Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Connection Speed On Device Stays 72BPS
Apr 8, 2012
I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia. The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality. My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed. The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Belkin ADSL 2+ (Modem with Wireless b/g and Voip) only being used now as an ADSL Modem and VOIP service.2. Cisco linksys e 2500.3. Media centre PC which has a wired connection to linksys e 2500.4. Main PC (Connected wireless to the linksys). The network adapter is a DLINK DWA125 N150 adapter (2.4GHZ only). The distance between the wireless adapter and the wireless router is approximately 12 feet and there is direct line of sight.5. IPAD.5. Using 2.4GHZ as i dont have a 5GHZ adapter yet. Router is only on wireless N mode.I was better off using a second hand Netcomm rather than a brand new Cisco router. The cisco router has 4 internal antennas, whereas the netcomm one had only 2 external antennas. My signal strength is excellent. Only problem is the slow internal transfer between the Main PC and the Media Center PC. Main PC is Core i7 950 where as the Media Centre is a Core 2 Duo e6400GHZ with 4GB Ram. Both PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate (Main PC) , Professional (Media Centre PC). My network knowledge is decent. Is there any settings in the advanced Wireless mode for the Linksys that can make my internal file transfers faster. [code]

I just bought a new Linksys E2500 router from Best Buy and I need optimizing my router settings so I can get the absolute best performance out of it. Staying connected and keeping speeds high are a must.I have been noticing connections cutting out at time. It is frustrating when I lose my internet.we have ~3000 sq foot house... 3 levels (basement, first, second). We don't use all of these at the same time but we have: 2 laptops, 3 iphones, ipad, and a PS3 for online gaming.
How can I get the absolute best, most reliable connection and speeds out of my router so we don't experience disconnects?I bought the RE1000 range extender... having installed it yet because the install CD that came with it is the wrong CD (It came with the E900 install CD... which is for a router)I bought the N600 USB adapter which I guess is supposed to update your wireless card for your laptop. I am using that but bars seem low..

Is it possible with the E2500 (or some other device) to rebroadcast a wireless signal? Here's the situation, I live on a boat, I want to connect my laptop to a local wireless signal (which I pay for). I then want to connect my E2500 to the laptop via the "Internet" port on the E2500. This doesn't work? This would allow all my wireless devices to stay connected to a single connection point. When I move the boat and change the wireless connection, I only have to do it once for a single connection. Is there some way to achieve this?

I bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?

I had to change from a WRT300N wireless router which died to a new E2500. I noticed that the speed my computers report that they are connected to the wireless network connection is now 144.5 mps, versus 270 mps with the WRT300N. There is no change in location of the devices or computers. The computers use a WUSB300N adapter. Is there a setting or setup that needs to be changed?

I have a Cisco e2500 dual band router.I have a cable modem pulling down 55mps.When I put it through my router I get 22mps wireless and 55mps wired. I want my wireless speed as fast as it can go!I have changed channels, I have gone with just wireless N I have done just Mixed. I contacted customer support and they won't talk to me since I am out of warranty (I just not got internet this fast). One small caveat - when I take the channel selection off auto and change to a preffered channel my one laptop drops connection a lot. We have two laptops and both get the same speed. (No I am not running speed tests with a bunch of other things running etc)

I just bought an E2500 router, and am only getting a fraction of the speed I do by connecting without it. Both wireless and wired through the router I'm getting about 1 mbps, while without it I'm getting about 10 mbps.
I do live in an apartment, so I'd understand if there were some wireless interference going on, but would that explain away the wired issues too? I've also tried changing the channel (though only of the 2.4 GHz connection), and that's not working any.

I have Comcast cable internet routed through a linksys E3000 router. My desktop is connected to my router via ethernet and my various other devices including my laptop are wifi connected. It seems almost at random that my desktop will lose its connection.Windows will show me as still being connected and my network connection will show a normal status until I atttempt to repair it then it will change to limited or no connectivity. Through all of this, my other devices all still have a wifi signal (I don't use more than 1 or 2 at the same time). I can reconnect to the internet by unplugging my ethernet cable then reuplugging it back in and my connection will start working again. I've also had several blue screens, and when I checked the dmp files it revealed my network card driver as the culprit, yet I have reinstalled and even clean installed the microsoft signed driver. I have also attempted to reboot both my modem and router to no avail.

Just bought the linksys E2500 as an upgrade for a my Trendnet 150 wireless N router. I have a motorolla surfboard modem with time warner roadrunner cable internet. After connecting the router I have no internet connection. I do not get a light on the WAN connection after the ethernet cable is attached. I know the light works because when I power it on all the lights come on. I cloned the MAC address but this did not work. I have searched the forums for hours and tried different ideas to no avail. My PC recognized the router and I'm able to get to all the settings but cannot establish a connection from the router to the modem. I also tried different ethernet cables to eliminate that possiblilty.

