Dell :: Wireless 1540 Slow And Inconsistent
Jul 20, 2012
My company just bough me another Dell Latitude 6530 with Dell wireless 1540 half card previously I am using Dell Latitude 6520 with Intel Centrino Ultimate N 6300 without any problem
but this new Dell 6530 wifi connection is pretty slow and inconsistent -- I may got burst of high speed / performance for few seconds but pretty much all time is slow.I ran both the old 6520 and new 6530 side by side as I am transferring file and downloading new software, so I can tell for sure that this new 6530 has some issues.
1. Update the drivers for Dell wireless 1540 using this link [URL]
2. Set the power management to high performance, disable power management for the wireless card as well
3. Turn off "Allow computer to save power" in the wireless card adapter settings

Webpages sometimes load quite sluggish and when playing an online game I am experiencing much more lag. However, if I try loading the same webpages a few minutes later, they will being loading fast again. It seems as if my internet is periodically slowing down. Using speedtest.net, it shows 10Mbps download and 9Mbps upload. However, sometimes when I run speedtest again, the download portion will hang and the test won't complete. My internet provider is COX Communications. I do not think I am using a router as it is university provided internet so I connect my Ethernet directly into the wall jack.

I have a Dell XPS 17 and I am having trouble with the wi-fi. It always connects and works, but is very inconsistent. It will speed up and slow down for no apparent reason. I ran a speed test and it will go from 40mbps to 2mbps. This does not happen on any other device connected to the wireless in the house. It does not happen when the laptop is connected directly. I also purchased a USB wireless adapter and do not have any problems when connecting wirelessly that way.A new modem and router have not changed the problem.I am 100% sure it is the wireless receiver in the laptop itself.

Wireless card is Dell Wirele4ss 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card
Each time I try to launch the Dell WLAN Utility I get a message:
"Internal configuration is inconsistent. Please restart the machine to resolve the problem."
Restarting does not solve the problem.
The wireless card connects fine with Windows managing the connection. But what about the Dell Utility? What can be done so it will launch and I can let it manage the wireless connections?
I have reinstalled the Driver and utility using R115319.EXE

I have a linksys wrt54g wireless router and a few weeks ago my wireless connection started to become inconsistent, it would randomly drop service or be very slow, and now it has become very inconsistent and slow, all the while the wireless signal would be 4-5 bars.On my windows 7 desktop, often times the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark pops up over the signal strength indicator when its at 4-5 bars.I've tried changing to 2 different routers and its the same, and the problem is persistent for all computers in the house.I've connected directly via ethernet to the modem and router and service was fine. There are a few wireless networks in the area, some with quite strong signals, but I downloaded the xirrus wifi inspector and it says I'm not sharing a channel (channel 1) and though I'm ~15ft from the router, the signal is ~65dbm, which seems low and is almost equivalent to neighbor's wireless strength.

I just got a XPS 14z. The wireless signal isn't consistent and it is weaker than my old XPS 1330. It's actually painfully slow. Every thing is exactlly the same. I have my old computer next to the new computer and the wireless signal is working much better on the old computer. Pages are loading more quickly on the older model. Howothers wireless is performing on their 14z? There is nothing wrong with the router or internet connection.

In the past few weeks, my desktop's wireless connection has become impossibly slow and laggy. It takes long times to load and routinely drops or stutters in its connection, which makes online gameplay very inefficient if not impossible. Prior to this, it was running fine.My wife's netbook and my work laptop both run normally and fine off the connection. The ping rates for those computer, tested at the exact same time as my desktop, are both good while my desktop's ping and jitter are horrible. So I have the feeling it is not really a networking issue, but more something with the wireless card or another issue with my desktop itself. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 531, probably about 3 years old, which as I mentioned ran fine with the wireless before. I am running Vista. In the past several months, the computer fan would kick in really hard and often at graphically intense moments though it doesn't do it any more (yes, it is still running at normal speed), so I'm not sure if the card itself was overheated and damaged? Since the others run fine?

