Dell :: Inspiron 1545 - WiFi Icon In Utility Tray Is Always Showing X
Jan 10, 2012
A few days ago when I updated my dell inspiron 1545, the wifi icon in the utility tray is always showing an x (this means he doesnt find any connections). But when I click on it it says i am connected with my internet and shows different kind of wifi nearby.
I recently upgraded a relatives Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit! To Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. Previously this was connected wireless to a netgear router. On upgrading the OS i have found that the previous network is no longer showing up in the list of avalible networks even though a number of other devices can still connect and see the broacast of the SSID. As other networks are showing up and the laptop can succesfully connect to others I dont see this as being a driver issue. I have checked the router configuration for broadcast of SSID and MAC filtering. My next step will be to connect the router and laptop via ethernet.
Some time ago the mother-board ethernet card on my Dell Dimension 8400 failed, so I fitted a PCI card, and all was well: The failed card was Broadcom NetExtreme 57xx. The PCI one is Realtek RL8139. I got back onto the web, even though one of the (now two icons) in the system tray has a red cross, and all seemed well.
Recently I wanted to set up a home network with a wireless laptop, and though both machines seem to see each other I cannot connect the PC to the LAN to share files. The Ethernet icon in the tray has a red cross, and gives the pop-up "Not Connected - no connections are available". The Network and Sharing Centre will not let me connect, apparently because it thinks I am connected to a public network, which I cannot change to work or home. but it also has a red cross on the PC to Internet connection. If I run the troubleshooter, it cannot find and fix any problems. In the security settings app, I have set the radio buttons to be able to change the status of networks, and to rename them. If I try to connect from the laptop to the PC, I am asked for a network ID and password, but there is nowhere for me to set this up. I have a wireless dongle, but this gives the same symptoms. I am able to connect to a wireless printer (ethernet cable to router, then wireless to the printer).
I have tried many things, always making sure I have Administrator privileges. I don't know whether the problem is that the PC only sees the faulty modem, or is something to do with the public network status, which I have seen as a problem in many other posts, but none of the solutions have worked. I have uninstalled the faulty modem, but obviously cannot physically remove it, as it is part of the motherboard.
System information is thus:

I got a (one year old) Dell Inspiron 1545 and I'm using it always with wifi on to get connected to the net.Since a couple of days this Wifi connection often goes off and on (by itself) and I got no clue what it source of this problem is.My Eventlog says that it switches off very irregulary (between 3 and 10 minutes). I've installed the newest drivers and got the latest updates for the Wifi card and on my Windows Vista.
I have an inspiron 1545 that had to be resurrected after a crash. The WiFi worked before I re-loaded windows from the recovery disc, The radio switch indicates it is on but it doesn't seem to find any signals. I am running windows vista sp-2. I am using version mifi2200. If I am overlooking the way to make the WiFi work by getting into a program and having to turn something on or adjusting a setting i am unaware of what to do.
for no apparent reason I have lost both wi-fi and wired Internet on my Dell Inspiron 1545. I have tried to set up again etc but it states 'No connections are available'. I am connected on my iPod so my broadband is fine. I have tried with an Ethernet cable but it does nothing.
my laptop does not connect to my wifi network.it gets local access but does not connect to internet.as told y others i tried to enable dhcp server but still its not getting connected to internet.when i go to run->cmd->ipconfig /all i get the following :

I recently purchases an inspiron 1545 notebook with various upgrades, one including an upgraded wireless card to get faster speeds and signal strength. I have had problems with this laptop ever since i recieved it, i have an old laptop with a worse card which picks up my signal perfectly fine and the speed and signal stays constant. With this inspiron 1545 with a "even better" wireless card i have many problems:,losing signal, poor signal strength and quality, speeds going from decent to slower than dial up,I will be checking this as often as possible.
copy of system info file wifie and network service will not start. services are enabled in dell boot when F2 used in start up. I can see from this that the media is disconnected. How do I connect the media?

