Dell :: Inspiron 17R SE 7720 - Network Cable Unplugged - But It's Not
Apr 14, 2013
I have an Inspiron 17R SE 7720 that is about a half-year old. This problem has been occurring for as long as I can recall. I'm running Windows 8, but this problem was identical with Windows 7.
My Ethernet adapter, a Realtek 10/100, works on boot-up. At some random point it stops working. It could be days later, it could be after waking up, it could be within an hour of a boot without sleep. "Network Connections" shows the adapter as enabled but unplugged. I can correct the problem by disabling the adapter and then re-enabling it, but that only works maybe a couple of times in a row. In the latest instance (moments ago), I right-clicked the adapter to disable it, and then right-clicked to enable it again. Normally the adapter would then show the adapter as enabled and the cable connected. When things really go wrong, a window pops up that first says "Enabling..." and then "Enabled", but it is still grayed out and not enabled. The only solution I have is to reboot the machine.

I just had recently replaced my Power Jack which had the ethernet port with it. Ever since I replaced it my Local Network Connection would give me an error (Network Cable Unplugged).

I bought a Dell Inspiron17R SE 7720 with an Intel Wireless 2230 card. I was told I could connect a Netgear Push2TV adapter that would allow me to connect to my TV wirelessly. When I went to connect it, I was able to get the TV to the point of asking me to Launch my Intel Wireless Display. I go to my programs but cannot find anything that mentions Wi-Di. I am not very tech savvy, so I don't know what to do. Is there a driver I can download? Am I missing something on my computer programs? Should I use another method and send the part back to Dell?

I bought my first Dell laptop (Inspiron 7720) and I can't make my bluetooth audiosystem (Logitech Mini Boombox) to work. I've got positive experience on Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi2550 and on HP Compaq 6530b, where I had to just download another drivers for widdcomm bt adapter. I tried to do this trick o this computer, but I get only three bluetooth peripheral devices, which I can't install, because there is no driver for them. What shoud I do to make audio transfer through A2DP to work?Bluetooth drivers are working, I am able to pair the device. Problem is in instalation of all services.

I have a Wi-Fi connection problem on my Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230. Every time after I log in to Windows I can’t use internet for about 5 to 15 minutes. After that time everything seems almost OK. During this time there’s yellow exclamation mark on my connection icon (saying that there’s no internet connection) just for a few seconds, than it dissapears and apparently internet connection is OK (signal strength is very good the whole time), but during this 5-15 minutes downtime I can’t use internet. Websites by domains don’t respond, neither pings do, but when I ping eg. google.com by its IP it responds quickly, so I thought it’s a DNS issue.Connection settings are automatic. DNS servers (resolved automatically) of my cable ISP respond OK when I ping them during the downtime. So just to check, I’ve set manually DNS servers to Google public DNS servers (both IPv4 and IPv6). It didn’t work.
I don’t use antivirus software other than Windows Defender. The issue occurs with and without firewall. I have the most recent both BIOS (A11) and Wi-Fi drivers (15.3.1.2 downloaded from Intel site). My system: Windows 7 Home Premium PL 64bit. I keep the system updated with Windows Updates. The issue occurs when Windows manages my connection and also when I have Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi software installed.I don’t allow Window to turn off the WiFi card (device’s energy settings). I’ve set Roaming Aggressiveness to 5. Highest and Ad Hoc Channel 802.11 b/g to 11 (I’ve seen such a piece of advice somewhere). Maybe it’s something with compatibility with the router, by the issue doesn’t occur of any other device in my network (Android phones, Kindle, iPad). I’ve got Cisco EPC3925 from my cable ISP. They didn’t give me the password, so for now I can’t change its settings.
Its “about” page reads:Cisco EPC3925 EuroDocsis 3.0 2-PORT Voice Gateway Model: Cisco EPC3925Vendor: CiscoHardware Revision: 1.0Bootloader Revision: 2.3.0_R1Current Software Revision: epc3925-E15-13-v302r125554-120725cFirmware Name: epc3925-E15-13-v302r125554-120725c.binFirmware Build Time: Jul 31 12:51:23 2012Cable Modem Status:OperationalWireless Network: EnableCable Modem State:DOCSIS Downstream Scanning: CompletedDOCSIS Ranging: CompletedDOCSIS DHCP: CompletedDOCSIS TFTP:CompletedDOCSIS Data Reg Complete: CompletedDOCSIS Privacy: DisabledDownstream Channels: Power Level: Signal to Noise Ratio:Channel 1: 5.9 dBmV 42.7 dBChannel 2: 6.7 dBmV 42.3 dBChannel 3: 6.4 dBmV 42.5 dBChannel 4: 6.2 dBmV 42.5 dBChannel 5: 6.0 dBmV 42.0 dBChannel 6: 5.5 dBmV 42.5 dBChannel 7: 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dBChannel 8: 0.0 dBmV 0.0 dBUpstream Channels Power Level:Channel 1: 52.5 dBmVChannel 2: 0.0 dBmVChannel 3: 0.0 dBmVChannel 4: 0.0 dBmV