I purchased an E2500 router today and it worked perfectly for about 4 hours. Now it drops my internet connection constantly. I can connect and load maybe 2 pages before that little yellow triangle of doom appears. Then after 2 or 3 minutes I am good and can reconnect. This cycle just keeps happening.

I just purchased a E2500 wireless router to upgrade from the previous G- router which I was using. I'm not very experienced in tech issues and would like to know, what would be the easiest way to extend my wireless signal through out the house. The E2500 which I just purchased does not cover all the areas in my household.

I've been having issues with my e2500 router. I've found my connection dropping occasionally both with a wired connection and wirelessly on other computer. My desktop is connected directly to the router via ethernet and I've been keeping an eye on my network preference pane. Every 10 minutes or so the connection will be lost and computer says the cable is unplugged. It then resolves after 2 minutes.
I'm running OSX 10.8, firmware 1.0.07. Done a factory reset, power cycles etc. Configured with Cisco connect and manually multiple times. I've swapped out ethernet cables just to be sure it wasn't a cable issue.
Internet is fine when I've got the computer hooked up directly to the modem. No connection issues.

I have a Linksys E2500 Firmware Version: 1.0.03 and am using the "IPSec Passthrough" for work. On a typical day I'll sign in to my work's VPN, do my work, sign off in the evening, and read my personal email with a direct connection to the internet.
Then on the next morning, I am unable to connect to work until I go to http://192.168.1.1/index.asp and click "reboot." And as soon as the modem finishes rebooting, my laptop can connect to work. I've tried this several days in a row now, and indeed all I need to do to get the VPN passthrough working is rebooting the modem.
Nothing under "Applications & Gaming" is set. I've seen some posts about having a trigger on UDP port 500, but I'm not quite sure how to translate it for the E2500. Plus I'd rather the router "just work" day after day for VPN and everything else, like my old router did! Is there some other setting to try or clearer directions for a bulletproof IPSec passthrough on that unit?

I already have a desktop and modem at home, but I recently bought a new Sony Vaio laptop for college. I also bought a Linksys E2500 wireless router so my laptop could have internet access at home.I inserted the Starter Guide CD into my desktop, created my ID/password, and connected all the cables like it instructed me to but I still couldn't connect to the internet. Instead, several windows popped up with messages like, "Found new hardware. Locate and install driver software, "Insert disc that came with Internet Access Server", and "Windows could not find driver software for your device."When I tried to troubleshoot, I get something like this, "There may be a problem with your DNS - Windows attempted to find www. microsoft.com using DNS, but server responded back with unknown."I also tried inserting the disc into the laptop, but I still didn't recieve any internet connection, but it says that my router was connected.I tried following its advice to restart, unplug cables, and wait 2 minutes but none of it seem to work.

I recently purchased a linksys E2500 for my home network. Occassionally, we have dropped connections, on both G and N cards. The router is connected to a corei3-2100 cpu with 6 gb ram and a 1tb hd, running win7 64bit. Ive bought home plugs for my wife's computer(in the house)and.an outdoor wireless antenna (a CCRANE super usb wifi antenna) for my computer in the garage. I still get dropped signals in the garage, which is only about 50 ft from the router. My computer in the garage is an AMD dualcore 4400 with 4 gb ram, and multiple hdds. What else can I do to get a better and more constant connection.

We are using a domain and Windows Server 2008 machine with DNS/DHCP setup and active to handle traffic on the network. The old router we had was a cheap (~$20) TrendNet that was configured (not by me) without issue to not only allow the server to handle IP's but also allow us to get in to the server remotely via Remote Desktop. My cut sheet says they had a "virtual server" setup.
Anyways, we now are running an E2500 and if I put in the external IP, Subnet, Gateway, and DNS for our internet provider and then disable DHCP on the router, we don't get internet access. I'm missing what configuration I need to get the server to handle all the traffic I guess. The server has DHCP enabled with the router IP address (192.168.1.1) set and the server address is (192.168.1.2). Like I said before it was working fine with our old router and none of the settings on the server have been changed so must be something with the new router.
Do I need to setup something in the advanced routing to get this working? Currently I have DHCP on automatic and DHCP server enabled just so we can get internet access. DHCP services on the server are still on as well. Can't get any access to the server from the outside via Remote Desktop like we could before.

I have an E2500 with the latest firmware upgrade (1.0.03). My configuration is simple, I have a fixed IP from my ISP with fixed DNS servers. I have one computer connected via cable and one connected via wireless and a laptop that gets connected on occasion wirelessly as well. I also have an android phone that I sometimes have the networking turned on and sometimes not. That doesn't seem to be affecting the router either as I've lost connections under both circumstances. The only thing I have different is I clone the MAC address as the ISP has my IP linked to my old Linksys MAC.
The problem is I randomly lose connection to the internet, the home network is still up it's just the internet goes down. I could be on the computer or not, sometimes while browsing sometimes after I browse for a while sometimes before I get started. Fortunately its not happened during one of my online games but it has happened just after I log off the game. It usually happens a couple of times a day.