I have a dell inspiron 1545 after upgrading it from windows xp to windows 7 ultimate the bluetooth is not working now. the bluetooth even does not appear on the control panel on harware and sound. On a Dell Inspiron 1545, the internet stopped connecting. I updated all of the networking drivers and that did not work. The 'repair wireless network connection' does not work, it tries to repair it then stops at 'renewing your IP address'. It has nothing to do with the wireless network, because we are at a university and only this computer will not work.
here is the ipconfig /all

I have a three year old Inspiron 1545. About a month ago the computer stopped detecting the wifi at home. It never had this problem before, and the other household laptop and iPhone had no problem detecting and getting onto the the wifi. The problematic laptop will connect to the net via wire. I get a red x over the connection icon, and when I put the cursor over the icon, a message reads "connection status unknown: the dependency service or group failed to start."
My Dell inspiron 1545 with vista won't connect to the internet. I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with the router because i'm currently posting this through the same router on a different laptop.Everything was fine and i hadn't changed any of the settings and suddenly when i tried to connect it would say "connection taking longer than usual" and then "connection unsuccessful"When i look on availiable wifi's the strenth is excellent and when i diagnose the problem it says "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card"?
My Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop computer recently had a problem with its hard drive. I took it in and the computer guy had to get me a new hard drive. I picked it up today and my internet won't work! No networks show up. I've tried pushing the F2 key that usually turns the wireless on and off, but nothing. I went into my control panel>network and internet>network map, and it says, "The adapter is not connected." What do I need to do to get my wireless to work?
i tryed clicking The Dell wireless WLAN card utility and it reads, "there are currently no wireless adaptors availabe and enabled, i also wento to device manager and next to all my network adaptors there is an exclamation mark?
My cat was laying on my computer and found the key combo to turn off my wireless card! There is no switch on the front or side and I can't find the combo anywhere in the info on my computer. It is an Inspiron 1545.
I installed windows 8 X64 build 9200 on dell inspiron 1545 and it didn't recognized the Bluetooth. It also rejects its win7 driver due to known comparability issue. Where can I find the driver?
I installed Windows 8 (Build 9200)on Dell Inspiron 1545, Service Tag No -<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>. Peviously it was working in Windows 7 & Vista
I have an inspiron 1545. I had to wipe the drive and reinstall, I have the OS disc but do not have (and cannot remember if it came with) any other installation discs for it. I have downloaded the drivers off of the Dell site for the laptop and put them on it via usb, and installed them. However It will not connect to anything. It will not connect wireless or hardwired. Is there a particular installation driver I'm missing and can download? Can I download a virtual disc of the ones I no longer have?
i have an inspiron 1545 and my internet goes out very often, like a 5-10 times per hour. how can i fix this issue? i love my laptop, but i can't use it for any important documents anymore.
I am trying to get my mom's n7110 working correctly in a hurry. The WiFi is painfully slow. It is not the router because I am getting great speed on every other computer. The speed on the n7110 is very unreliable. One second it will be 3mbps or lower, then it will jump to 14mbps.....compared to my inspiron 1545 that gets close to 20mbps according to [URL].
I've tried updating some drivers yesterday, and that worked a little bit because it was WAY worse before that...it would take about a minute to load a picture.any tricks or updates i should look for now?
Recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 and performed a fresh install of Win 7 Premium 64-bit on a new SSD. Installed latest drivers for all hardware but discovered after the install that my wireless adapter wasn't able to find any wireless networks (it worked find under Windows 8 when laptop was first unboxed). My wired connection works fine though, I am able to connect up to my network without issue using a network cable. Also, I am able to connect to my home wireless network without issue using another laptop. In addition, the adapter icon in my tray shows a red-X on it. I've found many issues through web searches that suggest driver updates or hardware disable/enable steps but neither of these approaches have worked for me. I am holding off re-installing my OS until I've tried some more simpler and less time consuming options. [code] When I run a hardware test via the Intel Wi-Fi manual diags I get the following: "Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver".
I have accidentally uninstalled the WLAN utility card. I tried reinstalling it via dell downloads but windows says that it is not compatible. I have lost my wireless connectivity to the internet on my inspiron 5520 laptop and need it back as soon as possible. Do you have this driver which is compatible with win 8?
My wireless card is Dell Wireless 1704 card (802.11n + BT 4.0)
My daughter switched from Windows 7 to Windows Vista on her Dell Inspiron 1545 now I can not connect to Internet . I can not locate network adapter on device manager.
