Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / Administrative Control On L3 Switch For DHCP Service

Sep 25, 2012

My Network Layout is as,  Firewall (with Routing)------>Cisco 3560 Switch (L3)------> connected 8 Cisco 2960 switch (L2)----> all users I have configured 20 VLAN's on cisco 3560 switch with Dynamic Pool and Static, Means, 5 Vlan's are Dynamic and remaining are Static Our Company process provides only internet access to existing clients computers. Problem is that, I configured Static VLAN 5 for one of our Client in their seperate room, mean to say, i activated all ports of their room with Static VLAN 5. one day they configured own DHCP server on Windows 2003 Server with same subnet (Same as VLAN5) in their room without any information and now their all computer/ Laptop acquiring ip address Dynamically.

If i have configured Static vlan on that port's then how it is get Dynamic ip from same port's.How to restrict to permit another DHCP server/Service in our premises. I Do not want to give administrative control to Clients to do such kind of thing with LAN.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3550 - Copy IOS To Switch In ROMmon Mode?

Jan 24, 2012

I have a 3550 switch that was replaced at a remote site with no IOS. This is a switch not a router so tftpdnld does not work.

[Code]...

The problem is the switches interface never comes up so try to connect to the tftp server. I read on google it can't be done on a switch to copy from tftp to flash in rommon mode on a switch and to use XMODEM. My problem is I do not have access to it, I ssh into a 3640 which is an access server for all devices and that is how I have console to it, how to use XMODEM over ssh.

But I'm fairly certain that there has to be a way to just copy it from tftp? I have a 3550 local and when I put it in rommon mode it stops the port check at port, port 1 goes from green when you plug it in to off then port 2 changes to amber and the rest green. So just by the look of this I would believe tftp would work; you just need to use port 1.

Cisco LAN :: 3560 Cannot Ping After Moving PC From Switch To Switch

Apr 15, 2013

I have a 2 cisco switches that are at different sites one is a Cisco CAT4500 and other 3560. The connection between the switches is a layer 2 fibre link. CAT4500 and 3560 both have VLAN interface ip addresses in order for me to connect to the switches.

I have PC A connected to CAT4500 and PC B connecting to 3560. All these devices are the same VLAN and in the same subnet. I do have trunk links all the way though allowing this vlan as we run vlans. From PC A, I can ping CAT4500, 3560 and even PC B. This tells me everything is fine regarding Layer 2 & 3.

As soon as I move PC B and connect it to the other switch CAT4500 or move the other PC vice versa (this happens in both directions). Both switches learn that the mac address has moved locations and updates its mac address table accordingly. So when I do a show mac address table and show arp, everything has learned and moved fine. However when I try to ping any other device from PC B I cannot. So the 3560 switch PC B was originally connected to, I can no longer ping, the switch cannot see the pc also. It is as if PC B has not learned anything from the switch and cannot respond or reply to any icmp. I have tried this with different end devices, same thing. I am now thinking it has something to do with the switch.

Cisco WAN :: Catalyst 3550 Switch Routed Interface

Feb 21, 2011

we are using the catalyst 3550 L3 for BGP routing. For e.g. Gi 0/4 is our internal interface tha we want "switch".

We need on Gi 0/5 the same network that is on gi 0/4.

How is it possible?  Make it like a 2 port mini switch. Or make a bridge of these 2 interfaces without any complicated reconfiguration needed?

Cisco WAN :: 3550 Port Forward Down Through Layer 3 Switch

Aug 18, 2011

I'm looking at implementing a cisco 3550 Layer 3 switch and would like to know if i can forward ports down to all of my different Subnet Servers/Pc's.

For example. See attached image.10.0.3.5 is a mail server. 4.2.2.2 is our public IP.

I would like to forward TCP port 25 down to our Mail servers IP. Any reason this will not work by using the cisco 3550? Currently we have a flat network (1 subnet) and port forwarding works fine.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: GLC-GE-100FX - Connection To 3550 Switch Over MMF

May 21, 2012

i have an OM1 MMF fiber run between two switches, the first being a 3750 and the second being a 3550.

