Jan 26, 2011I am administrating a wireless network consisting of 11 APs, ASA 5510, WLC 4402 and Router 1760.The network is sharing an internet connection to all guests without charge so I have no need for authorisation of guests.I would like to implement a splash page that would be shown to all clients when they first connect. The splash page is supposed have only the basic information about the provided service and no logon.Is there a way to do this without purchasing an ACS?

On the wlc I use the p2p blocking action 'drop' [URL] to isolate the clients from each other. Does only unicast traffic is blocked or also multicast and broadcast traffic like arp requests?Concerning blocking p2p traffic of clients connected to the same ssid but different controllers I found the following statement in the LAP FAQs [URL]
Q. In autonomous APs, Public Secure Packet Forwarding (PSPF) is used to avoid client devices associated to this AP from inadvertently sharing files with other client devices on the wireless network. Is there any equivalent feature in Lightweight APs?
A. The feature or the mode that performs the similar function of PSPF in lightweight architecture is called peer-to-peer blocking mode. Peer-to-peer blocking mode is actually available with the controllers that manage the LAP. If this mode is disabled on the controller (which is the default setting), it allows the wireless clients to communicate with each other through the controller. If the mode is enabled, it blocks the communication between clients through the controller. It only works among the APs that have joined to the same controller. When enabled, this mode does not block wireless clients terminated on one controller from the ability to get to wireless clients terminated on a different controller, even in the same mobility group.
what's the best practise to prevent this inter wlc client traffic? I already read about using acls on the wlc dynamic interfaces, or private vlans on the l2 switch vlans where the dynamic interfaces are connected to. Is it allowed to completely isolate the wlc from each other on these dynamic interfaces with acls or private vlans or do the wlc need to see each other on this interfaces (e.g. heart beat)?

Apr 17, 2012I have a server connected to my router with a CAT5. I usually manage the server from my laptop connected to the router via WLAN. I often need to add files to a public folder on the server so it can be dowloaded by my clients when they need them. I can access my personal laptop from the server, but I cannot access the server's files from my laptop. This is recent and used to work fine. I also cannot acces other personal computers on my network that I often connect to

Jul 23, 2012I have a Cisco Series 4400 WLAN controller and I'm trying to connect a lightweight AP to the controller. I have already assigned the switch port to use my wi-fi VLAN, and have connected the AP to the switch. After a few minutes, the light on the AP goes from green to light blue (indicating it's serving clients). When I log into he wi-fi controller to look for the Ethernet mac address of the new AP, I do not see its Mac Address. I want to be able to rename the AP to reflect where it will be used, but need to select the AP via its Ethernet mac address before I can make any edits like changing its name etc. I've gone through the "monitoring" menu, selected "All" and still do not see it in their via its MAC address. I also will select the "wireless menu" which lists all the AP's on my network, listing in order from on the longest running, to just powered on.Is there something I'm missing like a "re-scan" that scan's all devices?

May 11, 2011I have my wlc 4400 configured with a secure wlan and a guest wlan. The guest wlan is switching traffic at the wlc to a separate guest-wlan interface. When a guest is associated and authenticated, they can access the management console of the wlc which is in a different subnet. As I understand, the wlc does not route traffic. So how could this be happening? the guest subnet and the subnet the wlc management interface is in are different and separated by a firewall. I have also tried applying access lists in the wlc to each interface without luck. How can i stop the wlc from providing access to guest wlan users?

We also use a freeware solution to have some graphs (collect by SNMP), namely for: Clients per AP, Noise and Interference, Channel Util, etc.
My question is about collect (by SNMP) the traffic (inOctets,outOctets) by access point, to have traffic utilization for both Radio (A and B/G) and ethernet interfaces of each access point... I can't find it on the MIBs... It´s possible?

Dec 22, 2011We have a several cisco 4400 wireless controllers and a cisco WLC. All clients autheticate to an AAA server. Acces points are cisco LWAP 1242. Security is PEAP TKIP ms-chap. Machine and user authetication. Settings are pushed out through grou policy. A new user can log on to a laptop (without cached credetials) and get all their network settings....most of the time. Randomly we have laptops that after being restarted, recieve "yourdomain.com is not availalbe" error message. The laptops will work fine for weeks and then random laptops start to get this error. If we wire them into the network, run a gpupdate, they logon fine. Shutdown, unplug, and the wireless works fine again.. I am not sure if this is an ms group policy issue or a wireless issue. Any setting change or a gp setting that I may have missed??

