2 Nics On Same Subnet Cannot Connect To Different Networks
Mar 22, 2013
I have 2 nics in my win7 system, NIC 1 connect to leased line and NIC2 is connected to organization LAN for internet. Both the ip add are in same subnet. when both the cables are plugged in to nics, leased line link connected to nic1 goes down. It wouldn't come up untill the cable from nic 2 is plugged out.Basically i wish to be connected to both the networks simultaneously.

I have an issue with some traffic routing:
Machine A | Machine B (Win 2008 R2) | Machine C
Start: 192.168.5.9 > 192.168.5.5 (NIC 1) - 10.14.137.130 (NIC 2) > 10.14.137.128So the question is how do i get traffic from Machine A to Machine C. I've tried various 'Route ADD' cmds but no luck so far. So was hoping someone out there could shed some light for me?Machine B is a AD/DNS and can talk to the entire 10.14.137.x range but has no forwarders set up in DNS. And does not act as a AD/DNS server for the 10.14.137.x range. It fills these roles only for the 192.1668.5.x range.

Two networks. NetA: IP subnetID 10.101.x.x subnet 255.255.0.0. Devices have static-assigned IP's. Only DHCP runs on wireless AP for wireless client connection. IP addressing scheme set by hardware vendor, so not under my control. NetB: IP subnet 10.x.x.x subnet 255.0.0.0. Campus LAN and also not under my control. DHCP supplied addressing. how to get NetA devices to route to NetB?I would like to be able to provide Internet access (via NetB)to NetA devices.

I have a networked PC with 2 NICs.One is connected to our business network, with a static IP address (10.38.75.xx) the other NIC (10.42.10.xx) is connected to a Controller machine. The business side of things works fine - network access & internet access works well. The intent with this PC is for a vendor to be able to RDP it (which he can) then open a browser and use the Controller's IP address (10.42.10.33) to access and control the connected machine.I am an administrator - logged in as myself, and trying to browse to this IP address, the page tries to load forever. It never times out or displays an error - just continues trying to load.At first, the vendor that was accessing this machine, when logged in as himself, COULD get the web page to open up at that IP - but he wasn't authorized to install an activeX program that needed to be installed. Logged in as myself, I couldn't get to the point where it asked to install the program.
Because I couldn't figure out how to fix this, I just set him as a local administrator as a short term fix - now he can't access the web page either. I've tried setting him back (removing his adminstrator privileges) - but now neither of us are able to access this page.

I need to make some changes on our network. We currently have two sites 150 miles apart we join both by way of fiber and on each side we have Cisco 3750 stack switches, configure trunking for all V lans on one port in site one then through the the long haul fiber to site two with site one using 10.1.1.30 and site two using 10.1.1.40 as their default gateway, with static routing all V lan sub nets to the other sites default gateway life is good.
My question - seeing how we have sites using the same sub net 10.1.1.x to trunk all data to each site through switches; we need to now change the network and add each site to the MPLS network, site one switch 1 IP address 10.1.1.30 going to MPLS router one with FA0/0/0 using IP 10.1.1.31, site two having switch 1 IP address 10.1.1.40 going to MPLS router one with FA0/0/0 using 10.1.1.41. I need to know will this work.
We have the same sub net in each site 10.1.1.x to the MPLS routers then the external router interface connecting each site to local switches, will this cause any problems by using the same local sub net for each site?

I have a PC on a crowded network that cannot handle much more bandwidth usage.I am now going to have a tons of transferring to do offsite so I added a second internet line just to deal with the influx of file transfers.I tried a dual WAN setup on my router and the performance was not improved (if it was nobody noticed it) so I said forget that idea, I only need to do these massive transfers from 1 PC so I will just add a second NIC to the machine so that the 1st NIC can maintain local network functionality and the 2nd NIC will be just for internet traffic (sending files up/down to offsite location) Essentially I just need NIC1 for handling local network, connecting to exchange etc. and NIC2 to handle files transfes to offsite location through seconday internet line.So now I have a desktop PC with two NICs. One of them built into the board, the other a pci add on nic. they are both 10/100
On nic1, there is a connection to my network 200.200.1.X which is the internal network for Exchange, local files transfers etc. This is the network i have always had connected and I have no problem connecting to my exchange server etc. (my server is providing dns/dhcp/wins/AD/MSE for the entire network)so I installed a secondary NIC and a secondary network line to the NIC2 on the machine.I set it up with an IP, a SN, a gateway and a DNSI removed the gateway from the 1st NIC.SO then I tried adding a gateway to BOTH of the NICs..This allows me to do EVERYTHING I want, however when i go to whatismyip.com and get a result, the IP it is giving me is NOT either of my static IPs (each network has a seperate internet line with a static IP). Not sure where this IP is coming from, but if i tracert google.com it says I am going out through the primary adaptor. The new IP from whatismyip.com makes no sense to me as it is not either of my static IPs, however it is very close.Would this be a situation where my ISP see's I have 2 gateways defined so it generates a 3rd external IP for some reason? Never heard of this but i am no guru.essentially I just need NIC1 for handling local network, connecting to exchange etc. and NIC2 to handle files transfers to offsite location through seconday internet line.