The link currently exceeds the maximum distance for OM1 @ 1000Mb/s (220m) so i would like to downgrade the link to 100FX using the necessary SFP's/GBIC's to extend the maximum distance to 550m and run the link @ 100Mb/s.

I have the part code for the 100FX SFP to install in the 3750 (GLC-GE-100FX) but cant find a 100FX GBIC for the 3550, can I use a 1000SX GBIC (WS-G5484) for the 3550 at one end and the 100FX SFP at the other? Any success with this configuration over MMF?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Port Unreachable Messages On 3550 Switch?

Jan 24, 2012

While working at a client site today, I was troubleshooting some ICMP connectivity for a network we have created.I turned on 'debug ip icmp" on the 3550 switch int he middle, and was inundated with the following debug output:

Jan 25 11:01:14.641: ICMP: dst (172.16.1.7) port unreachable rcv from 172.16.1.5
Jan 25 11:01:14.641: ICMP: dst (172.16.1.7) port unreachable rcv from 172.16.1.5
Jan 25 11:01:14.641: ICMP: dst (172.16.1.7) port unreachable rcv from 172.16.1.5
Jan 25 11:01:14.641: ICMP: dst (172.16.1.7) port unreachable rcv from 172.16.1.5

[code]....

This output fires several times a second, and based on how often it is firing, I am curious if it may be a culprit with respect to the fact that the client has indicated that they have some slow internet.Should the next step be to look at the workstation at 172.16.1.5?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Changing Native Vlan On 3550 Switch

Dec 22, 2012

I am having trouble after creating a management vlan (99) on a 3550 switch.I have configured the vlan (99) and given it an IP (192.168.1.100) and a default gateway (my router address - 192.168.1.99).I can ping to the switch from a PC and vice versa. The management VLAN IP is fine but now I cannot ping to the router from either the PC or the switch. It seems that just by adding VLAN 99 with it's own IP address has now prevented pings from the switch/ PC to the router ?Due to the fact that I have created a new switch management VLAN with an IP, does this mean I have set up the router as a 'router on a stick' scenario ? Cisco Switching/Routing :: Internet Access For 3550 Switch VLANs?

Feb 22, 2012

I have a small cisco switch cluster (seven different 2924, 3524cisco switches) with 3550 as a cluster control which does all the inter vlan routing that works fine.

This cluster is in semi production PBX interop testing lab. This is a closed network without internet access and not connected to our corporate network. However now I have to add this capability so some equipment in the lab can get Microsoft updates over the internet.

I've created a port on a 3550 (fa0/19) and connected it to another network that has internet access. It picked an ip address and when I'm logged in to the 3550 I can ping hosts on the outside network. However I can't ping any hosts on that network from any hosts that are connected to my vlans.I've tried a few different things, but still can't make it to work.

Here is a short version of my 3550 configuration:

!
version 12.2
no service pad
service timestamps debug uptime
service timestamps log datetime
no service password-encryption

Cisco Wireless :: 1142 LAP In Operational Status (Down)?

Nov 1, 2012

The last three new APs I have received from our supplier (official Cisco 1142 LAPs) have all successfully connected to our 4400 series WLCs but are all reporting as being in an Operational Status of 'Down' ie their A/B/G/N radios are not broadcasting even though the APs are all in an enabled state. Furthermore, there is no steady green light showing on the APs - there is no light showing whatsoever (although they were displaying the familiar red-orange-green lights while they were pulling down the IOS images from the WLCs).

The only strange thing I have noticed is that in the AP config screen, the ‘Mini IOS version’ is shown as being v7.3.x. The other – working APs – we have of the 1142 series show v3.x. I know that controller code v7.2 and above only work with the newer 5500 and 7500 series WLCs. Could this be the issue and have any of you seen this issue previously? I am running WLC code v7.0.230.0.
