View 2 RepliesWe have two 6500 core switches and one(primary) of them is running in VTP transparesnt mode and the other (secondary) one is running in VTP client mode. I would like to change the VTP mode of the second switch to transparent mode. Would it cause any issue. I guess i have to create VLANs onto the switch.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe following discussion is based on cisco cat 6500 switches with two power supplies: p1 and p2. . Both power supplies are running in combined mode .Each power supplies is rated with 500 watts max( I just picked 500 watts for simplicity)Combined mode In combined mode, each power supply provides approximately 83% of its capacity to the chassis. This allows for greater utilization of the power supplies and potentially increased PoE densities
1) Let say our specific 6500 switch's configuration requires 1000 watts. We have two power supplies p1 and p2 ,each with rated power of 500 watts. Both power supplies must operate in combined mode. Will power supplies be able to meet the total load power requirement of 1000 watts?
Here is my understanding :The maximum power delivered by each power supplies is 83 percent of its rated power, assuming power supplies are running in combined mode.
So Maximum power delivered by power supplies
= 83% of p1+ 83% of p2
= 83% of 500 + 83% of 500
= 415 +415
=830 watts
Thus the required load of 1000 watts can not be met by our power supplies in combined mode.
2 )Suppose our switch's switch configuration needs 500 watts. Again our power supplies each rated with 500 watts, are configured for combined mode. How much power is being delivered by each power supply? Is it 83 percent of the total load i.e 500 watts?
I have one cisco 4507R+E.My question is if the IOS of the acive SUP crushed and the switch is running through it's second SUP then how to restore the IOS of the first SUP.Also how to access the ROMON mode of the crushed SUP when switch is running through second SUP.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have cisco 7600 Router with 76-ES+XT-4TG3C Module connected. The Module is getting detected after upgrading the Router with SRD5 IOS.Below are the testing which we have done on the Router but we are facing the issue while configuring the Transport mode LAN and Transport Mode WAN:Brief about this is:- 2 Cisco 7606-s Router with Module 76-ES+XT-4TG3C each.- two ports on 7606-s Ten2/1 & Ten2/2 are configured as a Transport mode WAN while Ten2/3 & Ten2/4 are configured as Transport mode LAN.- We connect Fiber Cable from LAN Port to MUX and from MUX to 2nd LAN Port of the same Router. Same thing we tested by using the WAN Port-MUX-WAN Port connection.- Now on MUX end LAN port, connected Single and Multi mode fiber and on 7606 end 2/4 port which is configured as transport mode LAN, using Multimode SFP module -> XFP-10G-MM-SR, port did not came up then replaced 2/4 port with single mode SFP ->XFP-10GLR-OC192SR port came up. this is testing for LAN.- For WAN testing on MUX end used WAN port and on 7606 end checked with single mode and multimode fiber and with single XFP-10GLR-OC192SR / mulimode XFP-10G-MM-SR SFP, port did not come up.Wanted to know 1) If we have to go for Transport Mode LAN then which SFP/XSFP Module should go with along with the Single/Multimode Fiber.2) If we have to go for Transport Mode WAN then which SFP/XSFP Module should go with along with the Single/Multimode Fiber.Anything else is required while configuring the Transport Mode WAN as this is for Packet-Over_SONET/SDH? 3) MUX Side change is required while connecting both of this Modes on Cisco 7600 Router.4) Is hardware of the Router is giving any issue? Though we tested by connecting Back to Back LAN Port as well as Back to Back WAN Port. In both the situation the Ports are coming UP.

1. Could i use two core switch 6500 with single mode fiber as a transport equipment?
2. Or i need to use SDH equipment because of the distance concern? If so do i need a repeater?Could i use Cisco Metro Core ONS, which one?
3. Any other option to achieve this requirement?
The switch SG500X-48 has 4 SFP+ ( 10G ) ports - XG1, XG2, XG3/S1, XG4/S2 - and two configuration modes - standalone and "native stacking".
Can I use XG1 and XG2 SFP+ ports to connect servers when "Native stacking" mode is active ?