I am running an ethernet cord from my xbox 360 to my Acer Aspire TimelineX 3820TG-3022 Laptop Computer. I am attempting to run ICS in order to share the connection to my xbox. The problem comes when I attempt to plug in my ethernet cord to the computer, and nothing happens.
Here is a screenshot of what the port says / my network adapter setup: 33a7c93a4c607756f9219a95a7207a7d.png It's a Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet
I have tried sharing the connection to my xbox via another laptop, and it has worked. Power saving mode is disabled in the port in the device manager, and I have no clue what is going on.

I plug the Lenovo in to the Ethernet cable in my office, get link & data transfer lights, connect to the internet, everything works.Bring it out to different office (it's replacing an old XP machine, which connects on the cable I'm about to mention)Plug it in to ethernet, no lights, Network Cable is Unplugged.Plug cable back into old XP machine. It connects.
Bring out a Win7 Home Premium SP1 laptop. It connects.Plug back into Idea center, nothing. Drag idea centre back into my office. It works again. The Idea centre is new, so it's never worked on this area before. Also, I have 3, and they're behaving identically. ALSO, sometimes when I plug in the Ethernet cable the green and yellow indicator lights will blink once at me, and then never again.
The cable's good, works with 2 other machines. The port/NIC card is good, works in my office, the only difference between the two locations is that I have an extra router in my office that I don't have in the office the Lenovo is going in, so it MUST be something in the settings, but I can't tell what's different between the machines that work and the Lenovo.

So here's a fresh spin (and not in a good way) on the seemingly common port-flapping issue, where a windows vista/7 machine's ethernet port vacillates between "enabling, identifying, network cable unplugged." I've tried the fixes I've seen around, like forcing the speed to 10 or 100Mb duplex, etc. But I think the problem goes deeper than that -or drivers or faulty NICs. Its acting like it's in the cabling. . . but not. Any advice would be welcome.Just switched from one DSL provider (Bell) to another (Teksavvy). Connected via a dry loop. When the Bell tech first set it up a year ago, he did it like this: Patch cord frome the Bell 2Wire modem/router combo to a female coupler. Female coupler attached to cat5 cable running about 25/30 feet along baseboards around the corner to another female coupler. Patch cord from female coupler to NIC in the back of my box. This worked fine. New set up with Tek savvy is as follows: DSL modem via patch cord to (wireless) D-Link router. D-link router connected to computer by same aforementioned setup. This results in the port-flapping named in the title of this message, on the hard line only. Any change in my computer was ruled out by connecting a brand new, never been connected laptop and the same terminal as my computer. Results in port flapping. The same laptop connected to the router by just the patch cord results in a perfect connection. I've tried moving the patch cords around, it doesn't change the results, so they're fine. I have no way of testing this long stretch of installed cable in the middle, with the couplers on it, since I don't have an equal length cable to try out anywhere, but I'd be surprised if that just died after a year's use exactly when I connected new hardware to the other end of it. Running windows 7 with a RealTek NIC on my box. D-Link router (will check the model later, at work at the moment), and TP-Link DSL modem. The system delivers wireless internet flawlessly.

Same problem ' network cable unplugged' even if it is physically connected. I have sony vaio pczim series with win 2000 xp home edition with a broadband (cpe adsl2+ type) connection. While everything working fine for past two years, suddenly after a thunderstorm night, I noticed the network connection failure with the message. I checked the router, cable and the same are working fine with other hp laptop. Even the vaio is running with the same router while usb port is used and even the wireless and bluetooth are fine, but network with ethernet cable connection does not.

