High Bandwidth - Downloads Still Slow Ps3 Connections?
Dec 9, 2012
I have decent Bandwidth, high download speeds (25.67mbps) low ping(16ms) And okay upload speeds (4.47mbps). I usually browse Reddit and my father usually plays CoD. The problem is, whenever I try and download anything, his game slows down to where he gets kicked from the room.

If there is something that cant control the bandwidth of our internet.
The problem is that one person is constantly hogging our internet by downloading and such and making it impossible to play games.
So is there anything that can make it so he cant use that much bandwidth so we can play without constant lag?

I used to get speeds that exceeded 2 mb/s and now when i download steam games it fluctuates from 0 kb/s to 2.1 mb/s in an oscillating pattern. What is wrong with my internet? games that should take less than an hour to install now take 3.

I ran a speed test with my new DIR-655 connected to my PS3 and my download is 768kbps and my upload is 1.5mbps. However, my internet connection is 50mbps and 2mbps upload on my computer connected via LAN. While I understand SOME decrease, that's slower than the previous Wireless G router that I had.
I've reset the router twice and it's currently set to the factory defaults. I've even tried setting a static ip address for the PS3 and put it into DMZ mode. However, I'm still getting the slow speeds.
Also, my iPhone 4 is getting about 14mbps download and 2mbps upload. Is that expected?

I just built a new computer with most of the bells and whistles. Asus P8Z77-V pro motherboard, Intel I7 3770K CPU, NVIDIA GTX 560TI, SSD for my boot drive, HDD for storage both running on SATA III, 16 GB of RAMMy problem is that when I connect to the internet via an ethernet cord, my download speeds are about 58 MBPS which is fine but upload speeds are only about .3 mbps. I have changed cables 3 times and connected directly to the modem rather than the router which would indicate an ISP issue. The kicker is that when I disable the LAN network and enable my wireless network, I get slower download speeds as expected but my upload speeds are closer to 5 MBPS, more than 10X times faster which throws my ISP theory out the window a bit.

On certain downloads, Wifi speed seems to be throttled to about 100kB/s. I see this mostly on two BlackBerry Z10s, but also just saw it on my Wifi-connected PC when trying to download the latest DIR-655 firmware. The Z10s are screaming fast on Wifi at my work. They also do fine on YouTube and any other high bandwidth applications (I just tried Speedtest and got 11Mb/s). I think I can say that the slow speed is only when I'm downloading apps or updates on the phones.
I just updated my DIR-655 to the latest FW and have spent an hour flicking settings trying to find something that makes a difference. No luck. As it stands now, I'm downloading the latest OS upgrade to BB10 (345MB) at 100kB/s.

I have one customer who is complaining about slow FTP sessions, and timeouts. Depending on the file size, it gets to about 98% down and hangs. The ASA has a CSC SSM-10 on it, and even bypassing FTP through it, the problem occurs. It is running 822-17-k8 OS. Turning the SSM off does not make any difference.

We have had a shift in our work force and find a large number of uses now working from home. Lately (this weekend) they have been complaining about VPN client downloads being very slow. I have tested the IPSec client and the SSL client and compared them to an Internet download on the network using the exact same laptop and the exact same web site www.speednet.net. Here at the office I see 50M, over both VPN's I see (if I am lucky) 1M, all reading within a 15 minute period and all over the same 600M pipe to the Internet
We have never noticed this before this work force shift to home. Eliminating all other factors, which we think we have, would you expect VPN clients to behave this way?
MTU is set at default from day one. The only thing we have done to VPN configuration over the last week was to add a tunnel gateway to the ASA 5540 VPN configuration which is only a hop away from the firewall inside interface.
I will provide configuration data if you request but my question is just a general one at this point. Is this normal and can you make a suggestion as to how we can improve? We are research, running wireshark on the test laptop so as the day progresses we will have more information to provide if needed.