I have replaced my main router WRT300N running dd-wrt with the a stock E4200 and an old WRT54G aslo running dd-wrt configured for wireless client bridge. Now that I'm learning more about 802.11N, I was wondering what client can I use to achieve 5ghz simultaneously radio transmission since my current setup cannot do this in the 5ghz band. Can the E3000 be ran in wireless client bridge mode, if not what product can provide this? On the other thought am I understanding MIMO?

I am trying to determine the best way to setup my E4200 V2 so that it is “uplinked” correctly to a Comcast Dory Modem/router. Currently we have the E4200 V2 router plugged into the Comcast Dory Modem/Router using a CAT6 cable from one of the Ethernet ports on the Comcast device to the WAN port on the E4200. The E4200 is set to “Automatic Configuration - DHCP.”
We are trying to do two things. First better WIFI in the center of the house and for a TV located next to the Comcast device, and second, have all devices in this house see and access all other devices including the Samsung SmartTV, my son’s two systems upstairs, the 3 systems in the room with the E4200, and the one network printer. In the room with the E4200 we have 3 computers and one network printer. 3 of those 4 devices support WIFI so we don’t have to use all 4 Ethernet ports on the E4200.
I see others talking about running the CAT6 cable to an Ethernet port on the E4200 instead of the WAN port and setting it to “Bridge Mode.” Right now the system appears to be working fine although we are sometimes experiencing brief dropped connections with the devices hardwired into the E4200.
Should I be running the E4200 in “Bridge” mode or “Automatic DHCP” mode and which port on E4200 should the CAT6 from Comcast be plugged into?
I am facing problem with 7600-ES+20G3C card / Any system reset will change the system operating mode
View 2 Replies View RelatedI currently have frontier dsl internet and am using the isp provided modem/router combo and a DIR-655. I have the modem running in bridge mode and the 655 set to PPPoe connection, MTU at 1492. I confirmed the MTU setting on the isp modem/router before bridging it. The question i have is if the router MTU is set to 1492 does everything on the LAN side of the router run at 1492 or does it run at 1500 while the router breaks the packets up? Everything works fine but my pc's all use vista and i'm not sure where to check the mtu settings at and all my game consoles are set to mtu automatic so i can't really see what they're running at either.
View 7 Replies View RelatedIn an IPSec port to DUT scenario, with Mode-Config set so as the DUT sends the IP address to the port, I get to a situation in which the DUT continuously enter the "Need config/address" state for the port, even if the port sends its ACK packet to every set IP address from the DUT.
The DUT is a Cisco 6500 Version 12.2 (33) SXI3, having Mode-Configuration configured to provide clients with IP addresses from a local pool. I enabled the "debug crypto isakmp" on Cisco, and below is an extract form the log file:
5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653):Need config/address /* My comments here: This is the first Address configuration message from Cisco to port */

5d23h: ISAKMP:(80653):Old State = IKE_P1_COMPLETE New State = IKE_CONFIG_MODE_SET_SENT
above debug messages that Cisco produces I can not realize why Cisco resends the IP adderss configuration message for remote peer. Any other methods to use so as to get the reason behind this behavior? Or any explanation to the above behavior?
I am trying to have a setup where the AP running in autonomous mode also act dhcp server for the wireless clients. The only thing is that the vlan is switched across to the wired network.
So basically i am having 2 vlans, one for mgmt and other for data (for wireless clients) and both vlans are trunked to the switch.

