We run a small school and one of our campus sites is quite remote and our internet provider chares big dollars for internet downloads.One of our classes has just been upgraded to run over the internet and involves downloading 6Gig of video each time it is run. This will cost us approximatly $15 for each student and we have hunreds of student. We provide computers for this course work.

gige0/0 dhcp static IP from ISP, public IP, they assign me 4 more usable public IPs gige0/1 broken into four VLANS, 108, 109, 120, 127, ip nat on 109 for them to get to the internet, and a static translation on 127 for the phone system to get to the internet gige0/2 assigned another public IP. A tenent has a linksys router on this interface, they want a public IP.
The problem is that this setup worked, but when we moved to the 2911, some nat translations are failing, and we would like to figure out how to minimize the number of public IPs we use (right now it is three + the static assigned dhcp). The nat that is not working is the nats to the 2001-3001 range. I am not sure why it is failing, but the router seems to indicate it thinks some of these overlap. This router is also doing a vpn to an asa... that seems to be working fine.

My ISP says that I'm going over my bandwidth allowance and that's because in my household, we are hardcore gamers, netflix, and internet users. Recently i am running out of bandwidth, and what i am looking for is a freeware that i can install in one of the computers that could tell me which IP or MAC address used how much internet.I have read several articles: some articles point me to softwares which only monitor the computer that they are installed. The Tech School System's IT Department has a fiber wan between the schools that allows communication between these units. We wanted to interconnect the unit's Active Directory's with Trusts or by combining them into one forest. However I am wondering How much bandwidth that alone would require? There make be some file access between units but not on a daily basis since the units are separate from one another. How much bandwidth do you think this would require?

I'm trying to find a router OS that logs bandwidth by ips on the lan. I tried untangle and clearos neither of which have a feature (or one that I can find) that logs the bandwidth by ip. Apparently pfsense has a package you can install but I have never been able to get pfsense to work on this pc, it always errors in one way or another (on the 2.0rc3 I can't access the web page, it says it is missing a file).

hardware version is WR841N v8.wireless works just fine. i use it for my smartphone and an old laptop. i use ethernet cable to connect to main computer where all is ok until i start using my bit torrent client. as soon as i build up traffic above 1MB the ethernet portion of the router freezes and needs a reboot. when frozen, wireless is still working and i still have access on the lan to the router via my browser. i got this router so i could have wifi for my phone. my old router (asus rx3041) worked just fine and i accessed my isp at the maximum speeds it would allow on a 60 gigabit connection.
ATT is now charging extra whenever I get get over 150 gb a month...what can I do to minimize the junk that comes onto my computer against my will?

however recently when i check my internet usage log on my wireless company (Rogers) the usage is totally off from what my bandwidth tracker shows me. So i decide to turn off my wifi and see what happens, there has always been this weird wifi connection appearing whenever my wifi appears, then afterwards when i turn off my wifi the suspicious wifi connections disappear. is this possible that someone is using our wifi? i might just be overreacting but it has brought me to concern that if the usage continues my family will have to end up paying over $30 for extra internet use. it is very frustrating me because when i check my DHCP client table it only shows 3 connection, ethernet - my desktop which is not turned on, 2 wireless connection - my laptop and my sister's laptop.

It has been working very fine for all these years (6), but now I hear static disturbances in my phone calls, and so I decided to do port forwarding for the vonage device, to minimize the noise. This device uses a static ip address of 192.168.15.1, and in the Linksys software, I am not able to use any ip addresses other than "192.168.1.*" in the port forwarding page.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old computer (Dell gx280) that has a external usb 2.0 hard drive connected to it. I was trying to copy the files over a gigabit network connection to another computer and it was only transferring at approx. 2.5 megabytes a second. This was only using a small fraction of the gigabit network card in both the source and destination computer. I saw the CPU was maxed out on the source PC b/c of an application. Once I quit that application the CPU usage went back to essentially nothing. The copy job then jumped up to 14 megabytes a second and was using 30-35% of the gigabit connection.
The NIC and the USB ports are on the motherboard. How did the CPU usage slow this whole process down and was it impacting the network card, the USB port or both?
I just have an experience to relate. I was provided the Cisco DPC 3825 unit for my home by my ISP. I couldn't get a strong enough signal to reach my smart tv about 50 to 60 away from the unit, which is in my office for computer uses. I purchased a Netgear extender to extend the signal. I was having trouble connecting the extender to the Cisco unit and get an internet connection. So I phoned my ISP and was told by the person on the phone that their Cisco unit cannot connect to this extender.
I found out that the Cisco unit was set to hidden by my son. After changing this setting I was able to easily connect the Netgear extender to the Cisco unit and get internet and a strong enough signal to my smart tv.
We have a network of 20 computers here at work. We recently moved from using Outlook to Gmail for our email service. That change appears to have triggered a problem. No more than 5 computers at any given time can acccess the internet now.

I've been having a bit of a problem lately trying to play Battlefield 3 on my PS3 when other computers are running on my network.
I'm looking for a program or method to set bandwidth limits on some devices to try to guarantee the PS3 enough bandwidth to play without lagging.
With the research I have done what I can find is that there is something called Quality of Service (QoS), and traffic shaping -- which are good and fine but I don't believe my Westell router supports them and I don't want to have to do anything crazy with my router.
Also I am currently dual booting Ubuntu Linux alongside Windows XP, and I don't have XP set up because I want to install Windows 7 on that partition once I can read DVDs (in the hardware forum), therefor I would really like to find a Linux program that I can use to shape my network traffic.
Tier 2 and tier 3 purchase from tier 1 provider ,but how is bandwidth produced i mean how tier 1 provider gets bandwidth. and why tier 1 doesn't have to pay.