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15R at the weekend and I am having problems with the wireless internet speed.I have Virgin Media broadband in the UK, my package is 50Mbps. This is via a Virgin Media super hub and is only 1 month old.The internet speed on my new Dell is very slow in comparison to my old laptop (an HP) so I tested the connection using Speedtest.net. [code]
As you can see the HP is consistent on both the wireless network and hard wired but the performance of the Dell is excellent on a wire but terrible on wireless. Some further info - I bought Norton 360 with the laptop, the above results were achieved with that installed. I have since uninstalled that and there was no difference to the speedtest.net. I then turned off the windows firewall and again it made no difference to the results.

Got an XPS 8300 with a 1501 Wireless-N WLAN half-mini card. I'm using a Linksys WRT160n router which can handle up to Draft 802.11n.
When wired directly to router I'm getting ~21-25Mbps. When I go wireless, it's pitiful - down to ~2-4Mbps. We just got a new laptop in the house (a chromebook actually) and the wireless throughput on that is equal to my wired throughput (21-25Mbps).
I'm using WEP security on the router.
What settings to check/modify to get my connection speed up? Everything I checked seems to be OK and the driver version is up-to-date.

Just received the above laptop from Dell Outlet. First of all I have a dead pixel right in the middle of the screen - will be taking this up with Dell as its really off putting especially on brand new laptop. My second issue is with wireless - did have problems initially with wireless disconnects and generally slow speeds. Im not entirely sure but removing Mcafee seemed to work with the disconnects at least - load of rubbish imo. Now my only other major issue is with wireless speeds on the 1703 card. I seem to max out at about 45mb on all broadband speed tests - while on another laptop I get the full speeds of 80mb on the same server at the same location.
Im only getting a link speed of 72Mbps in the networking tab of Task Manager and this does seem rather slow - the other laptop gets 450Mbps (better wireless card - to go with my Asus N66U Router)Anyway my thought process is that the 1703 wireless card is not up to much in the inspiron 14z- I understand that the 1703 card is wireless and bluetooth - with I think 1 antenna for bluetooth and one for wireless connected to the wireless card. Now I don't use bluetooth much if at all - so does it make sense to buy just a wireless card and connect the two antennas to the card and therefore losing bluetooth connectivity but gaining better wireless connection??? any wireless card recommendations??I think I have an Intel Centrino WiFi Ultimate N 6300 in the other laptop by the way.

I have Network Adpater : Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 having version number 15.5.7.52 which is latest.

Four weeks ago I bought a Dell Vostro 3550 notebook to use it at home. I conntected it via my wireless accesspoint to get access to data on my NAS, which is within my home network. Then I noticed that the connection is not stable, although the computer says "excellent signal". Whenever I access files via explorer on the NAS I loose connection from time to time and the reaction time is very slow (sometimes I have to wait seconds).During search for the reason I pinged directly the access point and saw unacceptable slow response with large variation. I checked the connection with an other computer (running XP), using same position. There it works fine (see below) - stable connection. It seems that the configuration of the access point does not work well with the configuration of the Dell computer - or an hardware fault on the Vostro. Below are the test data and my configuration.

I recently bought a new Inspiron 15R Special Edition less than 3 weeks ago. It has recently started playing up with the internet. I've reset the router, and deleted and reconnected to the internet connection but it has stayed the same.
I have also been having problems with some computer programs. McAfee and windows threat both decided to shut down along with the firewalls. The security seems to be up and running now but my firewall doesn't seem to want to turn on.

I purchased a Dell Studio 1737 about 2 years ago, and have not had any problems with my wireless service until about a week ago. Now my wireless connects, but is extremely slow. I am using a Dell wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card. I ran a hardware diagnostic and nothing is wrong with the hardware. I also ran a connection diagnostic, and it continually fails when it gets to either Gateway IP, or Internet IP. The driver is fully upgraded, and I have ran Malwarebytes and have not found any malware problems. how to get my wireless working properly again.

Bought a brand new Dell Inspiron 15r N5110 a week ago. I've looked through all the posts. I tried 3 different browsers, I updated drivers, firmware, BIOS, re-seated the wireless antennas under the memory module, even got a new router and modem changed settings on the router, yet still! Every solution I could find, I've executed but still have a wireless speed test yielding less than 1.0 mbps. My 4 year old laptop runs smooth, my iPad runs smooth, all other devices run smooth.

