Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: ACS 5.1 Why So Much Disk Space Required

Apr 7, 2010

We are getting ready to bring up 2 new 5.1 ACS servers to replace our ACS 4.2 configuration. The documentation says that 512GB of disk space is required for each server.  This means we will need to request1 TB of disk space.  The VMware folks in our group are asking why we need so much space when the 4.2 servers are only using 20 gigs including the OS.

Cisco Security :: Syslog Server Disk Space With ASA5510

i'm about to configure a syslog server to receive syslog messages from a Cisco ASA5510 and being it a one week test I was wondering how much space should I allocate on the machine hosting the tool (kiwi syslog). I see that the ASA fills the internal syslog buffer to 4MB and then it overrides it. How many messages would those 4MB be?

Massive Upload Volume - Analog X Net-stat Shows 0

Oct 30, 2011

For 10 days, I have had massive upload volumes (2 - 7 GB) per day on my home network, not sure why. I am not downloading streaming video or any videos. We have several computers on our network, and I am not sure which one is diong all of this uploading. So, I installed AnalogX Netstat version 2.15 to monitor the stats on my computer, and it shows all totals for incoming and outgoing are "0kb", which I know isn't true. Why isn't it measuring my transmission? I am running Windows 7.
It shows local machine IP x.x.x.x, device All TCP/IP devices, and "remote" worked - I was able to ping url..successfully. But no stats are being measured at all. Not even CPU usage.

Cisco WAN :: Minimize IP Usage On 2911 And Keep NAT

Aug 1, 2012

I have a problem I am running into... I replaced a 2621 with a 2911. The 2911 has three interfaces and I need to use all of them... Description:

gige0/0 dhcp static IP from ISP, public IP, they assign me 4 more usable public IPs gige0/1 broken into four VLANS, 108, 109, 120, 127, ip nat on 109 for them to get to the internet, and a static translation on 127 for the phone system to get to the internet gige0/2 assigned another public IP. A tenent has a linksys router on this interface, they want a public IP.

The problem is that this setup worked, but when we moved to the 2911, some nat translations are failing, and we would like to figure out how to minimize the number of public IPs we use (right now it is three + the static assigned dhcp). The nat that is not working is the nats to the 2001-3001 range. I am not sure why it is failing, but the router seems to indicate it thinks some of these overlap. This router is also doing a vpn to an asa... that seems to be working fine.

No Connections Available - What Settings In Administrative Tools / Services Should Be Enabled

Aug 23, 2012

My Dell laptop on my home network was connecting fine until I tried to figure out why it was booting and running so slowly and tinkered with the settings (per a web site with recommendations). Now it says no connections are available (there are, and other devices are fine). I tried all the simple solutions and have made any programs automatic that even vaguely look internet related and I still can't connect. The wireless adapter is enabled. I need to know what settings in the administrative tools/services should be enabled. The laptop is running Win 7 pro.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Port Forwarding Using WRT160Nv3 To Minimize Static?

I have been using this router for quite some time, with a setup like.. Cable Modem ==> Vonage ==> WRT160Nv3 ==> PC.  It has been working very fine for all these years (6), but now I hear static disturbances in my phone calls, and so I decided to do port forwarding for the vonage device, to minimize the noise.  This device uses a static ip address of 192.168.15.1, and in the Linksys software, I am not able to use any ip addresses other than "192.168.1.*" in the port forwarding page.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Disable Administrative Native Vlan Tagging On 6509?

Dec 13, 2012

We have a problem with CDP packets on sent by our Cisco 6509's.  Unlike our other Cisco switches (4948G, 5020, etc.), the 6509 tags administrative traffic on the native vlan.  As a result the CDP packets are sent with an 802.1Q header with a tag of 1.  The other switches send the CDP packets untagged on the native vlan.  This causes problems because we have non-Cisco devices in our lab that also receive and send CDP, but they do not process the packets that are tagged by the 6509.  They see the packets from the 4948 and 5020 just fine.

How can I disable the administrative native vlan tagging on the 6509?  Here is the current setup:

nwkdev-6509-1#show vlan dot1q tag native
dot1q native vlan tagging is disabled globally
nwkdev-6509-1#show interfaces gigabitEthernet 1/9/1 switchport

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / Administrative Control On L3 Switch For DHCP Service

Sep 25, 2012

My Network Layout is as,  Firewall (with Routing)------>Cisco 3560 Switch (L3)------> connected 8 Cisco 2960 switch (L2)----> all users I have configured 20 VLAN's on cisco 3560 switch with Dynamic Pool and Static, Means, 5 Vlan's are Dynamic and remaining are Static Our Company process provides only internet access to existing clients computers. Problem is that, I configured Static VLAN 5 for one of our Client in their seperate room, mean to say, i activated all ports of their room with Static VLAN 5. one day they configured own DHCP server on Windows 2003 Server with same subnet (Same as VLAN5) in their room without any information and now their all computer/ Laptop acquiring ip address Dynamically.

If i have configured Static vlan on that port's then how it is get Dynamic ip from same port's.How to restrict to permit another DHCP server/Service in our premises. I Do not want to give administrative control to Clients to do such kind of thing with LAN.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 8.2 - Site-to-Site VPN Stops When Traffic Volume Rekey Reached

Jan 12, 2010

We have several site-to-site IPSec VPN's setup.

All are running on ASA's 8.2(1).

All have a Security Association Lifetime (Time) of 8 hours.
All have a Security Association Lifetime (Traffic Volum) of 4608000 KiloBytes.

We have an issue when we do Oracle logshipping between the sites.

This triggers the Traffic Volume rekey as can be seen by this entry in the logs: -

%ASA-7-702307: IPSEC: An inbound L2L SA (SPI= 0x169FA1C1) between and (user= ) is rekeying due to data rollover.

However it does not appear as if the renegotiation is occurring properly. Within 10 to 15 minutes data stops being transmitted along the link, even though the IPSec tunnel still appears up in the ASDM GUI.

The 'fix' for this is that we are using is to login to the ASDM GUI and bounce the link by going to Monitoring => VPN => VPN Statistics => Sessions => IPSec Site-to-Site. Then select the appropriate VPN tunnel and click on 'Logout'. This forces a link renegotiation which works fine.

I have attached a logfile from the local ASA (there's nothing in the logfile of the remote ASA until we bounce the VPN tunnel).

All the traffic coming from the hosts connected to the CLIENT-router is sent over the VPN (no split tunnel). Everything works perfectly. The only problem is the amount of time the VPN takes to establish the first connection between the two routers. In particular it takes about two minutes. tell me if this amount of time can be reduced (with a partcular configuration instruction)? Or this is the minimum amount of time required for the first connection establishment?

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Reduce Controllers Overall Footprint

Aug 12, 2012

I'm looking into upgrading our 4400 series controller to 5508's.  Currently we have a few sites that have 8-9 4404 100AP controllers and I'm looking to condense these down to either 3 5508-500 or 5 5508-250 depending on cost.  I'm wondering what a good port to AP ratio is for controllers with licenses that can handle over 100 AP's.  I know the general rule of thumb is 25 AP's per port, but that seems to me to be 4400 way of thinking.  I'm trying to also reduce the controllers overall footprint, i.e. ports on the uplink switch, power consumption, rack space etc.
