View 3 RepliesI have decent Bandwidth, high download speeds (25.67mbps) low ping(16ms) And okay upload speeds (4.47mbps). I usually browse Reddit and my father usually plays CoD. The problem is, whenever I try and download anything, his game slows down to where he gets kicked from the room.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIf there is something that cant control the bandwidth of our internet.
The problem is that one person is constantly hogging our internet by downloading and such and making it impossible to play games.
So is there anything that can make it so he cant use that much bandwidth so we can play without constant lag?
On certain downloads, Wifi speed seems to be throttled to about 100kB/s. I see this mostly on two BlackBerry Z10s, but also just saw it on my Wifi-connected PC when trying to download the latest DIR-655 firmware. The Z10s are screaming fast on Wifi at my work. They also do fine on YouTube and any other high bandwidth applications (I just tried Speedtest and got 11Mb/s). I think I can say that the slow speed is only when I'm downloading apps or updates on the phones.
I just updated my DIR-655 to the latest FW and have spent an hour flicking settings trying to find something that makes a difference. No luck. As it stands now, I'm downloading the latest OS upgrade to BB10 (345MB) at 100kB/s.
I recently switched to cable with Comcast. I am getting 20+Mbps wired, but I only get 1 Mbps w/wireless download. I am getting 4+ upload via wireless. Is my set up wrong? I reset my modem and Internet worked fine without any other changes. I am planning on buying a modem (instead of leasing) should I buy a gateway? I didn't think this router was out dated yet.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe pay for the 12 Mbps package from Comcast and speedtest.net shows that we get a roughly 18 - 19 Mbps connection. We have 4 computers connected to the network, one hard-lined and three wireless.
Usually it is not a problem for my roommate and I to play online games like TF2, Eve, Minecraft, L4D2 with C3 voice chat on our desktops while I simultaneously stream something from Netflix across my laptop.
Lately though, something has changed.
Now, whenever I am using my desktop and playing a game or downloading something (at roughly 2 Mbps) it seems to hog ALL of the bandwidth from the other computers on the network as Netflix suddenly begins having buffering issues on my laptop (wireless) and on my roommate's dektop.
As an example:
For the past few days my roommate and I have been trying to play Minecraft, we use C3 to voice chat while we play and I ALWAYS stream something across Netflix while we play. So in this instance we have one hard-lined connection and one wireless connection running Minecraft (across the LAN) and C3 (across the web) and one additional wireless connection streaming video from netflix (NOT HD Video).
This is common usage for us and it has NEVER been a problem in the past, but in the past few days this setup causes my desktop to lose bandwidth which forces my friend out of the game and causes latency issues with the voice chat program (sound breaks up and my roommate hears my voice chat nearly a minute after I've spoken).
Also, it seems that when my desktop (wireless) connection is working fine using around 2 Mbps, it seems to kill my laptop's (wireless) bandwidth and on one occasion the other night seemed to also affect my roommate's desktop (hard-lined) bandwidth while he was watching something on Netflix.
I have an internet connection (landline and wifi modem) at my parent's summerhouse as I need it for work. Nobody else does around here so I get constant nagging from neighbours to give them the password. I can't say no however I'm afraid they may use up too much of my bandwith connection which could lead to alot of money being lost from my part. Constant and stable internet is a must for my work. how can I limit the bandwith I give to them? Can I create a second public network with limited bandwith or something like that?

Ideally i want my router to continue functioning as normal but i can't afford to have a 20m Cat5 cable running from my router through my hallway and into the living area. I want to slow the connection down to 100mbs for this one device.
I just bought a E1200 routerand using automatic setup by using CISCO connectafter that, I only got a CONNECT SPEED with about 10Mbps in my android smart phone,I would like to know how can I increase the WIFI strength WITHIN THE WIFI SETTING, I chose MIXED mode rather than specific in b/g/n mode.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI set up an IPSec VPN with NAT-T between two cisco router 871. In particular one router acts as a SERVER and the other one as a CLIENT. All the traffic coming from the hosts connected to the CLIENT-router is sent over the VPN (no split tunnel). Everything works perfectly. The only problem is the amount of time the VPN takes to establish the first connection between the two routers. In particular it takes about two minutes. tell me if this amount of time can be reduced (with a partcular configuration instruction)? Or this is the minimum amount of time required for the first connection establishment?

Currently we have a few sites that have 8-9 4404 100AP controllers and I'm looking to condense these down to either 3 5508-500 or 5 5508-250 depending on cost. I'm wondering what a good port to AP ratio is for controllers with licenses that can handle over 100 AP's. I know the general rule of thumb is 25 AP's per port, but that seems to me to be 4400 way of thinking. I'm trying to also reduce the controllers overall footprint, i.e. ports on the uplink switch, power consumption, rack space etc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought myself the E4200v1 router, and have had several issues with it. One issue I cannot seem to find a workaround for is the wifi bandwidth problem.I have a 100/10 mbitl internet connection. The router claims to support 300/450 mbit speeds over wifi, so that should be plenty. in reality however, that isnt so.Even though my N-standard wifi adapter on my machine states it has a 130 mbit connection to the router, I consistently test the internet throughput when using wifi and speedtest.net to around 20-21 mbit. If I put in a cable, I instantly get full speed, 100/10 mbit.
Have to add; I am not new to the networking game, I have a CCNA and a degree in computer sciences, and work with hosting web sites using cloud tech every day. At this point, I have tried everything related to settings on the router, so I can only conclude that there's some kind of bug in the firmware. I would expect the standard firmware to work, and not having to install DDWRT or other custom firmware.

I can post specs later if you guys need em but one PC which I know its issue, it is around 10 years old so I'm not expecting great performance. The knew one though is only a year old with 1GB DDR2 Ram and windows XP Home. The older one has 512MB Ram....I think its SD with windows XP pro. Again I can post full stats later if needed but not really trying to trouble shoot. More looking to boost. We run 2 computers and a Wii off our wireless modem. I'm curious if somehow the computers could be configured to operate on seperate...ports I guess to minimize the lag on the modem. We are noticing that if one computer is downloading something it cause the second computer to lag or makes streaming anything all but impossible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI ran a speed test with my new DIR-655 connected to my PS3 and my download is 768kbps and my upload is 1.5mbps. However, my internet connection is 50mbps and 2mbps upload on my computer connected via LAN. While I understand SOME decrease, that's slower than the previous Wireless G router that I had.
I've reset the router twice and it's currently set to the factory defaults. I've even tried setting a static ip address for the PS3 and put it into DMZ mode. However, I'm still getting the slow speeds.
Also, my iPhone 4 is getting about 14mbps download and 2mbps upload. Is that expected?