I've got a Studio 15 Dell with the 365 bluetooth module running win7 64-bit and I'm using it with my iPhone for internet tethering / mobile broadband.
The iPhone 3GS is paired with the laptop just fine and no errors and can connect and use the internet tethering. The problem I have is that it takes about 5 minutes before I get the option to Connect to the Access Point.
It doesn't matter if I turn bluetooth on/off on the iPhone, reboot the iphone or turn the bluetooth adapter on / off on the laptop. I try refreshing, I try forcing the pairing from the iPhone interface and so on.
I have the dell configured to allow the iPhone to always connect without prior authentication or extra approval.
Nothing seems to make a difference other than to sit around and wait 3-5 minutes and then all of sudden I get the option to Connect to the Access Point.

I bought my laptop over a year ago. The wireless is really slow. I read other posts about this issue and found out that the network adapter(n1030) on this laptop is faulty or something. So I tried connecting to the internet using the Ethernet port.
The port shows up on my device manager.Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.I know there is nothing wrong with the modem or the Ethernet cable because internet on the other computers in my house work fine.
I would also like to add that when I bought the computer, it came with windows 7 but had the ubuntu sticker on it. People in Fiji only mostly use windows so I guess the shop I bought this from did the change to windows themselves.

The issue is that one Dell laptop is experiencing slow or no internet connectivity at all using wireless. Sometimes 1 to 2 minutes to load a page, other times the dreaded 'not able to display webpage' message. It's fine using Ethernet. I have another laptop (same exact brand/model) and it has no problems. I also have a Macbook Pro and other Apple IOS devices (iPod/iPads) that are fine. Several Ethernet connected devices are fine as well. The laptop in question had no issues with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG as well as a WRT-54GS v2. This one laptop was fine the first day or two on the EA4500 but something happened which is causing this issue. I had to add the WAP55AG back onto my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to decommission the other devices. i have a Dell Precision T3500 tower running Windows 7 Ultimate. This was built and shipped in March 2011 equipped with a EMEA Dell Wireless 1520 PCIe card, which has a wireless antenna attached to the port. The PC is about 30ft from the wireless router, a BT Home hub. From outset I noticed that I was gettimng very slow connection speeds to the internet, but supposed this was because our broadband was using a standard BT line with copper cables, and we are some 3 miles from the BT exchange. I was getting speeds of around 300-500kb/s. BT have just finished installing BT Infinity in my area, offering 'up to 40mb/s' speeds. I upgraded on Friday of last week.
Here's the problem: we have three laptops in the house and they are now all getting between 15mb/s-20mb/s speeds, including my Dell Inspiron laptop which is using a Dell Wireless 1501 Mini Card to connect wirelessly. Sat next to this laptop is my Precision tower, with the wireless antenna. However, the PC is getting a speed of only 3mb/s.The modem and router are obviously working fine. Forget 40mb/s, I am quite happy with 15mb/s. But why is the PC wireless speed so poor?. For a brief five minutes or so on Friday the PC DID get 15mb/s but not since then. I cannot see any way to configure the wireless card to increase the speed.I tried disabling the Dell network adaptor, and installed and plugged in a Belkin USB wireless adaptor (on which my wife's PC had achieved 15mb/s) but this slowed the wireless even more - to around 100kb/s.

I'm renting accommodation, so I don't have direct access to the router etc. It's a Belkin (who I understand to be a pile of ****) router. The ping is mostly 6-8ms, but ~10% of the time it spikes to >100ms.This is way too high for a router right? Surely it should be like, 1ms.Wireless connection. It broadcasts two SSIDs (one is the other but with 5ghz appended).

I have a fairly large area to cover with wireless, and set up a second router to act as a repeater. The signal works great, other than being extremely inconsistent. Sometimes I get a speedtest of 18 ping and 7 mbps DL to a nearby server, and 10 seconds later it's 300 ping and 2 mbps. There are no problems when using the primary access point without the repeater. Where should I start in troubleshooting? I can't see why there would be such terrible consistency since much of the time the signal strength is fine. It's purely a problem of dropping the connection often.