I recently switched to cable with Comcast. I am getting 20+Mbps wired, but I only get 1 Mbps w/wireless download. I am getting 4+ upload via wireless. Is my set up wrong? I reset my modem and Internet worked fine without any other changes. I am planning on buying a modem (instead of leasing) should I buy a gateway? I didn't think this router was out dated yet.

i have a 4Mbps DSL internet connection with 3 PCs connected through a router. 2 are connected wirelessly and the other is wired via an ethernet cable. i noticed that when downloading a file from an international server, the transfer rate on the wireless PCs is 2-3 times slower than on the wired PC. the wireless PC would get about 150-200kb/s, whereas the wired PC can max out to 450kb/s on a single download. however when i download from a local or nearby server instead, the transfer rate on the wireless and wired PCs are the same and can both reach up to 450kb/s per download. i don't understand why the wireless connection is slower to international servers compared to the wired PC.my wireless signal is at 54Mbps with "excellent" strength. i also tested the ping results from both the wireless and wired PCs to international servers and they are pretty much the same.
- all PCs are running windows XP SP3
- the modem/router is a D-Link 2640B

I have a Cisco 871w that has been a very great product for many years. I recently switched to Windows 7 x64 on my main machine and now i am having all sorts of issues with it.. I have done a bit of research and found that it appears that it might be the firewall on the SDM that is causing the slowness issues. what does happen is that downloads from known good sites will run really slow. If i hook up my Macbook Pro or my Windows XP laptop i have no issues at all. i have tried Disabling IPv6 as well as SMB2.0 and this has not resulted in a fix at this point.

Over the last couple of weeks I've been noticing high amounts of jitter and latency over my home network. I've come to some conclusions but am not 100% sure if they are correct or not. When one computer on the network opens a web page, loads a video off youtube or downloads something all of the computers on the network have considerably increased latency for a short period.I've tested 3 computers over WiFI watching ping commands and will show some below in a moment. Tested 1 computer using ethernet to connect to the router and its still affected by the issue. Ive also actually used the router to ping an outside source while the ping is increased and this is also affected. This has only been happening for the last 2 weeks.
Heres a list of hardware being used/software and os.
Windows 7 with a Belkin G enabled usb NIC
Windows XP with a realtek rtl8139/810x
Windows 7 (Friends laptop)
Router = Netgear dg834g
Settings
[code]...
So I've read up on QoS and understand that my router doesnt support it but I still dont understand how 1 person using youtube can affect my network that much. As before 2 weeks ago it did not affect it what so ever, and it didnt in my old house either. So what this means is that browsing is fine on the network, just whenever you try and play a game or anything that requires low latency anyone touching the network means you get massive jitter.

We own a Wifi controller 5508, with many access points connected to him. Except on the site where the controller is installed, all other APs are configured in FlexConnect mode through our MPLS network to prevent roundtrip for local communications (local client to local server for example).
Because of important slowness on one site where 8 APs are installed, we captured the traffic going in and out of our MPLS router and we discovered that the APs are consuming about 150kbits/s each in one-way communications with the controller (controller to APs), even when nobody is present (the capture was done this sunday).
Could you confirm me if this behaviour is normal or not ? What could explain such a large amount of data between the controller and the APs ?

I have been looking for a new router as my current one has packed in. I am mostly interested in a router with a fast and stable wifi and high throughput which can manage a high amount of maximum simultaneous connections. The linksys e4200 seems perfect and very well reviewed.I am currently on adsl, no cable in area, so i would need one to have an adsl modem. Is there a version with a modem? Or will i need to look around for another?
I am mainly interested in throuput and the reviews and comparison sites sugest that linksys seems perfect midway between max simultaneous connections and price. Any comparison website that has adsl routers. The information am looking for on that's between £60 and £160 with high amount of ram, high throuput for Maximum Simultaneous Connections, similar to link text

I am having issues trying to track down what is causing a high number of connection on our FWSM in our core 6509 switch. I recently upgraded my FWSM to 3.1(20) and I'm looking for a tool to be able to find the culprit. When I receive these messages I try to get onto the firewall in time to be able to get information regarding this issue but by the time I do the device recovers. Is there a way to tweat the threshold of the SNMP trap for high connections? Is there any way I can retreive this information via SNMP? Is there are command that will allow me to extract the local IP making the most connections?

One of my remote sites acquires Internet connectivity via a cable modem service. This goes down intermittently, of course. I would like to purchase DSL service from the local telco and configure the edge ASA (currently a 5505) to use the cable modem path normally ... and fall back to the DSL path if necessary.
These seems hard to do. The edge box would need to evaluate the viability of a WAN path using some set of tests ... perhaps pings to a handful of major Internet sites. If all those pings start failing, it would stall for a minute, to give the WAN service provider time to recover ... then cut over to the second path. Cutting to the second path might mean pushing new DNS server addresses to clients (or perhaps the edge box would hand out both sets of DNS servers all the time and rely on the clients to try them all.) Once the cable modem provider restored service, the edge box would stall for a while (ten minutes? an hour?) and then cut back.
I'm willing to replace the edge box with something fancier (a bigger ASA or something sold as a router or whatever), although I'd like to stay under 10K (list) for such a replacement.

