!
All i wanted to do was do some browsing on my new pc but looks like I will have to wait.
I purchased a network storage device and would like every one i the house to be able to access it.I have attached a small diagram on how everything is connected. The modem given to me by my ISP has only 2 lan ports i can use(lan1 and Lan2)This modem is configure with the IP range 192.168.2.XXXOn this i have connected a netgear router and have configured it with the internal network IP range 192.168.1.XXXOriginal i had ALL PC's and devices connected to this router and everythign worked fine, but when using download software i.e. P2P the speeds would cause the router to crash and i had to go and power restart it to work. Becuase of this i connected MY PC directly to my ISP's modem so i dont keep crashing the router.
This all works fine, but i recently purchased a network storage drive that i would like every one to have access in the house.Becuase the Storage drive and my PC are on the IP range 192.168.2.xxx and everything connected to the router is on the IP range 192.168.1.xxx how can i give everyone access to the storage drive ??I know if i reconnect my PC and drive back on the netgear router it will work but i cant do that becuase of the location and becuase of the original issue of when downloading on my PC it would block the router.
I want to connect two networks together via the internet and VPN. I currently have two Windows 2k8 Servers housed at both locations. I've tried to do as much as I could myself but clients on both sides cannot access each other. I set-up the Remote Router function on both Servers and connected them but I still cannot ping or access any of the remote resources on that network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 3 computers running XP, one running Windows 7 and 3 smart phones all connecting to a Netgear JWNR2000v1 Wireless- N 300 Router. All of them connected fine until about a month ago the XP machines all started having problems, until finally none of them would connect or could even detect the router at all. The smart phones and Windows 7 computer have never had a single problem connecting. My daughter has tried to use one of the XP machines at some coffee shops with no success, I assume they are "N" networks. I pulled out an old "G" router and they can all connect to that one without a problem. The XP machines are all different, one Compaq, one Dell, and one Toshiba. None of them have any detectable viruses, using Eset and Windows Security Essentials.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use multiple computers in my house, I was just wondering, how would I go about connecting to 2 different networks on Windows 7 simultaneously?I have a router/modem downstairs which is connected to the internet & all of our computers, and I also have a modem/router in my bedroom that isn't connected to the internet, but I'd like to use it to share files and other things throughout my house.I've quite easily managed to connect to both networks at the same time, but as soon I connect to the wired network (the one without internet connection) I lose connection to the internet, even though I'm still connected to the wireless network which is connected to the internet.I've read a few different articles and posts about this same issue, but I can't find how to be connected to both & still have a connection.

I found the latest ones though, but it seems it doesnt work (no networks will show). I have to choose the pretty outdated drivers, and it cant connect to WPA, WPA2, and hell, even open networks.

View 14 Replies View RelatedMy laptop can see available networks, but is unable to connect to any of them.I have run Microsoft Security Essentials and the scan comes back fine, ran CC Cleaner as well as Malware Bytes and those scans both come back fine as well.I have also re-seated my wifi card, as well as attempted a TCP/IP stack repair option. However none of these fixed my issue. What could be preventing my laptop from connecting to a network? I have also tried to boot into Safe Mode w/ Networking, and the pc is unable to connect there either.I have also disabled all security on my router, it is just an open network no security, broadcasting the SSID.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Windows 7, and when I lived at my house I was able to connect to wireless networks without a problem. I just moved today into my brother's old apartment and for some reason I can't connect to his wireless network. I can see it along with a number of other wireless networks, but I'm unable to connect to any of them. When I attempt to connect to a network absolutely nothing happens. Typically at the bottom right corner of my screen something will pop up saying it's trying to connect, but for some reason that isn't popping up. I know it's not a problem with the router because I'm unable to connect to any of the networks, and I also had no trouble when I tried to connect to it with my laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just configured a 2 computers into a routers and and connected them to each other. My computer is them connected to one of the routers(configured PCs). The computer uses the default gateway of the router interface it is connected to. A ping to the default gateway repplies positively. A ping to the second interface to the same router goes successful but a ping to the first interface of the second router gives the "request time out" respond and a ping to the second interface of the second router gives the "destination host unreachable" respond.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working off a three-year old HP notebook, dv-2000 series, running Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit.I suddenly lost wireless connectivity. I can still see wireless networks available - unsecured and secured, five-bar signals - but trying to connect to them fails. This is not a matter of connecting to the network but not having internet access, but rather being completely unable to establish any connection.Troubleshooter says Windows is unable to determine anything. It says check the access point, but I cannot connect to any network - home, starbucks, etc. I have reinstalled both network drivers (ethernet and wireless adapter).I have plugged into a wired connection and updated Windows to the most recent set of updates.I've obviously reset the machine, toggled the wireless, etc.I've reset the TCP/IP stack.I've checked that the WLAN service is running, as well as the DNS and DHCP client services. ipconfig says the wireless adapter has DHCP and Autoconfiguration enabled. Device manager says everything is working fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't had internet in a couple of months until recently when I got cable broadband and a TP-Link wireless router. The setup works fine with a ADSL cable but I can't get my laptop to connect to any wireless networks including my new router. If I run a windows troubleshooting diagnostic it says I have no preferred networks. If I go to "manage wireless networks" the box is empty and if I click "add" NOTHING happens. I can see my wireless networks in the networks box on the taskbar but when I click on them nothing happens (secured or unsecured) I'm pretty sure the problem is not with the router but maybe with the adapter or the pc itself. Others can connect to the wireless network
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the wireless switch turned on and the wireless router is set up correctly - I know the network name, encryption & password. The same setup has worked fine before, but now the laptop isn't letting me connect to it, or even try to connect to it.The internet works perfectly if I connect the ethernet cable directly; and I can bring up the wireless router's settings with 192.168.1.1; but the internet doesn't work when I remove the cable. I looked on google to try and find the method of bringing up the available networks, but it won't work for me. When I hover the cursor over the icon on the taskbar, it says "not connected - connections are available", but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried moving the cursor to the bottom-right corner of the screen, clicking on Settings, and clicking on the network icon with "Available" written underneath it, but again nothing happens.
I've also tried this:
-right-clicked network icon on taskbar, opened Network and Sharing Center
-clicked Set Up a Connection or Network
-clicked Connect to the Internet - nothing happens and the window crashes, I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE->task manager->restart Windows Explorer
-clicked Manually Connect to a Wireless Network - I enter the details of the wireless network, then it says that the network already exists; I choose to Use the existing network, open the "connect to a network" dialog so I can connect, but then nothing happens. It doesn't crash this time though.
I have a question regarding the network setup. I have 3 pieces of network hardware and a fast dsl connection. The hardware is:
- DSL Modem from my provider with static IP connection (CISCO - don't know the symbol)
- DSL Router (edimax ar-7084a)
- Switch (Hewlett-Packard JD871A)
Now the task is to create a LAN network so all my computers can talk together and have a internet connection shared between them. When I connect Modem to Router and then 4 CPUs to router, it is working fine. The problem is that the router has only 4 ports and that it is 100Mbit slow. I would like to use the HP switch for the LAN setup (1Gbit) and then connect the switch to router and router to modem. But it doesn't work I cannot establish internet connection this way. I'm setting all the settings in my router but it doesn't work as it was in simple setup modem->router->cpu. when I add switch to this, the setup is going berserk.Problem is that I would like to create a LAN only between computers using switch. I have other computers that I want to conect to the router directly and don't see the computers using switch.
I want to connect switch to a router.tell me the connection of ports.
