Last night i was changing some settings of my router(linksys WRT54G) trying to assign a gaming console a static ip. I thought i had succeeded and everything was working fine. 12 hours later, it appears everything can no longer connect. all the regular lights of the router are on, but my desktop pc and my wireless laptop seem unable to connect.

My desktop is connected to the same wireless network as my laptop yet my laptop has connection while my desktop does not.The desktop might actually be connected directly do a router (says 'local area connection 2 connected' right now but still no connection).I checked other posts on other websites that say to post all this command-prompt information that i cant necessarily access because i do not know the administrator password.
OK, so I have a wireless/wifi connection at home. Problem is, the router is located in the bedroom (it's a rental house, and wired kinda odd). I have my desktop on a table in the kitchen.
I want to connect my Desktop to my Laptop....which I can do with an ethernet cable, but I don't know how to let them share the wireless/wifi connection. How to connect to the internet on my Desktop through the Laptop?

I have a desktop CPU (without monitor) and a Acer D270 netbook.Desktop CPU has XP (SP3) and Netbook has XP SP3 and Win 7 (Dual boot).I wish to setup a LAN so I can access and view my desktop PC which is morepowerful than my netbook. How do I setup the LAN connection or use remote desktop? I have a lengthy crossover cable ready (2 sided RJ45 cable). Regarding performance, how good will it be. Can I play high quality games? The CPU has NVidia Graphics card.
I have ATT Uverse. My laptop connects just fine but after I had my desktop fixed, I am not able to connect to the internet on my desktop. When I look for wireless networks, I am unable to find any. I am using a Netopia Wireless USB Card
I have two computers side by side 192.168.1.7 and 192.168.1.8 both running xp pro sp3. On 8 I can RDC to the 7, but on 7 I cannot RDC to 8. I can see port 3389 listening on both using netstat -a. But 7 just can't RDC connect to 8. 7 cannot ping 8 either. I have the firewall turned off on 8, I had tried allowing RDC 3389 earlier with the firewall but that didn't work either.I don't have any extra firewalls running.Life will be like perfect, if I can just RDC to 8.Both are on the same wired belkin wireless router, 4' from itl.I tried taking the no ping no rdc computer to work and it didn't work there either.
I'm a college student residing in the dorms a I did last year and over the summer. In both cases i had to move to different housing and internet connection went without a hitch. However i'm now at my new place, and i cant seem to get my desktop computer to connect to the internet. After 8 different campus tech crews came through, they've determined that the connection issue is not caused on their end. The issue as far as i can tell is not caused by the cable either because i got internet access when i bridged the connection using my laptop's wireless connection. I have also used the cable to connect to the internet on my laptop. However, when i try to connect on my desktop it says that that ethernet cable is not connected. No link light comes on, and the connection is not recognized at all.
About three days ago my Lenovo desktop lost its internet connection. The two other machines in my house (wireless laptop and desktop) both still have internet. It appears I have the issue of my IP address being 169.254.xx.xx and subnet mask being 255.255.0.0.All of these have been unsuccessful.
My pc desktop is connected to the wireless router by the ethernet cable and the laptop is connected through the wifi. now i want to connect laptop to the pc so that i can work on my desktop pc through the laptop, i can view the files and even edit them.

I have a desktop and a laptop connected to one router, my desktop is connected via ethernet wire and my laptop is connected via wireless.
Here's the problem, on my desktop under "Network" in the Windows Explorer, I can see my laptop's name as well as my desktop's name. But when I want to go into my laptop it says "Windows cannot access \<laptop name>".
But, if I go onto my laptop and do the same thing, it works perfectly, no errors, no problems. Both of them have their IPs automatically assigned as well as the DNS server address. Both have File Sharing enabled and both have Network Discovery enabled.
My desktop has Windows 7 64-bit and my laptop has Windows 8 Pro 64-bit. I have tried disabling both firewalls, no luck. I used to be able to connect to my laptop, but now I can't. But I can connect to my desktop through my laptop. My router is a NETGEAR DGN2200
My desktop doesn't connect to the router and when i troubleshoot, it tells me that the ethernet cable is not plugges into the computer. But the ethernet cable is already plugged in. My two laptops have no problems connecting to the internet.
I just bought a Lenovo ThinkPad for my wife and I cannot connect to my router via wifi. I keep getting the message 'Windows was unable to connect to (network name). I tried it with router security disabled and I still get this message.

I'm running Windows 7 on my desktop, and I've had problems since yesterday with my pc. My Vista notebook, ipad3, ipod touch, android based phone and blackberry are all able to connect to the wifi, but my desktop is unable to connect to the wifi or ethernet. Things were working fine until yesterday, when I had to power cycle, after which the desktop connection stopped, though other devices are working fine. My ipconfig details are as follows:

1. Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem for internet 2. Rosewill 8 Port Switch RC-406X
And I have:
1. Dell Q6600 desktop running on Windows 7 2. Dell Latitude laptop running on Windows XP 3. Xbox 360
These all need access to the internet.Up until now, everything worked fine. The Motorola modem was connected in Slot 1 and my desktop, laptop and Xbox were all 3 connected into slots 2, 3 and 4.The other day, I accidentally pressed a switch in my home that switched off my modem. Anyway, once everything was reset, things changed.I can no longer be on the internet with all 3 devices at the same time. Either only the laptop can be connected, with the 2 other devices being offline, or just the desktop and not the laptop.Whenever I gain access to the internet via the desktop, it shows as Network 10 and if I try and repair the connection on the laptop, it says it is unable to renew the IP address. If I switch it up and I have access on my laptop but try and have access on the desktop, the network shows up as Unidentified.
I have laptop or desktop both computers and i want to share my desktop matter in my laptop or laptop matter in my desktop without using any modem by the using of a simple cores cable? how i can handle it..
I am trying to connect my file server to my desktop and laptop through a workgroup, however while my Laptop and desktop recognize each other, they will not recognize the file server. I have tried what I can including setting firewall exceptions and even disabling it and nothing will change. Both the file server and desktop run Windows XP SP3 while the laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium. the file server is connected to a 5-port router which is then connected to a 10-port hub that is connected to the gateway, while the laptop and desktop are connected to a different 5-port router which is connected to the same 10-port hub. I am saying thing also because I think it is a hardware problem since the laptop/desktop can connect perfectly as they are on the same router.
I stumbled upon a problem which i cannot resolve, the situation is as folows:
A router (Netgear wgt624v3) is connected to the internet. My smartphone and every other wireless device I tested is able to connect to it but not my laptop. My laptop is able to connect to any other wireless network. I can however get acces to the web using an ethernet cable plugged into the router.
I already installed the newest driver for my wireless network card (Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Network Adapter) and I already upgraded the router to the newest firmware. I also disabled every security including the built in firewall. The strangest thing is that I can actually find the SSID of the network, I just cannot connect to it.
FYI: I use windows 7 64bit, laptop type is Packard Bell LM86
