DNS Redirect To Dedicated Connection?

I currently have CenturyLink (Qwest) DSL (12Mbps/896Kbps) and Comcast Cable (12Mbps/2Mbps) going into a Cisco RV08. I redirected all DNS traffic to the DSL line as an experiment with no decrease in web browsing speed. e are rural and speeds fluctuate considerably during the day. It seems like it's more of a response issue than a bandwidth issue. I would like to order a 2Mbps dedicated line from Comcast to use for DNS and VOIP traffic only, the DNS resolution times should be faster on that connection. There would be several tenants in this building using it for that purpose. The secondary purpose of this line would be for backup internet connectivity

I have been doing network and computer work for a small public library which will soon be needing to change internet providers. Our planned route will be to have a fiber connection directly from our local ISP, but we need to figure out the best network hardware to accommodate this network connection.We currently have two HP 1810-24G switches connected to a Sonicwall TZ100 firewall as the primary router. The firewall/router connects to the internet with Cat6 connected to a fiber optic media converter. The media converter is on lease from the current internet provider so it will be gone.Our new ISP has said that they can provide a fiber connection in our building to an SFP port termination, which is their recommendation. Ideally, this would be an SFP port in a router or firewall. However, there seems to be very few options for routers with SFP and they're all incredibly expensive compared to a network switch with SFP. While I imagine we could just terminate the fiber optic connection into a cheaper switch with SFP and connect to that with the firewall, our network is further complicated in that we have a CISCO LifeSize video conferencing system which ideally runs best without running directly through the firewall, which can cause some lag and glitches in the signal it seems. I don't believe it's possible to have the router WAN interface connect through to the ISP with a static IP and PPPoE sign on as well as another network devices using the PPPoE and a separate static IP address, am I correct?Have I just over-complicated this network issue, and everything should just be run behind the existing firewall, or should I be able to find a different firewall/router or switch that can connect with SFP to the ISP?

I have an ASA 5510 with a second internet connection on its way. I would like to have one internet connection dedicated to my Site-to-Site VPN traffic and the other left to handle public internet traffic. I know I can do this with a static route but I noticed today the "tunneled" option. How exactly does the tunneled option work and would it work better for my specific situation?

We have a point to point connection going from a regional office to the main office this is provided by a Service Provider. In our office we have an ISP and what we need to prevent from happening is that if the internet drops from the ISP we could somehow re-direct the internet traffic through this point to point connection and make it so that our Internet connection is pulled from the main office. is it just a matter of re-configuring?

How do I open all the ports for ALL of the ips on my dedicated server. I opened all the ports for the main ip that I RDP (Terminal Connection) into, but I can't seem to open the ports for the other ips that I got from my dedicated server provider.

I have an old computer that is currently running XP at 2.1GHz Athlon AMD with 1.5 DDR RAM, would I be able to turn it into a dedicated server? More importantly, should I? all I have is a small home network running a couple desktops and a printer off one and connected by a wireless router to the internet, would it make a difference at all in processing speed or connectivity on any of them?

In my restaurant, we currently have a password protected wifi network for customers and staff. The load is typically light, so it's worked fine. Now, we're putting in a new cloud-based point of sales system, which effectively means that I need a totally uninterrupted, high quality wireless signal running to the POS terminal (in this case, an iPad). If the terminal is sharing that connection with 15 customers Facebooking on their iPhones, I imagine we'll have some signal issues. I'd rather not install a second network dedicated to the POS terminal. Are there any other possible solutions, i.e. a way to give priority to the terminal over other connections? A way to "split" the existing network so only a portion of it is available to customers?
FYI, current network speed is 20/mbs 2/mbs, and the POS terminal requires a minimum of 7/2 mbs.

this company uses Vyatta firewalls, which are dedicated boxes. So I was sent home with a Dell PowerConnect 5448 (a 48 port switch) with the project of getting a similar setup going with the computers i have at home. I have the switch set up, everything's on VLAN1, management IP is 192.168.2. 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway is 192.18.2.254, and the switch is properly sharing the my internet connection between three computers. That part was easy. So now, one of them is going to be either reformatted and set up with Vyatta, or I'm going to virtualize it. Either way, I need to route all the traffic through that firewall box before it goes to anything else on the switch so I can have a functional firewall.

I'm trying to setup a server with two nics, one of which is connected to the network, and the other connected to a NAS via crossover. I've never done anything with subnetting, but I was thinking I could just set the main nic to 192.168.10.20 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 and the other to 192.168.10.250 with a subnet of 255.255.255.240 and the nas nic set to 192.168.10.251
Am I thinking through this right, or is there a better way to do this?

I installed a new SA540 and configured some NAT rules for my Exchange server. Everything worked fine untill I did a firmware upgrade.Now the NAT rules won't work on my dedicated WAN.On the Optional WAN (load balancing) the NAT rules work fine.

