View 14 RepliesI just formatted my hard drive and installed Windows XP from scratch. I have a Dimension E310. When I looked at the Device driver menu I saw that I didn't have an Ethernet Driver installed. I have looked all over Dells site for the correct one but, can't seem to find it on the list for my Service Tag model. Possibly I don't recognize the drivers terminology as far as the list is concerned?
I have the original Dell Resource instalation disks with various drivers on them but, I can't seem to work out how to use them.
I've recently been given a new modem from Virgin which is connected by a cat5 cable, however, my PC doesn't find it at all.
There doesn't seem to be a driver on the PC for it, although this may be dowon to the PC having a slight "accident" a few months ago which meant we had to reinstall XP. I don't have the utiliites disc, this wasn't a problem previously as we were able to connect our PC up via USB to the modem.
I have an old PC currently connected to the Internet trying to download the drivers from Dell's support section & tranferring these but this isn't working either.
I had to totally reinstall windows Me and all software. Now I cant connect to the internet. I can't find a device driver for the ethernet card. There are 2 devices the manager is not recognizing PCI communication device and PCI Ethernet controller.I don't seem to be able to find an exact type for either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy (home desktop Dell Dimension E310) other computer had a virus that flatlined the machine. I reinstalled the operating system from the discs provided by DELL. Now, I can't connect to my DSL. The browser wont see the http:/192.168.0.1 ActionTec router. It's plugged directly into the computer via ethernet cable. this laptop is receiving signal from the wireless portion of that router, so there has to be a signal to the computer (it was working earlier this morning prior to DELL disc reinstall).
View 10 Replies View RelatedI reinstalled windows xp (reformatted c). Installed the drivers in this order: Controller, Video, Audio, Network, modem. I selected the drivers that had the check beside them on the driver disk. Now, in the device manager, there is a yellow question mark beside the ethernet card and I can't connect to my broadband connection. Wire is attached... checked that twice. I have connectivity through other computers, so internet is working in the house.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive crashed. I have finished installing everything on a new drive that I have from my Dell installation CDs. However, in the Device manager, the Ethernet Contoller shows the the drivers are not installed. I can't seem to find them anywhere on the Dell web site.
when I pull the cover off of the computer - the outside of the Ethernet connection says "418D-J51 10/100 BT"
I did a fresh install of Windows XP recently on my Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm having trouble getting on the internet. In the Device manager it has the '?' next to Ethernet Controller. I've read the other articles on this site but nothing has worked as of yet.I did another fresh install of XP (2nd time) and then started with the Chipset for Intel, still nothing.
The order for drivers installation says to install the DSS utility first, but I can't seem to find it in the Drivers & Downloads section for my Dimension 4550.
I am trying to connect my Dell Dimension E310 to WiFi using my Sprint Sierra 589 USB adapter but I am not able to get through.i have installed Sprint S/w for connecting WiFi using the USB adapter. After I connect USB adapter, it shows Wireless connection icon in right bottom but when I right click to wireless network connection in Network connections - it gives me on 2 options - General & Advanced. I don't see Wireless Network tab.If connect the Sprint card to my laptop & try to connect the laptopn, it works. The internet on laptop get connected using Sprint Card instead of my laptop existing card which indicates the Sprint card is working. how to make above successful OR I need to purchanse new WiFi adapter which can connect to Dell E310 (after googling some adapters, found few WiFi adapters which work on XP)

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed a fresh Windows XP Pro on my Optiplex gx270 last week. Everything was fine but now I cannot get an internet connection. I followed all the steps on the dell support web site for the windows reinstall, putting all the drivers on in the correct order, all from my original resource CD. Then downloaded the new recommended driver for my service tag from the dell site, and still no ethernet controller driver is found (a yellow question mark with an exclamation mark on top in windows device manager). Tried a couple of times with the dell online chat, but was disconnected right away. Then spent another 1+ hour on the phone with dell tech support this morning. After uninstalling and reinstalling the same drivers I had previously installed, they apparently had no other suggestions and disconnected me. So I'm left with what was a pretty decent machine that is incapable of connecting to the internet.

I have downloaded what I think are the approprite files but get the message that the unzipped file is part of a series of disks and I need to insert the last of this series of disks. I ain't got no stinking disks!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an older Dell Desktop (Dimension E310) with Windows XP. I haven't turned it on in a year or so. Last time I used it I had a PCI Adapter for wireless and it worked fine.
Since then we've moved and are relying on a wireless router and I'm now trying to reconnect it, but it no longer has the little wireless icon. It has the Intel PROset for wired connections (from when I first bought it), and I ran the diagnostic on it, and everything passed except for the "link test." What do I do now?
I tried to do a favor for a friend. He has this terrible Dimension 4700c running XP.I went to the dell site and found the Intel driver and also foudn the chipset. The Ethernet Controller still has yellow question mark. I stried to pint the ? to the Unzipped file under C://dell/drivers etc...!

It too is missing the network controller, I can access web through wireless usb but not though cable or wireless. I have the disc but I can't install from it as I get message saying it is outdated. Tried Intel but the download ends prematurely and so doesnt work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBecause of a virus, I recently had to reinstall Windows 7 on my laptop. Upon restarting, I found out that I cannot connect to the Internet using a wired connection (Ethernet cable). I tried going in the Device manager to try and troubleshoot the Network Adapters, but the only object in that category was "Intel (R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN". In a lower category, "Other Devices", I see two "Base System Device", one "Unknown Device" and one "Ethernet Controller", all of them with little yellow exclamation marks on the icon. I guessed the problem was the Ethernet Controller, so I tried "Update Driver...". It told me that it could not find a driver for my device.
