I noticed that the speed my computers report that they are connected to the wireless network connection is now 144.5 mps, versus 270 mps with the WRT300N. There is no change in location of the devices or computers. The computers use a WUSB300N adapter. Is there a setting or setup that needs to be changed?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been fighting with my E2500 since I got it back in June with lag, dropped connections, etc. It's a bit intermittent but can hang around for hours at a time when it kicks in. Restarts but the issue always comes back. Most noticeable while gaming online or on a VOIP program such as Team Speak. Generally when it happens If I'm monitoring my Team Speak connection the incoming packet loss shoots up between 20-30%, starting to drop out every other word or so. No out going packet loss. The connection drops are random between computers (I have one mac and one pc in the house) where one will be fine and the other wont, or when the whole system will stay connected and drop all transfer. In the case of this last one it's not my ISP's connection as any streaming happening between one computer and an Apple TV device will also cease. I've also swapped back to my old router (an older model linksys) and all problems have stopped. Fully rebooted and reconfigured the router about 3 or 4 times and am on the latest version of firmware (1.0.003). It was much worse on 1.0.002 but still very noticeable on 003. Also no difference with a different wireless adapter. I've tried the chat technical support but all they did was take 45 minutes to tell me how to reboot my router after telling them I already had.

Happens in cycles of disconnect/auto reconnect or will go hours of stable operation. What I have noticed is tht the connection speed seems to vary, from a hig of 54.0 Mbps to as low as 2.0 Nbps. At same time the desktop pc (hard wired to modem) stays connected at 100 Mbps.Using RCA modem, WRT160n v3 router.

I ran a wired test of the router and I would get full 30Mbps speed that I'm supposed to get. So after firmware updates and everything else I took it back and got another one.It has worked great for a month and today it's now doing the same wilress slow down issue. I can run a lan connected test and get full speed. But wireless is bouncing around at 5Mbps~13Mbps. No where near the 30Mbps I'm supposed to be getting. What is causing the wireless to bomb like this?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco e2500 dual band router.I have a cable modem pulling down 55mps.When I put it through my router I get 22mps wireless and 55mps wired. I want my wireless speed as fast as it can go!I have changed channels, I have gone with just wireless N I have done just Mixed. I contacted customer support and they won't talk to me since I am out of warranty (I just not got internet this fast).One small caveat - when I take the channel selection off auto and change to a preffered channel my one laptop drops connection a lot. We have two laptops and both get the same speed. (No I am not running speed tests with a bunch of other things running etc)
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought an E2500 router, and am only getting a fraction of the speed I do by connecting without it. Both wireless and wired through the router I'm getting about 1 mbps, while without it I'm getting about 10 mbps.
I do live in an apartment, so I'd understand if there were some wireless interference going on, but would that explain away the wired issues too? I've also tried changing the channel (though only of the 2.4 GHz connection), and that's not working any.

I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia.The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality.My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed.The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Both PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate (Main PC) , Professional (Media Centre PC). My network knowledge is decent. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have lately been having trouble with the speed of my wireless connection. usually downloads can run at approx max 1.2MB/S i have noticed significant speed drops in my downloads - when i connect to the network it starts off at 130mpbs, but then quicky drops to 12mbps - no settings have been changed recently.

So I received a new modem today and wanted to tandem it with an extra router that I have so I can get wireless at work. Here are the steps I've taken:Verify modem connection works connected directlySet modem to bridge modeReset router, set to PPPOE with proper log in Try to connect, and get the message "Could not obtain IP from PPPoE"I've researched as much as I could stand online, and found these to be the major steps everywhere, most people miss the bridge mode but I'm sure I've done it properly (switched back and forth atleast 5 times). I don't currently have access to the connection but I can respond tonight to questions about what else I may or may not have done, and will take what is suggested here to try tomorrow
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an issue that I am trying to track down. When I have 2 servers on the same VLAN on my AS pair, all is good because nothing leaves the switch. Where the issue is, is when I have 2 servers on different VLAN's and it requires a hop across the Core router pair. This hop drops the throughput rate by about 20-25% (from 44M to 35-36M)I think I know the issue, but want some input to from other to make sure I am not off-base. I have a pair of 6509E chassis' running Sup720 (VS-S720-10G) with CEF720 (X6748-GE-TX) modules. This is my Access Pair running VSS to look as 1 switch.
These tie into the Core pair of 6500E chassis' running Sup720 (Sup720-3B). This issue I see is that the core has a CEF720 card (6724-SFP), but the AS pair does not connect to the core on that card, they connect on a RJ45 Ethermodule (6148A-GE-TX) card. Would the fact that the AS pair does not connect to the core on the CEF7220 module on the core, cause the traffic to not make use of the CEF features of the Core and make each packet then have to be processed by the core instead of Express Forwarded?
I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.
I have a Arris DLS with 12 Mbps Download and when I Connect my laptop directly I get the same speed as 12 Mbps but when I do the speed test with my linksys I get only 5 Mbps. How to upgrade to the new WRT54GL or WRT54GS?