I'm trying to connect two routers and create a subnet but failing due to a little knowledge but no real understanding! I've read the ultimate setup thread loads of times but can't get my setup to work.
Here's the setup I'm trying to build:
Internet -> Master ADSL modem/router (No NAT, no DHCP) -> Slave cable router (NAT, DHCP)
I want to connect 3 Xboxes to the master router with external IPs to avoid the whole "moderate/strict" NAT nightmare. Then I'll connect everything else (PCs, Macs, wireless devices etc) to the Slave router which will assign IP addresses and do the NAT thing. Both routers are Netgear N150s (master is ADSL, slave is Cable).
Here's what I've tried so far:
Master router:
All IP addresses supplied by ISP
Internet IP: xxx.68.160.143
DNS: xxx.xxx.3.xxx and xxx.xxx.6.xxx
Router IP: xxx.68.160.142
[Code].....

I understand ip addressing and what a subnet is.But why is it sometimes I connect two things together,it always requires a subnet mask, and other times no? For example when I try to connect two computers together, it requires both IP and subnet mask. But if I use FTP software all it ask for is IP.Same thing when connecting to a website through their ip, doesn't require subnet.

I tried to update our production switch over the weekend with a newer unmanaged Gigabit switch. Everything was fine after the change and the network had a noticeable change in speed. But when I came back in on Monday the Internet was down. So I tried trouble shooting the switch to see if there was a loop or something like that and put it into managed mode so I could look at the config page and take advantage of the STP function. When trying to get to the config page I entered the default IP into my browser and a logon appeared so I tried to login and it failed then I noticed that the title of the browser tab said RVS4000. So out of curiosity I entered the creds for the router and lo and behold it let me in to the router. The router has a static IP and is using a different subnet then the default IP of 192.168.2.1 that the switch has. I have put the old switch back and removed the new one from production but can still get to the router with either IP, it's static address and the 2.1 address.

What I am trying to do is I have one switch with say a 10.1.9.1 sub-net I need to have one of the ports to be trucked with two vlans one for DSL and the other for a local connection with the sub-net of 10.1.5.1 both of the sub-nets are configured in the core as 9 and 5 so I have port 0 set up as a trunk and it is set up as ge-0/0/0.0 vlan_5, vlan_192 on the 10.1.9.1 subnet switch. The DSL is working but the local is not pulling a 10.1.5.1 IP and has no connectivity. Everything looks as if it is configured correctly but still the DSl is working but not the Local connection.

I have a quick question to ask regarding bridging two NIC/LAN ports on my home server to two LAN ports on a single gigabit router. Is this possible? Will the router have any trouble determining IP addresses? If so, is a certain router required for this to work that I am unaware of? I'm run a google search for any info on this subject but this particular question doesn't seem to have been asked that I'm able to find.
I'm essentially looking to increase any bandwidth throughput if possible for content streaming on my home network.

I want to route traffic from nic 2(192.168.2.1) to nic 1(192.168.1.1). In lame terms route the traffic from 192.168.2.10(gateway 192.168.2.1) to 192.168.135(192.168.1.1). I know how to use the route command in CMD. So how would I get the traffic from 192.168.2.10 to 192.168.1.135? I'm just not sure how I would do that with the route command. I've tried
Code:
route -p add 192.168.1.135 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1 IF 12
Also tried like 5 different ways The IF 12 is my NIC 2.

I just turned on the ftp service and it works fine in the lan side but cant reach it from the ISP side. I use a dynamic dns host which is monitoring my internet ip and is correct.

Ok so even though this isn't really needed, it's for a 10 user office I have two tower servers with dual nics but not the same brand (just bought a cheapy gigabit startech) to go with intel on board nic. Also my switch is also gigabit which is a trendnet teg-s24dg which does not support link aggregration.
But since I have two nics and both servers are running win2008 enterprise I want to use the other nics for throughput if possible. So to give an idea servers are doing DC/AD and fileserver DFS rep. If I turn one off the other picks up and network still functions (there is a small lag since dns has to pick up that other is not responding. So far the best I can think I can do with the extra nic is add ip's to second nics and add to dns and round robin or install NLB role to for two server cluster.
I can't really team them since they are two different brands, so what would you do or do you suggest I can do with them. Also I have a T1 and dsl going into a dual wan firewall dsl is not being used for anything. (might use it for a seperate wifi network if people need it.