I'm using an E2500 router and an EA2500 adapter (to update my desktop from 802.11 g connection to 802.11n). I've connected my notebook to the network and the connection speed for the notebook is approx. 5.5 Mbps compared to 21.5 Mbps for the desktop connection. why the notebook connection is so much slower?I've just reinstalled both the E2500 and EA2500 tonight. I'm not sure whether or not there was such a vast difference in speed between the two before the reinstallation.

Just replaced a WRT54GS with an E2500. It seems that anytime a connected device goes "idle" for a while, the connection breaks or severely reduces and it's nearly impossible to get the connection back without performing an action at the device in question. Let the wireless connection on my laptop go unused for some period and it reduces to 1Mbps and you can't get back on by just using the link more... you have to do a "repair".
Let more than a few minutes pass since you've printed something on the wireless printer and you MUST go to the printer to re-establish the connection by turning the antenna off and then on again.Basically the same problem with my blueray/DVD getting on the network. When I shut the screen off on my phone, the wifi dies and receives NOTHING over that link while the screen is off.
None of these behaviors existed with the WRT... just the 2500. Background/facts - current firmware, DHCP with reservations, WPA2/per, MAC filtering in use, UPnP disabled. MTU/Beacon/Frag threshold/RTS threshold set per recommendations on this site.

B) Linksys Switch (WRW248G4P) @ 192.168.1.254
C) Linksys Router (WRT160N) @ 192.168.1.202 (Disabled DHCP Server)
D) Linksys Router (E2500) @ 192.168.1.203
E) Windows Server 2003 @ 192.168.1.200
F) There is also a Router @ 192.168.1.201 that runs DD-WRT that has an enabled DHCP Server.
It goes something like this
i) A - B --ETHERNET-- E
ii) A - B --ETHERNET-- C
iii) A - B --FIBER to another building, then ETHERNET -- D
Everything connects to the internet, but (D) on (iii) doesn't allow connection to the server (E). What can I do to make this work?

my E2500 drops the internet connection randomly. I have no issues with wired or wireless access to the home network (sharing files, sharing printers etc...). To fix the problem I log into the router and do a soft reboot from the status page.
I posted this earlier and the only response I received was a cut and paste answer to make some changes to my wireless settings. Seriously doubting the relevance of the post I made the changes anyway and as expected nothing changed, the router still loses access to the internet without any warning. When I replied that I hadn't thought that that was the problem but that I HAD made the changes mentioned and as I expected it DIDN'T work I get no response.

Purchased E2500 1 week ago. I do not have a problem communicating with the router itself (either hard wired or wireless) but I have been unable to establish a usable internet connection from the router.I live in building that is wired by Restech Services - Ethernet jack in wall - no modem. Connection works just fine if I bypass router and connect directly to PC (windows XP SP3 desktop or windows 7 laptop.),Very difficult to establish any internet connection at all. I have to renew IP address many times or go through re-boot sequence multiple times. Once I get a connection it is unusable. If I attempt to ping a URL (either from PC or from router admin page) it is unable to resolve host. If I ping an IP directly (either from PC or router administrator page) I typically get 60 to 80% packet loss. As noted, if I bypass router and make internet connection directly to PC - no problems - no packet loss.Used Cisco Connect software to set up. On advice of ISP changed MTU from 1500 to 1300. Also registered MAC id with ISP and changed from cloning PC MAC to using the router MAC. Downloaded and installed latest firmware version. Did factory reset and re-configured the whole thing. Double checked and swapped wiring.

I have the Linksys EA6500 with the latest firmware and have a question regarding the device list connection status.Currently, I am seeing devices in the list that have a connection status of live, but they are not even within my home network. What is the update/cycle time for the device list actually checking connection status of a device? In my situation, it has been 3 days (72 hours) since the two device showing as connected have not been connected to my home network/router. Noticed that this inaccurate connection status for these devices is also contributing to the Device Monitr app not showing correct device connection status info.
Would like to have real-time device connection status if possible. This device list is great way to know when device get connected or disconnected which let me know when my kids get home from school or using game console when should be doing homework.

I have been using a WRT610N router for several years. A couple of weeks ago I purchased an iPad 2. I am not sure if its a limitaion of the iPad 2 or a wireless connection speed issue, but when watching You Tube music videos the video stops frequently and I have to hit the play button again to resume. This occurs more often if I am using Blue Tooth connected headphones than direct connected headphones, leading me to the initial conclusion that I am witnessing the limits of the iPad 2 processor. However, I recently downloaded the Speed Test app and have discovered that the wireless download speed varies from about 11-15Mbps, depending on the location (normal vs next to router). If I go to that web site and run the speed test there from my direct connected PC (connected to 1Gbps port), I get a download speed typically of 36Mbps (inflated I know because Comcast speed supposedly is limited to 25 Mbps).