The application is accessing a security DVR which uses a RTSP / RTP stream. Of course this requires certian ports to be forwarded in order for this to work. This works flawlessly with a WRT310N or a Cisco 871 Router so I know the port forwarding is correct.
With the E4200V2 it works intermittently, I can replace EV4200V2 with either the Cisco 871 or the WRT310N and there are no issues.
well, i just bought an E4200 and, by the way, was very hard to configurate. But the real problem is: if there is a power loss, both modem and e4200 lights up, but no internet connection is provided.Even the SSID desappear. I trried to disconnected everything, reconnect by parts, but no success.I wired connect the E4200 to my iMac and the router was ok, configurated.Then, i reconnect to the modem and all worked ok.Now im testing possibilities and is i reboot the router, the net desappear and i have to try possibilities till it works.
My older router connected automatically, without a problem, but i decide to buy "the best" brand and its top product". Now im disappointed..
Twice i realize that if the connections drops out, i have to disconnect and reconnect the internet cable from my E4200...
All of a sudden I started experiencing occasional loss of communication with my router. I tried updating the firmware to the latest (1.0.04) but am still experiencing the same thing.I don't lose internet access, I lose connection to the router itself. If I power cycle the router, the connection is re-established and I'm able to access the router and in turn the internet. I'm seeing this on both wired and wireless connections. Last night the Cisco logo actually turned off when I lost connection (this was a first). When I power cycled, connection was restored and the logo lit up again.

This was somewhat true even before I got a wifi router. & it has continued. Recently it has been even worse & I'm not sure if it is my isp, my cable modem or the router. ISP came out & checked & said signals looked ok, although modem is old.Now i find out that the version of Cisco Connect that i had been using is incompatible w Mountain Lion so it won't work now. & newly downloaded dmg files say they are damaged (or that app has been modified or damaged--I'm not in a position to tell which but same results after I downloaded a 2nd time).
I have been having more frequent loss of internet connection at home. & when I click on the wifi icon to check, it shows it looking for networks. Also it has not been uncommon to see that it has switched to my guest network.Why would it switch to my guest network? What is the difference between the 2 besides the fact that I guess the guest network doesn't have access to everything on my regular network (which right now is only my iPhone, but may get wireless printer).Also when it shows the lists of networks that it "sees" my guest network does not show a padlock icon so what does that mean? It does have the default password.
Also because I had no idea that Cisco Connect was not compatible w Mountain Lion I didn't even think to check for upgrades before I upgraded to Mountain Lion & now I can't open Cisco Connect. Shows unsupoprted OS. & I'm also stalled trying to update the firmware for the router.I'm really beginning to see why it was cheaper than an Apple Airport Express. Even at a very low hourly rate, the lost time spent when this has not been working right has not been worth what I saved on the purchase price.
A while ago I bought a WRT320N as a trade-in offer, unfortunately I had around 20% packet loss on my connection after I set it up. If running directly through my cable modem I had no connection issues at all.I was running the whole setup cabled, and have no peripherals using the wireless connection.The router was returned to the retailer for RMA, and in the end I got the purchase credited.My setup ISP: Dansk Kabel TV (danish provider for internet, TV etc.)Modem: Netgear CVD31T DOCSIS 3.0 compliant Cablemodem (I do not have access to the modem, as it is provided by the ISP. The media server works fine but after a while i loose contact with the router and the server this means that the Cisco connect doesn't work, the 192.168.1.1 doesn't work and I can't find the disk via \. I do have internet connection via wifi as im using it now....why I loose connection to the router? The lease time is 24h and it can happen more than once in a day.

When I connect directly to the cable modem and run a speed test, using speedtest.net, I get 59MB download speed consistently. When I connect the modem to the router and plug into one of the 4 ports the speed is cut in less than half. The max speed is cut to between 23-24 MB download speeds. I have tried this via wireless as well with the same result.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wrt110 firmware .05 has been working fine until now. I have a couple of phones, 2 printers, 3 laptops and a wii happily connecting to it. However now when I power on the wireless device, nothing can connect wirelessly. Wired connection is fine, but my wireless network disappears. No device can find the network, although it is there and set up on the admin pages. I pull the power chord out for 30 seconds and try again to get it going again, a bit like trying to start a car. Everntually devices find the network.
On two occasions it has forgotten the wireless settings and restored an open 'linksys' network. It's really infuriating becuase whilst I restore the SSID and use the same key, not all the devices actually recognise it and have to be reconfigured on the devices.

If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.

When I configure the opendns addresses on static dns 1 and static dns 2 , all traffic, including traffic that should be internal to my network, gets routed to opendns. I tried to switch to staic setting and then putting in opendns into the dns server addresses but when you hit save it also sets the address and sends it along with DHCP to each pc.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried all sorts of settings, and I'm still holding out that its a setting possibly, but I have a E3500 and devices on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz... Most of them, probably when idle, seem to stop working over WIfi. They still have decent connection, but every internet related request just times out. Disable and reinable the wifi and it works great again.
Could this be defective wifi radios? or could it really be interference? I have it happening on multiple devices. Also, I'm not far away from the router when it occurs, and when I reconnect, it seems to work just fine for a while. Basically the big problem is on the cell phones and tablets because I'll miss notifications... I'll turn off the wifi and turn it back on when I use the device next, then a flood of notifications will come in. Again, it's not just a phone thing, tablets and laptops have the same problem, that's just the main reason I want it fixed.
Can your wireless router do a ping test to 66.161.11.90 [URL] or any other [URL] for that matter?Mine can't, either with my wireless PB G4 running OS X 10.4 or wired Dell running Windows XP. I tried it with a wrt54g v5 & wrt54g v6 both tests got a 'request timed out' with 100% packet loss. v5 had the latest firmware, v6 is still at 1.00.9

I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting. But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?