I know enough to be dangerous when it comes to networking, but this one has me baffled. I'm running a win 7 pc with dual nics.
I need to have 1 nic connected to a vpn and the other to be restricted to intranet access only. I can't for the life of me figure out how to accomplish this.
Once I connect 1 nic to the VPN i'm no longer visible to my lan, even if the 2nd nic is connected.

NIC 1 is connected to my dsl modem and NIC 2 is connected to a main switch and further to more. But now i want to setup a wifi network for laptop users. I have enabled ICS on NIC 1 and NIC 2 has acquired it ip automatically (192.168.0.1) so the gateway for my desktop users is (192.168.0.1). But i want to use a new gateway. For this i have installed NIC 3 but it is not acquiring the ip automatically. My Proxy server configuration is: MS Server 2003 ENT edition.

Following is my Hardware
Router: 3Com OfficeConnect ADSL Wireless 11G firewall
Laptop: Lenovo 3000 N200 - Vista
Built in NIC: Intel PRO/Wireless 3945BG
USB NIC: Linksys Compact Wireless G
I am trying to connect my Laptop to Media Player HDD connected via Ethernet to Router. I want to channel traffic to/fro HDD separately from that of internet to/fro laptop (to make it faster - my assumption)
I have successfully done this by using the router as a switch when I had a cable modem. But now I have an ADSL connection to internet and my internet gets kicked off while I connect these using VLAN.
What I want is best possible configuration of my hardware to access internet and play/transfer media files on my laptop

I use the fibre internet for almost all internet activities since the speed is fast. However, when I do school's stuff, I need to VNC to my lab's server. Hence I need to connect to school internet point. External IP cannot directly connects to my school's server. Therefore, I would need to force Windows (or VNC) to use the connection of the Wireless Ethernet card when I VNC to my lab's server. But I want to use my fibre for all other internet activities.

I'm trying to setup a server with two nics, one of which is connected to the network, and the other connected to a NAS via crossover. I've never done anything with subnetting, but I was thinking I could just set the main nic to 192.168.10.20 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and the other to 192.168.10.250 with a subnet of 255.255.255.240 and the nas nic set to 192.168.10.251
Am I thinking through this right, or is there a better way to do this?

This has me baffled: since the weekend I've been unable to connect to certain networks. Previously I could connect to any available network as normal, but all of a sudden I can't get onto certain network connections despite the fact they are available and at full signal strength. Some connections are fine, others are not.Something odd happens when I unsuccessfully try to connect: a window pops up but in the blink of an eye disappears again before I have time to register whether it's an error message or what.I've checked for Window updates and am fully updated, I've run my virus scan (Microsoft Security Essentials), and I've performed Windows Network Diagnosis to no avail.otel overseas and am now feeling the problem as I can't get onto the hotel's free wifi and am having to use my iPhone as a personal hotspot which is costing me a bomb

Recently, I upgraded my PC into basically a completely new machine. Because the harddrive that I planned on using was IDE, and my IDE-Sata adapters weren't being recognized on BIO, I used a fresh sata harddrive and a copy of Windows XP Professional.
It booted fine, all parts recognized, only now I cant connect to any LAN networks. I only get the option for VGN, Broadband and Dial-up networking. Using a laptop at the moment
I've tried two different usb adapters, and connecting the LAN cable directly into the PC. The cable works on another desktop in the house, but my PC wouldnt let me make the LAN network.

Windows tells me there are none available, but i'm using my laptop right next to my pc and there should be at least 5 connections including mine..
I DO HAVE a wireless card in there... but is there something you need to do to like activate it / turn it on? I can see the card listed in device manager.. it says it is working properly. Just can't connect to anything!
All i wanted to do was do some browsing on my new pc but looks like I will have to wait.

I purchased a network storage device and would like every one i the house to be able to access it.I have attached a small diagram on how everything is connected. The modem given to me by my ISP has only 2 lan ports i can use(lan1 and Lan2)This modem is configure with the IP range 192.168.2.XXXOn this i have connected a netgear router and have configured it with the internal network IP range 192.168.1.XXXOriginal i had ALL PC's and devices connected to this router and everythign worked fine, but when using download software i.e. P2P the speeds would cause the router to crash and i had to go and power restart it to work. Becuase of this i connected MY PC directly to my ISP's modem so i dont keep crashing the router.
This all works fine, but i recently purchased a network storage drive that i would like every one to have access in the house.Becuase the Storage drive and my PC are on the IP range 192.168.2.xxx and everything connected to the router is on the IP range 192.168.1.xxx how can i give everyone access to the storage drive ??I know if i reconnect my PC and drive back on the netgear router it will work but i cant do that becuase of the location and becuase of the original issue of when downloading on my PC it would block the router.
