Dell :: Wireless Card Seems Slow On XPS 14z
Nov 25, 2011
I just got a XPS 14z. The wireless signal isn't consistent and it is weaker than my old XPS 1330. It's actually painfully slow. Every thing is exactlly the same. I have my old computer next to the new computer and the wireless signal is working much better on the old computer. Pages are loading more quickly on the older model. Howothers wireless is performing on their 14z? There is nothing wrong with the router or internet connection.

i have a Dell Precision T3500 tower running Windows 7 Ultimate. This was built and shipped in March 2011 equipped with a EMEA Dell Wireless 1520 PCIe card, which has a wireless antenna attached to the port. The PC is about 30ft from the wireless router, a BT Home hub. From outset I noticed that I was gettimng very slow connection speeds to the internet, but supposed this was because our broadband was using a standard BT line with copper cables, and we are some 3 miles from the BT exchange. I was getting speeds of around 300-500kb/s. BT have just finished installing BT Infinity in my area, offering 'up to 40mb/s' speeds. I upgraded on Friday of last week.
Here's the problem: we have three laptops in the house and they are now all getting between 15mb/s-20mb/s speeds, including my Dell Inspiron laptop which is using a Dell Wireless 1501 Mini Card to connect wirelessly. Sat next to this laptop is my Precision tower, with the wireless antenna. However, the PC is getting a speed of only 3mb/s.The modem and router are obviously working fine. Forget 40mb/s, I am quite happy with 15mb/s. But why is the PC wireless speed so poor?. For a brief five minutes or so on Friday the PC DID get 15mb/s but not since then. I cannot see any way to configure the wireless card to increase the speed.I tried disabling the Dell network adaptor, and installed and plugged in a Belkin USB wireless adaptor (on which my wife's PC had achieved 15mb/s) but this slowed the wireless even more - to around 100kb/s.

Have had my XPS One 27 for a few days and the 1703 wireless card has cut my download speeds more than half. Whereas I was getting anywhere from 75 to 80 Mbps on my previous machine with a b/g/n/ wireless card, I am now only able to get 25 to 30 Mbps on this new machine. Nothing has changed on my router, I just plugged in the XPS One 27 and it automatically found the router and I logged in without a problem. The router is the WNDR 3700. I am on a 105Mbps tier and need my download speed restored to what I used to get. Is there a "tweak" or is there a better wi-fi card I can install?

I have just got my new xps 17 and opted for the 6230, It only gets to 20 meg download speed, I can insert my old usb N adaptor and get the full 50 meg. I was on the phone for 2 hours last night with Dell, they had remote access and tried lots of things to improve the problem.
Finally once they saw that my old usb adaptor was much faster, they said a technician would call me back today betweek 12pm and 1pm or 4.30pm.

Older model Inspiron 1545' using the 1397 WLAN card. Has been working fine, until perhaps the past two weeks. Now it frequently drops out, requiring manual disconnect and reconnect. Tonight Internet very slow on that laptop.
There are other devices using the same wifi (including this iPad used to post this), which connect to the wifi and Internet no issue. To me, its pointing to the laptop - either the WLAN card itself, or something in the laptop starting to fail (the laptop does have issues restarting - where it won't do that unless left for say 30 mins).
I'm suspecting a recent windows update or mcafee security update - no other software has been installed or updated.
I've tried changing antenna setting from auto to aux with no change to the above. Have checked for newer drivers - the laptop reports the version we have is the latest ( from 2009) - although they are the windows driver. Running windows 7, 64 bit - as supplied by dell when laptop was brand new. should I give up on the 1397 card and use another USB wifi adapter ?

I recently bought a router with 300+450mbps dual-band connectivity. I have a computer and am looking into buying a wireless n adapter. Should I buy a 450mbps-capable card? They cost much more than 300mbps cards and I'm not sure if the price difference is justifiable if current devices won't saturate all of the bandwith. Also, will a 300mbps card slow a 450mbps network down to "only" 300mbps?

Which wireless card would you recommend for my Dell XPS 8300 desktop? It has an Intel iCore 7 CPU with 16 GB ram running on Windows 7. There are three empty PCI Express x1 slots. The router is an old Linksys Wireless Broadbank Router, 2.4 GHz, 802.11g, purchased back in 2005.

I am using a Dell XPS 420 computer running Vista. My wireless network has worked fine until now. I had my video/graphics card go bad and installed a new one (ATI Radeon 4350). That fixed the video problem but since then I have not been able to connect to my home wireless network. Windows suggested that I may have a hardware problem with my network adapter so I replaced it with a new Linksys AE 1200 USB adapter. The device manager says it is working properly but it does not pick up the wireless networksays no networks available. The old computer sitting next to it picks up the network fine. I have reinstalled the adapter several times with no effect. When I click on the wireless network icon and ask it to diagnose the problem it says that 1) the network adapter has a driver or hardware problem (device manager says its working properly) and 2) to make sure that the Internet Protocol Bindings are proper and to make sure that Internet Protocol Version 4 and Internet Protocol Version 6 are selected (those two protocols are selected).

Inspiron N5050.Fresh install Win 7 sp1 home premium.I have the Dell drivers disc.when I go through the list of drivers to install, there is one listed for the wireless card for this computer, but it does not have the 'tick' which says the device has been detected.i try to install that driver anyway and I am asked to "Activate Bluetooth Using Wireless Switch". I went here [URL] and then did a search for DW1702, which is the card listed on my customer invoice. From that search I am taken here [URL] which lists 3 kinds of drivers: A01, A02 and A03. I have tried all three. A01 and A03 give up quite quickly. With the A02 the InstallShield Wizard starts up and most of the installation seems to take place and then it gives up. Windows tells me the driver was not installed properly.Whenever there is a problem over drivers, Dell tells us to install the Notebook System Software. There is no NSS on my drivers disc. (It does not come up on the list of drivers to install when the disc is first inserted and is not listed under 'System Utilities'.) Since I can't connect to the internet without at least an ethernet driver installed, how am I supposed to install the NSS first? In any case when I enter my service tag on here or do a search for the N5050, I am given 11 filtered results and 33 'all related drivers' but no NSS.I was charged extra for the drivers disc and it doesn't have what I want. The laptop without a wireless card is useless to me.

My parents own two old Dell Latitude D505 laptops, and they want to use them with their wireless internet. They have one Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network Card (#F5D7010), but when I put it in, it says I have to download the drivers for it, and can't find the drivers. I tried downloading the Belkin Driver, but it still says another driver is missing. My question: Would it be possible to download the driver on my mac, transfer it to the dell with a flash drive and install it? If so, how do I find the right one?

I have recently re-installed Windows XP on Dell Inspiron 2200 and notice that I no longer have the icon to view or repair wireless connections. I have installed drivers R91081.EXE (8MB), R92088.EXE (1MB) and INFEENUA.cab (195KB) from Dell web site – Drivers download page but can’t see to be able to bring up the icon.
Which driver(s) I need to download?
I have owned this laptop since 2005. It has been excellent so far and I would very much like to keep using it until it finally gives up.

I have my Dell Laptop with model 14R5420, service tag <Admin Note:service tag removed per privacy policy~RK>. It runs normally on Win 7. However, when I upgrage to Win 8, the wireless card can not receive the driver. I list below what I did.
- Download all drivers for my laptop which compatible Win 8 64 bit by using my service tag .
- Install Win 8 (format disk label C)
- Run Bios Driver to flash BIOS
- Set up all other downloaded drivers
All devices work perfectly except the wireless card. In Device Manager, there is still an unrecognized device name Network Device. I know that is the wireless card.If I run my backup to Win 7, everything is normal.
