Jul 8, 2011Internet speeds through my modem are 15+mbps.its usually at 1-5 mbps.This woudln't be such a big deal only that now I lag in online gaming.

E2500 Router Not Obtaining IP From ATT High Speed DSL?
Jul 3, 2012So I received a new modem today and wanted to tandem it with an extra router that I have so I can get wireless at work. Here are the steps I've taken:Verify modem connection works connected directlySet modem to bridge modeReset router, set to PPPOE with proper log in Try to connect, and get the message "Could not obtain IP from PPPoE"I've researched as much as I could stand online, and found these to be the major steps everywhere, most people miss the bridge mode but I'm sure I've done it properly (switched back and forth atleast 5 times). I don't currently have access to the connection but I can respond tonight to questions about what else I may or may not have done, and will take what is suggested here to try tomorrow

Apr 10, 2013I bought the new E2500 Router about 5 months ago and it was great until one day the wilreless part would not give me any speed at all. I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?

I noticed that the speed my computers report that they are connected to the wireless network connection is now 144.5 mps, versus 270 mps with the WRT300N. There is no change in location of the devices or computers. The computers use a WUSB300N adapter. Is there a setting or setup that needs to be changed?

Sep 21, 2012I have a Cisco e2500 dual band router.I have a cable modem pulling down 55mps.When I put it through my router I get 22mps wireless and 55mps wired. I want my wireless speed as fast as it can go!I have changed channels, I have gone with just wireless N I have done just Mixed. I contacted customer support and they won't talk to me since I am out of warranty (I just not got internet this fast).One small caveat - when I take the channel selection off auto and change to a preffered channel my one laptop drops connection a lot. We have two laptops and both get the same speed. (No I am not running speed tests with a bunch of other things running etc)

Aug 19, 2011I just bought an E2500 router, and am only getting a fraction of the speed I do by connecting without it. Both wireless and wired through the router I'm getting about 1 mbps, while without it I'm getting about 10 mbps.
I do live in an apartment, so I'd understand if there were some wireless interference going on, but would that explain away the wired issues too? I've also tried changing the channel (though only of the 2.4 GHz connection), and that's not working any.

Staying connected and keeping speeds high are a must.I have been noticing connections cutting out at time. It is frustrating when I lose my internet.we have ~3000 sq foot house... 3 levels (basement, first, second).We don't use all of these at the same time but we have: 2 laptops, 3 iphones, ipad, and a PS3 for online gaming.
How can I get the absolute best, most reliable connection and speeds out of my router so we don't experience disconnects?I bought the RE1000 range extender... having installed it yet because the install CD that came with it is the wrong CD (It came with the E900 install CD... which is for a router)I bought the N600 USB adapter which I guess is supposed to update your wireless card for your laptop. Apr 8, 2012I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia.The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality.My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed.The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Belkin ADSL 2+ (Modem with Wireless b/g and Voip) only being used now as an ADSL Modem and VOIP service.2. Cisco linksys e 2500.3. Media centre PC which has a wired connection to linksys e 2500.4. Jul 11, 2012I bought an E2000 router as a replacement for my WRT54G router, since my internet speeds had been upgraded. But this E2000 router has been giving me nothing but trouble.
Wired through both the router or modem, I get my topspeed of 110mbps. However, as soon as I switch over to the wireless N function, my speed drops to only 25mbps. As far as I know, wireless N should have a much faster speed than that. Even my old WRT54G had faster speeds than this new router has. Mind you, that the distance between my laptop and router is about 3 inches away. The further I go away from my router, the speed exponentialy drops (20 feet, and the speed even drops to below 10mbps). Even with different laptops that have completely different wireless cards. Now honestly, I have tried EVERYTHING to get the speed up. Both 2.4 and 5ghz, 20mhz only, 40 mhz only, different channels (currently the router is in channel 11, being the only router in that channel), setting the network to G-only. I tried changing the Beacon interval thing in numerous settings, I even tried changing the MUT. Firmware is completely up to date. I have also tried placing the router on a completely different place, to make sure there was absolutely no interference (tough that shouldn't be an issue if my laptop is only 3 inches away) I tried changing the security mode to something different than WPA2/AES.
Nothing worked, if anything, it made it worse in some cases. I have litteraly tried every option I could find online, except for trying a third party firmware like DDWRT, which worked excellently for my old WRT54G, though I read that speeds can't be improved on this E2000 with a third party firmware.
Is there anything else I can do, or should I assume that my router is defective?
When I'm in my bedroom, I get a very poor connection and my speed drops to about 0.25mbps. Abysmal, so I bought a WiFi range extender to get me a better signal. It works, and it allows me to get a speed of about 5-6 mbps, without dropped connections. Still slow, but at least it works. The weird thing is, wired through my router or modem, I get about 9mbps upload speed. With this extender, I get the same 9mbps upload speed in my bedroom, though only 5-6 mbps download speed. You'd think that the upload speed would drop simultaneously with the download speed. How can my upload speed be higher (maxing out) than my download speed? I wonder if my transmitting antenna of my router isn't defective.

Apr 16, 2013I have the WRT54G v2.2 router. I have Comcast internet service. Comcast has just increased their internet download speed to 50Mbps. With a wired computer (not wireless), connected directly to the router, the fastest internet download speed I get is 30Mbps. When I called Comcast's technical support, they are telling me I need a new router as the older routers can't handle these high internet speeds.

Dec 28, 2010I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

Oct 4, 2012I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?

DHCP is disabled on the E2500. I can use my E2500 as a wired access point with no difficulty I plug something in and it calls the router and gets an address, but I can not get DHCP through the wireless of the E2500.

Jun 26, 2012I am working with vpn setups for the first time. I would like to be able to connect to a computer on a home network through a linksys E2500 router. I have found alot of documentation on connecting to an external vpn from a computer on the lan side of the router, but nothing on connecting from the outside in. The router does have a static ip address with my internet provider, so I can contact the router from the outside. But makeing the connection to the computer on the other side of the router is where I am missing something or I dont realize that it is not possible. On the LAN side I am using DHCP to assign the address to the computer I want to connect to. Perhaps I need to make it have a static address also? I realize that when I configure the connection from the outside that I need to direct the connection to the remote computer in some way, unless vpn connections are fully passed through the router and the connection issue I am having is with the "inside" computer.

May 10, 2012I have an E2500 configured inside my network. It is configured to give wireless PCs (This subnet is connected to a Lan port with 10.30.0.0 address) another subnet than wired PCs (this subnet is connected to Wan port 192.168.0.0). Since i configured i can access from wireless PCs to servers and PCs in the wired subnet but cannot access from wired computers from to wireless PCs. I suppouse it is because traffic is restricted from Wan to Lan.

Feb 1, 2012I have a E2500 connected via LAN to my network via a switch or hub through a sonic wall and into the modem out to the internet. The problem is that I am only getting +/- 5Mpbs Down and +/-7 Mbps up through the router.
If I connect my computer to the network with out going through the router my speeds are more in the range of +/-28 Mbps down and 16Mbps up. I have been working with Linksys support but they have not been able to assist me with this yet! Is there any configuring I should be doing at the firewall or to the router to tell it to open up the port for faster speeds?

Here's the thing: we have a laptop that has been humming perfectly along for more that 12 years because we have never let it be touched by the internet. It has built in wi-fi, but we've never connected it. It has no viruses, no Microsoft creep, we've never had to purchase a virus software update and it has outlasted every piece of computer equipment we've ever owned. We'd like to keep it that way!
But now that the wireless printer is working beautifully, we want to know if there's a way to send the laptop through the router to the wireless printer, but not expose it to the internet. Is that possible?