We have a L3 gig link between 2 locations (6513 <-->4507). Each location got its own addressing scheme and vlan interfaces on the edge switches.For our new exchange servers, I received a requirement on having the possibility of single vlan at both locatons. so that the all the replicaton traffic between both location servers (Prod/DR). Ex: Create a new vlan at 6500 site with an addressing scheme 192.168.100.x and having the same addressing scheme vlan stretched over the L3 link to 4500. The link is not MPLS. I read few posts in the forum and seems it is possible if we have MPLS. OSPF is the routing protocol.

Recently moved into the hardware firewall space and have a ASA 5510. Having some issues trying to get traffic through the box to my 4 dedicated servers. all the servers have static IP's and are connected to a private switch into one of the ethernet ports on the firewall(0/2). Public internet connection into another(0/0). 1 of my servers has a connection to the management port, and the public switch, and this is the one im trying to do the configuration on.
Im unsure what to set the IP address of my "outside" interface as. need to have RDP,FTP, HTTP traffic going to each of the 4 servers independently, pretty sure i can get the rules in place to allow this, but cant seem to get any traffic to go through the firewall to any of the other 3 servers.

I'm trying to figure out why recipients of emails from my company show that the mail is coming from our dedicated wan ip instead of the ip alias setup thru the dedicated wan.The external ip address for the sa540, wan1 (no optional interface), is 82.134.79.122.The ip alias is 62.97.213.156 mail. unitec hsubsea. com resolves to 62.97.213.156 for external dns yet it is reporting as the 82.134.79.122 for some recipients.The mail server was never setup with the 82.134.79.122 ip so i don't think this is a dns cache issue.What issue in the SA540 would cause the system to show as mail coming from 82.134.79.122 instead of the ip alias 62.97.213.156?

We have purchased Comcast fiber EDI services. They run a fiber to our office and connect to a Ciena 3930 switch. The speed we have is 30 down and use for Internet. Comcast provide a /30 and /29 address. Do I need an additional router to route /30 to /29? I only have a PIX firewall.

i like to configure two ports in dedicated mode (eth4/1 + eth4/2).the ports are on a modultype "N7K-F132XP-15" (32x10GE)all ports are in one vdc membership (default configuration)
ive tried this for port eth 4/1:

What we would like to do it use BOTH internet connections: (1) will be dedicated to our VPN connection, (1) will be handling all our internet traffic. How can we get this setup? i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

What the most cost and time effective way to have an ip request return with another ip address from outside the WAN of the router.Specifically want to have an application request for example 192.168.1.121 and have 173.194.43.41 respond and communicate with the application instead. To make it a bit more interesting I'd like actually to set a table or config file to point to a domain name (url) which gets resolved as an ip address. (Port independent)To get a better understanding:one example might be typing in 192.168.1.121 in a browser and googles search engine comes up on the browser.another example might be typing in 192.168.1.121 in an ftp client and it hooks to an ftp server on the other side of the world which resolves to [URL]. I was looking at openwrt and tomato a little but I don't think I have such a complete grasp on how to do it in general. Being that it seems they are 2 different layers of the network model, I was told it can't be done but I don't know if I can believe that yet. Either by third party software or reprogramming the router or adding another device to the network.

I wonder if is posible to have (again) the usual redirect after log in. On DIR-635, DIR-855 after log in you get redirect to the STATUS if WAN connection si functional, else you get SETUP. Now, on DIR-825 even if WAN is active/functional the redirect is to SETUP page.

It's been awhile since work has thrown me a curve ball so I was about due. We've got a client that wants us to log into their secure portal, this is normally not a issue. The link they sent us to their 'portal' apparently takes us to the wrong page. Their solution to this is for us to create a DNS entry to resolve that URL to a specific IP address. We don't currently have a DNS server setup in house so I assumed this would be something done on the Sonicwall.
I asked them why I couldn't just go to the IP address instead of the URL anyway and they said it wouldn't work. Is this something that I can maybe create a NAT Policy for and have it redirect traffic to there? I know the SonicWall has a DNS tab but I've never touched it and I'm not sure what I would need to put in there anyway.

So stupid old copy machine in office only recognizes an IP address to send scans to.Detail:We've had an old slow XP box hooked up on the network as that IP address and it works fine... scan on copy machine and it sends it to a folder on that desktop. Everyone gets scans from that folder from a mapped drive on their esire:Want to nix the XP box and put a share folder on my WinServer2003 box (which I already set up and set permissions on).n I set on my network (and how) for IP (192.168.1.199) to go to that share folder now instead of a PC with that IP#?

I want to make it so if a user tries to use a different DNS server the request will be redirected to the one they should be using.I thought this might work but the ASA doesn't do PB routing