I have full wi-fi signal and I have a fast broadband connection. Every now and again the connection speed to just one PC drops to a point where there is almost no activity. I get various "connection timed out" and "DNS lookup failed" errors, then after about 10 minutes of frustration everything works again. I know this problem is isolated to just this one PC as I have done Internet speed tests from another computer. I have tried using different wireless cards, resetting the router, changing DNS servers. Nothing has worked.

i have high speed internet from charter(i know they are not the best but more on that later) with actually download speeds tested online around 10-13mbps on average. i keep my computer pretty clean, running smart defrag, cleaning the disk, anti virus, only have programs running in the background that are needed, have increased my virtual memory and also use readyboost with a 4 gb flashdrive that i allow to use all the flashdrive memory as "ram" memory. so i think this has be something below the surface and that i cannot handle on my own. i do not think it is my internet provider because i have to roommates that have computer and they have no problem usually with the internet. when i say usually i mean they have problems sometimes maybe 3-4 times weekly where i have problems at least 2-3 times a day.

I had a power surge caused by the local electrical provider on February 3, 2011. Since then my computer power source was replaced and the computer works okay. Since the power surge my speed to uploading and downloading on the internet is inconsistent. Time Warner, my internet provider, said it was an internet problem and they replaced the modem, and have worked on their lines multiple times and now say it's a computer problem, not with their wiring. Yesterday I could not get an upload or download signal at all. This morning my download was 29.23 and upload 1.91. Some days it will take 4-5 yours to send an e-mail. I don't know what to do.

My laptop is connected to an Internet cable inside my apartment building for access to a free Internet service provided by the building management. The high speed cable service works okay for a few days but then after say 4 or 5 days it starts to slow down and then on the 6th or 7 day I can no longer connect using the cable. The technician in my building doesnt speak such good English and claims it is a software problem in Windows itself in my laptop ,but I don't know what would cause the software to trigger this condition? The last time the technician told me to go through some steps but I have to admit I have forgotten the very last ones in the " procedure " and how to complete the final steps of the procedure :-
He said to :-
1. Right click on the computer icon on the desktop
2. click on device manager
2. click on " network adapters " these are shown as being " Atheros AR8152/8158 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller ( NDIS 6.20 ) and secondly " Realtek RTL8188CE Wireless LAN 802.11 PCI-E NIC "
4. After that he told me to " refresh " the connection but I have forgotten how to do so?The wireless connection is working okay but I have noticed once this fault happens to the cable connection, the wireless connection doesn't work either until I unplug the cable. Then I can connect to the wireless Internet connection. But if I leave the cable in then neither the cable or the wireless works?

we just switched to a DIR-655 from a terrible Rosewill router a few weeks ago. We've been having some problems, and I've been trying desperatly to figure out what exactly is causing them so I can fix it.
Problem:
The router will periodically, and seemingly at random, dive into huge latency spikes. As of writing this, I am running a one thousand ping latency run from CMD, and I've watched response times go from 15ms average to 300ms average. The time of day seems irrelevant, as is what anyone on the network is doing. After a fresh restart of the router, everything runs smoothly for about 10 minutes, at which point everything goes ham.
Details:
I am using a DIR-655 D-Link router with a Cisco DPC3008 modem provided by Comcast.
Router P/N: BIR655ANA....B1
Router S/N: F35F5BC0019A777
Router Firmware: 2.10NA
Connection Type: DHCP
I've run the Modem directly into my PC, the connection is perfect. I've hard resetted multiple times, as well as run it with all of the above settings on/off. Updating the firmware does nothing. I've moved the router/modem apart so as not to cause signal interference.
Things I Can Try
I want to try running the router with wireless disabled to see if some sort of interference is being caused by the other computers on the network, or if one of them is hogging bandwidth.
I want to try running a program that can monitor or analyze each stage of the connection to see where the problem is.
I want to downgrade to an earlier firmware.

For months now, my ping has been randomly spiking at an inconsistent rate. I can be good for an hour, and down for a week. My usual ping is a solid 15, but it has gone as high as 1000. I've gotten a new modem, and that has changed the problem a little bit(I no longer suffer extreme download and upload loss when my ping drops) but I have yet to find a fix for the problem.
