Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - No Wifi After Power Loss?
Aug 26, 2012
well, i just bought an E4200 and, by the way, was very hard to configurate. But the real problem is: if there is a power loss, both modem and e4200 lights up, but no internet connection is provided.Even the SSID desappear. I trried to disconnected everything, reconnect by parts, but no success.I wired connect the E4200 to my iMac and the router was ok, configurated. Then, i reconnect to the modem and all worked ok.Now im testing possibilities and is i reboot the router, the net desappear and i have to try possibilities till it works.
My older router connected automatically, without a problem, but i decide to buy "the best" brand and its top product". Now im disappointed..
Twice i realize that if the connections drops out, i have to disconnect and reconnect the internet cable from my E4200...

I'm loosing about 40GB of data. If worst comes to worst i might go with another brand of router instead as i don't wanna waste a lot of money again as i currently feel i have with the E4200. Enough whining, here is my problem. The FTP and Media Server feature works nicely. I have a 2TB USB 2.0 HDD attached to the router's USB port. I use it for images and my music collection ripped there so i can play it all from my PS3 and TV. I also have many GB of video recordings and converted DVD discs for easier access. (And no, before anyone speaks of piracy, it IS legal, at least in my country, to back up your legit media) Now, everything worked fine, until one day after a few weeks, the router hanged for some reason so i decided to reboot it. To my disappointment it also wiped video and audio from my HDD which really got me pissed as i lost all track of what i had on the HDD. The Media Server was also having connection issues once in a while so i decided to update the firmware from 1.0.00 to 1.0.03. It immediately fixed the connection issues of the Media Server. Another noticeable change is that files transferred via FTP will show immediately via the Media Server without the need to update the database via the router as i needed to do in 1.0.00. Now today there was a power loss in the neighbourhood so the router went dead along with the HDD. To my big disappointment, everything was gone from the HDD when i started it up again. Images, music, video and even my application backups etc. It was just plain empty except for the root folders. I have done a few tests and figured that even if the HDD stays on, cutting the power to the router will wipe the connected HDD. What's up with that? Even a silly Windows PC wont nuke your files that much if an accessed HDD was disconnected while in use. Do i really need a UPS system for the router and safely disconnect the HDD from the router via the user interface every day? If so, the concept of having a router with these nice features is really useless and money theft in my opinion.

I own a CISCO Linksys 3500 router I use in my home. Every time there is a power outage, the router stops working. The only way I have managed to get it to restart is to remove the software, disconnect the router and then re installed and set up the router again

I'm using Comcast cable with a Linksys WRT4Gs wife router. I live in an older building which loses power for a little while (10 minutes or so) with every big storm. Every time the power comes back the linksys router completely resets...I have to plug into it and change the SSID, turn security back on, enter the password again, and then I'm fine...can I prevent this from happening? Before I plug into it I see both networks available (mine under my name, but I can't connect to it, and linksys as a public network), is there a step I'm missing to make my router remember it's identity?

I seem to be having packet loss with the E4200V2 which is upgraded to the latest firmware as of today, 1/18/12
The application is accessing a security DVR which uses a RTSP / RTP stream. Of course this requires certian ports to be forwarded in order for this to work. This works flawlessly with a WRT310N or a Cisco 871 Router so I know the port forwarding is correct.
With the E4200V2 it works intermittently, I can replace EV4200V2 with either the Cisco 871 or the WRT310N and there are no issues.

So I have an WRVS4400N V2 and just got a new laptop with an Intel 6230 Wifi card in it and have an odd problem. While the laptop is on battery power the network gets massive packet loss.
I don't know what to do.Laptop manufacture says its AP but AP worked fine with old laptop and works fine when laptop is on power and all other devices seem to be fine with the exception of my Xbox 360 that wont connect if I have it on WPA2 but I will post another thread for that.

All of a sudden I started experiencing occasional loss of communication with my router. I tried updating the firmware to the latest (1.0.04) but am still experiencing the same thing.I don't lose internet access, I lose connection to the router itself. If I power cycle the router, the connection is re-established and I'm able to access the router and in turn the internet. I'm seeing this on both wired and wireless connections. Last night the Cisco logo actually turned off when I lost connection (this was a first). When I power cycled, connection was restored and the logo lit up again.

Vista 64 Intel Pro 1000 with latest driver Here is a shot of the lagometer in COD Black Ops when all is good. I used to see this with my old WRT54GS and connected at 100Mbps Full Duplex or Half Duplex and I currently see this when connected through the E4200 at 100Mbps full or half duplex AND when connected via Gigabit via one of the 4 ports on the back of my cable modem, a Motorola SBG6580 [URL] This next screen capture is what happens when I try to connect via Gigabit thru the E4200. It either starts out like this right away or within 30 seconds to a minute this will start to occur. I believe the red spikes indicate packet loss. [URL]

I do have internet connection via wifi as im using it now....why I loose connection to the router? The lease time is 24h and it can happen more than once in a day.

I've tried all sorts of settings, and I'm still holding out that its a setting possibly, but I have a E3500 and devices on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz... Most of them, probably when idle, seem to stop working over WIfi. They still have decent connection, but every internet related request just times out. Disable and reinable the wifi and it works great again.
Could this be defective wifi radios? or could it really be interference? I have it happening on multiple devices. Also, I'm not far away from the router when it occurs, and when I reconnect, it seems to work just fine for a while. Basically the big problem is on the cell phones and tablets because I'll miss notifications... I'll turn off the wifi and turn it back on when I use the device next, then a flood of notifications will come in. Again, it's not just a phone thing, tablets and laptops have the same problem, that's just the main reason I want it fixed.