May 20, 2012I recently upgraded our controllers to the latest version 7 software, as I read this was one of the requirements to get them to connect. But I am not having any luck getting into a controller. Normally I plug them in to the network, they pop into the controller listed as something like AP5057.a844.xxxx and then I can finish configuring them, but a static IP on them, etc. This is the first of this model AP I have tried to deploy, so I am wondering what is different with these. or what I might be missing in the default config in the WLAN controllers. Niether of which are set to "Master" either.

I have found many well meaning suggestions to resolve this annoying aspect of networking between Windows 7, Vista and XP but it seems like we are all banging our heads against a brick wall. I have tried every suggestion I can find on other forums but still my Windows 7 computer cannot access my XP Home or Vista machines. The message I see each time I try is as follows:- "\WINXP (or \VISTA) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. The account is not authorised to log in from this station." You will of course appreciate that the 'administrator' is myself. I can access files and a printer on Windows 7 from the other two computers providing I place shared files in the public folder ... no problem with this.
I have checked that all three computers have the same Workgroup Name. Yes, I have got Network Discovery turned on. Yes, I have turned on file and printer sharing. Yes, I have turned off Password protected sharing (and tried it turned on). Yes, I have set my network location to Work network. Yes, the computers I am trying to access do show in my network window ... each and everyone of them can be pinged from each other. I even have a little utility called Wireless Network Watcher that shows that the IP addresses, MAC addresses and each computer by name can be seen on the network.

May 7, 2011I have one laptop (Windows Vista) and one PC (Windows 7) in my house and I am trying to share folders between them. The problem is I can access my laptop's files from my pc, but I can't access my pc's files from my laptop.
And when I go to Network and Sharing Center, on "View your active networks" part, I click joined to give check mark on Pictures, Music, Videos, Documents, and Printers (the default setting: only printers that got checked). After I checked those all, I click "Save changes". But, if I go back to click "Joined" It was set as default, it is like it doesn't save my setting.

Apr 27, 2012I have a Cisco 1841 router that is connected to a switch. I have WAN/LAN configured on the router and the switch is handing out internal IP's. The issus that none of the client machines can access the Internet. From within the router console, I am able to ping external domain names, my ISP DNS servers.
Once the client machines picks up an IP they are unable to ping any external domain names or IP's and not even the ISP DNS servers, but they can ping the Cisco router IP. As a note I have tried my ISP DNS servers and as a test Google's DNS servers, but neither will allow access to the Internet.

Cisco VPN :: 5510 VPN Clients Can't Access DMZ Network
Mar 22, 2012The title says VPN clients cannot access DMZ network, but that is not exactly the problem, the situation is this, a group of users are using an actual 10.x network where they have their servers and pretty much everything. The users must be relocated into a new network, the 172.16.x. In a point in time they will not have to use 10.x anymore, but meanwhile, they need access to that network.
I have an ASA 5510 as default gateway for the new network (172.16.x.x), one interface e0/0 connected to the outside (internet), interface e0/1 to the inside and other interface connected to the actual 10.x (which I call DMZ), so basically I am using the ASA as a bridge using NAT to grant access to the users in the network 172.16.x to the resources in the 10.x network while the migration is completed.
All the users must use the path to the internet thru the ASA using the NAT overload to the outside interface and I put in place a NAT policy to 10.x to allow access to the 10.x network only when the internal users 172.16.x try to reach that path and so far, everything is working just fine for the internal users.Now for some reason, when I do VPN, the VPN clients cannot reach the 10.x network, even when they are supposed to be in the internal network (because they are doing VPN right?) .
I have enabled split tunneling with NAT exempt the 172.16 network and I am not sure if that is causing the problem, because when I trace from my PC the 172.16.16.1 address using the VPN I get the proper route path, but when I try to reach 10.x, my PC is using its default gateway and not the VPN gateway which has a route to 10.x.
I’m not even sure if what I am trying to do is possible, I want VPN users to be able to access a 10.x network using NAT overload with the Interface of the ASA plugged to the 10.x network, just like the internal users are doing right now.

Can't Access Shared Files On Server From Network Computers
Apr 15, 2011Have a server linked to four computers and a laptop for a business and can't seem to access shared files on server from other computers as it keeps asking for username and password to access it. Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.