I have a Lynksys WRT600N. I had DD-WRT on it and it was working great for about a year. One day I changed some minor settings like wireless signal type, reboot it and it's gone. I can not access it from my computer. The network adapter shows "cable unplugged". The lights on the front come on, but I can't get anywhere with it.
I've done all the resets I know how to do, including the 30/30/30 and leaving it unplugged for a few months.

I cannot connect my Dell Inspiron 1300 through the NetworkManager "wired" connection, when I try to go direct to the cable modem. It fails to connect. If I connect the cable modem to my (linksys WRT54GS) wireless router, and then connect my laptop to a wired port in the router, it connects in seconds, successfully, This has happened to me 2 other times, when I tried to connect my laptop to a client's cable modem, because my client did not have a wireless router available, in their home. My wireless works fine. This has me perplexed. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and NetworkManager Applet 0.8, I've tried some things to see what is going on, such as "ifconfig" "dhclient" as well as modifying the "Auto eth0" parameters and adding my laptop's MAC address, etc.

My new computer was delivered December 21, 2012. Imagine my surprise that I can't connect to my wireless connection unless I am less than 10 feet away from the AT& T wireless router. There are 3 computers 1 floor up and 30 feet away that can connect, so I know it isn't that the signal isn't strong enough. My Inspiron 9300 that I have had since 2005 can connect and I am using it right now. Here's my specifics.
17r SE 7720
Windows 8
1 T hard drive
8 G RAM
32 G SATA Drive
Inter N-2230
AT&T internet wireless router.
The new computer will hook up when extremely close to the router but it does lose the signal occasionally even though I am only 10 feet away.

I am running a rather old Dell Inspiron 6400 on Vista. Recently Virgin installed their latest Hub / wireless router for me and since then i cannot make a wireless connection to the internet. Before that I use to be able to connect to my old router (Linksys Wireless-G 2.4Ghz) no problem! I can connect via the ethernet cable no problems. The WiFi is on and even when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the bottom right hand corner symbol says that I am connected but I cannot load the internet and keeps giving me this message:"The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded."The Virgin Media support team ran a check and told me that my wirless adaptor is out of date and needs updating so I went on Dell Support, downloaded and installed the follwoing drivers but still no joy!
1) Broadcom diagnostic utility 440x 10/100 utility controller
2)Broadcom driver 440x 10/100 utility controller
3)Dell Driver Wireless 1390 WLAN Minicard
I have also ran a wireless WLAN utility diagnostic check through the control panel. In the Connection diagnostics, the Gateway IP Ping 'failed' and I think as result of that the Internet IP Ping, DNS IP ping and internet website domain name ping all 'skipped' but all else passed.

I have no Internet connection, and when I diagnose it, it will say, " plug an Ethernet cable in" when there is already one in. So I will attempt to restart it, and it will freeze when it says "Starting Windows" and it will do so every time. Until I pull the power cord from the back and plug it in again. Then it will log in fine, and the same problem will occur. I ran virus scans and nothing was infected. I had just recently got it rebooted also, twice in fact since this problem keeps reoccurring. (This computer has never blue screened or crashed) Every other device plugged into the router is working fine (Gaming consoles Xbox, and PS3). My friends laptop internet was fine also when we plugged it in using the Ethernet cable when he stayed at my place for days, also no problems with the wireless devices using the router.

Last night, my internet was working perfectly and I closed my computer lid before going to sleep as usual. This morning, I wake up to use my computer and the internet isn't working. I check the icon at the top and instead of showing an empty wireless meter with an X over it, it shows a computer and a cable with an X over it, which isn't normal. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532 with a built in wireless adapter and it has a button near the power button that turns the adapter on and off. I decided to turn it off, give it a while, and turn it on, but that didn't fix it, so I restarted the computer.
Now, when I try to turn it on an off, it gives the wireless symbol with a circled X over it. I have checked the device in Device Manager to see if it is working and it says it is working properly. So I uninstalled it, restarted and the computer automatically installed software like it should, but that didn't fix it. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work as well. Another thing I should mention is that I have tried rolling back the driver (which didn't fix anything), then I updated it, which also didn't fix anything.
Is there anything else I should try? The only thing Diagnostics can detect is an unplugged cable, but it's built in, so it doesn't require a cable (I've had it for >1 year and this is the first problem I've had).I downloaded Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it says no wireless adapters can be found.