Is it possible to increase bandwidth througput on 2951 router if you have 3 WAN connections from different ISP, lets say 12Mbps + 24Mbps + 8Mbps, so will I get 44Mbps internet connection in total? Also, on 887G router, if I use DSL 12Mbps broadband, can I use 3G internet connection constantly, not for backup only. My wireless connection says i have full bars of signal. When I do a speed test, i get 500-600 kb/s download. Which is what I used to get. However, after I re-installed my wireless adapter's card, the wna3100 netgear, it became extremely slow.
Pages would load slow, I could no longer play League of Legends properly because the ping is too high. Also, I used to have crossfire graphics cards running and the internet was fine, but after reinstallation, I thought I'd turn it off because that's how I fixed it before. But now, even with just one graphics card running, the internet is extremely slow.

I have multiple laptops and a PC in my house all connected to Verizon's wireless/wired modem/router.My laptop's bandwidth ranges from 7-20 Mbps, while the desktop cannot seem to rise about 1 or 2. The wireless card for the desktop was a USB Wireless G adapter, in the process of trying to figure out the problem, i replaced it with a b/g/n PCI card. This did NOT resolve my problem. So in a fit of desperation, I reformatted the Desktop, and Restored the modem/router to factory defaults (in that order) neither worked.

I have playon and the online bandwidth is showing slow. I did speedtest and it shows 20mbps, but the playon says below 2. No windows (7) security is enabled and avast is turned off. i rebooted and get the same results.I also cannot do any updates for my windows 7. I try and it says that it cannot do the update. I check the logs and all of the updates were done fine up to when I installed the 655; now it doesn't work.
Playon support says check network, which I have done, and the only thing left is the 655.

I bought an E2000 router as a replacement for my WRT54G router, since my internet speeds had been upgraded. But this E2000 router has been giving me nothing but trouble.
Wired through both the router or modem, I get my topspeed of 110mbps. However, as soon as I switch over to the wireless N function, my speed drops to only 25mbps. As far as I know, wireless N should have a much faster speed than that. Even my old WRT54G had faster speeds than this new router has. Mind you, that the distance between my laptop and router is about 3 inches away. The further I go away from my router, the speed exponentialy drops (20 feet, and the speed even drops to below 10mbps). Even with different laptops that have completely different wireless cards. Now honestly, I have tried EVERYTHING to get the speed up. Both 2.4 and 5ghz, 20mhz only, 40 mhz only, different channels (currently the router is in channel 11, being the only router in that channel), setting the network to G-only. I tried changing the Beacon interval thing in numerous settings, I even tried changing the MUT. Firmware is completely up to date. I have also tried placing the router on a completely different place, to make sure there was absolutely no interference (tough that shouldn't be an issue if my laptop is only 3 inches away) I tried changing the security mode to something different than WPA2/AES.
Nothing worked, if anything, it made it worse in some cases. I have litteraly tried every option I could find online, except for trying a third party firmware like DDWRT, which worked excellently for my old WRT54G, though I read that speeds can't be improved on this E2000 with a third party firmware.
Is there anything else I can do, or should I assume that my router is defective?
When I'm in my bedroom, I get a very poor connection and my speed drops to about 0.25mbps. Abysmal, so I bought a WiFi range extender to get me a better signal. It works, and it allows me to get a speed of about 5-6 mbps, without dropped connections. Still slow, but at least it works. The weird thing is, wired through my router or modem, I get about 9mbps upload speed. With this extender, I get the same 9mbps upload speed in my bedroom, though only 5-6 mbps download speed. You'd think that the upload speed would drop simultaneously with the download speed. How can my upload speed be higher (maxing out) than my download speed? I wonder if my transmitting antenna of my router isn't defective.

When we have IOS firewall running (either IP inspect or ZFW), we will experience intermittent slow HTTP connections.
Symptoms include page timeouts, CSS not loading and just overall slow performance. Disabling the inspection cures the issues.
