Reduce Wireless Speed To Particular Device?

Jun 12, 2012

I have a D-link Gigabit wireless router which works great but 1 particular wireless device of mine functions/works faster when i have a 100mbps Ethernet connection to it. Is it possible to slow down the wireless speed to a particular device?

Ideally i want my router to continue functioning as normal but i can't afford to have a 20m Cat5 cable running from my router through my hallway and into the living area. I want to slow the connection down to 100mbs for this one device.

One Device Won't Connect To Home Wireless Network

Jul 2, 2012

I recently upgraded my wireless router from D-Link DIR-615 to D-Link DIR-685. Before the changeover, all of my devices were connecting to the router, although I had several problems with dropped connections, etc. The devices in use were:

- Desktop computer
- Laptop computer
- All-in-one touchscreen computer
- Netbook
- iPhone (original model)
- HP TouchPad tablet
- Sony Blu-Ray player
- Two internet radios (Aluratek and Livio)
- Wii

ALL of these devices were connected wirelessly to the network. When I set up the new router, I used a different network name/SSID, but kept the same security key/password. All of the router settings were kept the same (e.g., WPA-2, etc.). After the new router was up and running, every single one of the devices listed above connected (after an initial setup with the new network name, of course) EXCEPT the All-in-one/touchscreen computer. I've tried over and over, and it refuses to accept the security key/password. (The desktop, laptop, and touchscreen are all running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.) After doing some research, I tried some suggested solutions, but nothing seems to work. Nothing on the problem computer has changed since it was last connected to the old router. I checked the "Properties" of the network device on both the Desktop (which has no problems connecting) and the Touchscreen, and they are identical: WPA-2, AES, etc. And I'm 100% positive I'm entering the security key correctly. I've rebooted the router and the computer several times.

Home Network :: Wireless Loses Speed Over Time (at College)

Oct 25, 2011

Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.

This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00

It is a Broadcom Wireless N...

What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.

Home Network :: Use Access Point As Main Network Device

Aug 15, 2012

I currently have a BT Home Hub 3 router and an Ubiquiti Power AP N.What I am trying to do is use the Ubiquiti access point as the main device for all connections in my house (ethernet and wireless) so that I can use the QoS settings etc. I basically want the Home Hub router to play as little role as possible in the network except for providing the ADSL internet connection.I know I need to enable DHCP on the access point but everytime I do so the devices connected to the access point lose internet connection.(BTW I have an ethernet cable connected from one of the routers LAN ports into the access point's WAN port)

Home Network :: Public IP On A LAN Device (in Front Of Router)

Mar 19, 2011

I have a video conferencing device that uses a lot of ports and is very bandwidth intensive. I have been messing around with two routers (cheap ISP Thomson and my Netgear DGND3300v2) settings for a couple of months now and I couldn't get it to work properly (ports were getting blocked randomly). I have recently discovered that Netgear has a "secret" page where you can switch the router to a modem mode. I gave the device a public IP and now it works fine (at least so it seems for now). The thing is, I need to connect another device (my PC) to the device via web interface for monitoring purposes. I am wondering what network arrangement would be best for me. I want the video device to have nothing to do with natting or firewalls at all, I want it to have a public IP. However, I also want to be able to connect to it somehow and also share the connection with my PC.

Home Network :: Getting Very Slow Speed Of Between 10-15Mbps?

Nov 17, 2011

I have a homeplug network as follows:

6x 85Mbps homeplugs in different rooms, each connected to a 5 port switch

2x rooms contain a PC

5x rooms contain a Squeezebox of various types

Router connected to homeplug

I have realised that I am only getting very slow network speeds of between 10-15Mbps (LAN SPeed Test)which affects Squeezebox's ability to play several devices synched up at a time playing 320Kbps MP3s

I have done some proprietory testing in my home by switching devices on & off & testing network speed accordingly but no significant gains seem to be made. One PC seems to report far lower speeds though at 5Mbps which is 3 times lower than the other PC. They are set up to read/write files from eachothers shared folders (but not simultaneously).1st question is, am I being realistic about the speed of data throughput I expect on a network of this type? I was expecting a much higher speed like 50Mbps.I wouldn't mind investing in the faster Homeplug system but having to buy 6x adapters isn't worth it if I will only get a marginal improvement.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Connection Speed On Device Stays 72BPS

Apr 8, 2012

I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia. The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality. My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed. The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Belkin ADSL 2+ (Modem with Wireless b/g and Voip) only being used now as an ADSL Modem and VOIP service.2. Cisco linksys e 2500.3. Media centre PC which has a wired connection to linksys e 2500.4. Main PC (Connected wireless to the linksys). The network adapter is a DLINK DWA125 N150 adapter (2.4GHZ only). The distance between the wireless adapter and the wireless router is approximately 12 feet and there is direct line of sight.5. IPAD.5. Using 2.4GHZ as i dont have a 5GHZ adapter yet. Router is only on wireless N mode.I was better off using a second hand Netcomm rather than a brand new Cisco router. The cisco router has 4 internal antennas, whereas the netcomm one had only 2 external antennas. My signal strength is excellent. Only problem is the slow internal transfer between the Main PC and the Media Center PC. Main PC is Core i7 950 where as the Media Centre is a Core 2 Duo e6400GHZ with 4GB Ram. Both PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate (Main PC) , Professional (Media Centre PC). My network knowledge is decent.  Is there any settings in the advanced Wireless mode for the Linksys that can make my internal file transfers faster. [code]

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Reduce Controllers Overall Footprint

Aug 12, 2012

I'm looking into upgrading our 4400 series controller to 5508's.  Currently we have a few sites that have 8-9 4404 100AP controllers and I'm looking to condense these down to either 3 5508-500 or 5 5508-250 depending on cost.  I'm wondering what a good port to AP ratio is for controllers with licenses that can handle over 100 AP's.  I know the general rule of thumb is 25 AP's per port, but that seems to me to be 4400 way of thinking.  I'm trying to also reduce the controllers overall footprint, i.e. ports on the uplink switch, power consumption, rack space etc.

Home Network :: Advanced Home Network Setup (3 Subnets) And Port Forwarding?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc). The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:

- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface

Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range. That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.

- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.

- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.

Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.

Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)

Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).