I'm working at a company that has several 6509 switches running CatOS. They have two of the 6509's running in vtp server mode and the rest as clients. I set up a new vlan from one of the vtp servers and it propagated out. The problem comes when I try to assign a port on one of the vtp clients to this new vlan. It gives me an error that the switch must be in vtp server mode to add/delete vlans. I'm not trying to add/or delete a vlan just trying to add a port into an existing vlan. I'm hesitant to put the switch in vtp server mode. Is this a CatOS thing or is there a specific command to accomplish this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe have two 6500s. One is running in power redundant mode and the other is running in combined mode.We need to change the one running in combined mode to redundant mode to ensure it can run ok on one supply if needed but I have a couple of questions.
1. Assuming that we are not oversubscribed on the power allocated, does changing the mode cause any disruption?
2. The switch running in combined mode seems to have allocated some power for an "Inline Local-Pwr-Pool" which is not allocated on the switch running in redundant mode (see attached). Does this allocation will be needed if we change the power mode?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got an ASA 5510 system currently in single context mode, with CSC SSM installed. Single ISP uplink to internet, no VPN. And now customer would like add another ISP uplink, without invest another box for HA.What come across my mind is make the current box into multi context. There's some area i need to concern and also need yours perspective on it.
Question 1: For making the firewall into multi context, am i need to do it from scratch, issue mode multiple command. Then rebuilt the current production config into one of the context, then another context meant for the new IPS uplink, and one admin context?
Question 2: For CSC -SSM licensing requirement, model ASA 5510 with security plus license is able to support 2 context. So if i split my firewall like what i mention in question, what exactly number of context do i own (admin, context A, context B)?
Question 3: For CSC-SSM module in multi context mode, so the management port of CSC SSM must attach at admin context?
Question 4: After configured all the policy and traffic to scan, how exactly i should do in order apply this policy to the interface? Should i only enable at admin context, then firewall service-policy rules, and apply it global, OR should i also do the same action on context A and Context B?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI received the following info from Cisco's TAC and wanted to inquire further before I start reconfiguring the switch:
In a redundant Sup-6E setup, the following configuration is supported :
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
If you invoke shared backplane mode, the following configuration can also be supported:
- 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 TenGig uplink(blocking) on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
Here's the command and information about the "shared-backplane" mode :- [URL]
Currently, we have 2 SUP 6-Es(Module 5 - Active and Module 6 - Stand-by) setup in a redundent mode. I am planning on changing the redundent mode to the shared backplane mode so I can use 2 TenGig converters to uplink 2 access-switches. We purchased 2 TenGig converters and here is how I am planning on using them:
1- One will be used to uplink to two 3750 switches(stacked)
2- One will be used to uplink to a 2960 using a Gig SFP
My questions are:
1- Do I have to install the 2 TenGig converters(4-Gig Uplinks) in the same Module? Or can I use one one in module 5 and the second one in module 6?
2- Will changing the redundant mode to the shared backplane mode require rebooting the switch or disrupt the funtionality of the other linecards?
Do we have Option to add MAC address of specific laptop or Mobile to connect to the Access Point in cisco Aironet AP 1260 series in Autonmous mode

The new module already has the same IOs version as the standby supervisor.Once I have swapped the module how do I know that the config has sync'd correctly other than checking the logs? Is it a case of looking at the "Redundancy Mode (Operational)" state and ensuring is says SSO?Also, is there a command that will force a config-sync if it is running in a mode other than SSO?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a very flat network. All of the gateways/SVI's exist on the same 6500. There are some vBrick IPTV servers that have a unicast address and 2-3 multicast addresses configured. After rebooting the 6500, the ip pim sparse-mode we had on all of our SVI's no longer work. I checked the old config and everything is the same as before I rebooted it. I troubleshot this for a while and found that the only way I can make this work now is if I enable ip sparse-dense on the SVI's. I believe this means that dense is the multicast method being used and I don't want to use dense mode because of all the flooding. How might I be able to make ip pim sparse-mode work again? I never had a static RP configured but I think I will need to. How do I decide on what ip address on the 6500 I should use as the RP? Should the ip address of the RP be a loopback address on the 6500 or should it be the SVI gateway ip of the vlan that the vBrick IPTV servers are on?