I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully. I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses. If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However, I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices? I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address. I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible. I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

It would be nice if there was a "Note" field next to each MAC field whereby you could specify what device the MAC belongs to. I have quite a few listed but recently I've gotten rid of the devices. I have to go through all my current devices, not them in another program, and then remove the ones that are no longer needed.
The Wireless Client List doesn't capture all the names so that's not what I'm looking for.
Also, it would be great if the "Note" would tie into the Parental Controls so that I know exactly what device I'm choosing. It currently lets you select from the Wireless Client List, but the list doesn't have all the Client Names populated.
So, one, is this feature available (or something similar) and two, if not, please take this into consideration as a useful feature for a new version down the road.

My e4200 v2 arrived today to replace my v1. I installed it along with a re1000 range expander for our big home. Works pretty well now, but did some google searching and it seems i could make my original e4200 into a bridge, would this be the way to go for max wifi? I could run a cat 6 cable upstairs along the outside of the home fairly easily.

I am having a trouble with my router, our modem is the one that is connected to a TV box and it comes with a wifi function(a modem with a wifi function). I am not sure how to set it up, so I connected it to E4200 which is located in another room using CAT6 flat cable and set it to "Bridge mode". But whenever I open the TV box, the wifi won't work, and when it's closed, it works. :s how weird is that. Are there any problems? The modem with wifi will always work either way I open/close the TV box, but the E4200 wifi will only work when I close the TV box. I asked my service provider about this and they tell me it's not their problem anymore.

I just purchased an e4200 in a corporate environment where we already have a wireless router. I am not able to connect the 2 devices via a LAN cable and am wondering if I can get bridge mode working over the network (wireless). I set the Linksys to bridge mode and assigned it an ip address. I disabled all wireless settings, etc. I then connected the internet port of the Linksys into a data port (wall jack) that connects to our flat network switch. It says it's connected under "Status" but I'm not sure how to confirm this.

I recently bought an E4200 and noticed that the wireless speed keeps dropping as it stays connected. As soon as I power it on, my iPhone and notebook connect at 54Mb, but as they remain connected, the speed keeps dropping to 48, 36 and one morning, my phone was oscillating between 5 and 11. The iPhone was almost at the same spot, and the signal was around 85~95%. On my 3 year old DIR-300, the speed don't change at all, and it's in a place where I can see around 15 connections. On the E4200 I can only see 2 other networks.I've already tried switching channels, fixed and auto channel, updating firmware and a few other common configurations. At first, I thought it was my repeater, but I turned it off and it didn't work. Turn my cordless phone off didn't change it also.

I just got an e4200 and I'm haviong very disappointing wireless speeds. My network is setup as follows
powerline----------desktop
|
|
powerline-----------wireless router ----------- laptop (using USB adapter Linksys AES1000, Intel bng internal, Belkin adapter)
If I plug into the back of the e4200 I can download at roughly the raw speed of the powerline 7 MBps. So I know the powerline connection is just fine and the routing function of the e4200 is just fine. When I use my laptop my speeds are wildly variable on both 2.4 and 5 ghz. With a clear line of sight to the router (maybe 7 feet away) they seem to hover around 1.5 MBps but have reached as high as 5.5 MBps twice. Using my much cheap older Buffalo router I routinely get speeds in the 4.5 MBps range which I would consider acceptable (although it has other, separate issues). I have followed all of the advice I can find on the forums. The range is also pretty terrible. If I'm 20 feet away and no longer have a clear line of site to the router I will frequenly have almost no signal and miserably slow download speeds in the kbps.I have made sure that I am using wpa2 with AES, I have changed my MTU to 1365, I have updated the firmware to the one released in March, and I have explored setting different channels on the router to no avail. I also contacted tech support which I'm only marginally sure understood that I was talking about the LAN connection and not the internet.

The task is to share Internet via Wireless router for visitors without any Proxy/Windows Domain authentication. We have:1) Windows based Domain with Active Directory Users, with no DHCP setup, only Static IPs allowed. Used as a DNS server, the IP-address is 192.168.1.1, Domain name, say, Internet Connection via Proxy server which authenticates users via above-mentioned DNS server, the Proxy server IP-address is 192.168.1.3, ruled by MS TMG (ISA server)3) A Wi-Fi Router Cisco E4200.The local area network is wired and works fine. Domain users are happy. The idea is to make visitors happy with a free Internet connection without wiring them into the LAN.So:1) Respected visitors would not have to set up static IP-adresses on their devices to connect to Internet and2) Respected visitors would not have to enter domain credentials to get access to Internet, but3) Network security should not be jeopardized.

I purchased a WAG320N and E4200 and have manged to get the modem connected to the internet and it's running fine in that respect, with no adjusting done to the settings. My intentions are to connect the WAG320N to the E4200 wirelessly, as they are in seperate rooms in the house and have done a similar setup in the past with a 7300G Billion Modem and WRT54GL.
With the E4200 I quickly discovered there was no bridge mode out of the box, but checking these forums got the indication that the firmware updates added this capability, so updated it..I entered the IP Address of the Router, the Subnet mask of the network and the Default Gateway / Modem router IP address into the fields, following this guide, but have not been able to get the computers to contact one another, nor ping the other devices.

I have the following setup at home:
-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (100Mbs) to local ISP for internet access
-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (1Gps) to my desktop PC
-E4200 connected via wireless (5Ghz with WPA2 personal) to my laptop
In general, everything works fine, I can download files from internet to my PC close to the maximum speed limit (80-90Mbs), the wireless connection goes up to 300Mbs and it can achieve around 10-14MB/s file transfer between PC and laptop.A lot of the time the wireless connection to my laptop is used for HD content streaming from the desktop PC. It works very well until I start downloading files to my PC with speed greater than 50Mbs, when the wireless connection speed drops very fast to about 500KB/s which results in interruptions on the video streaming. At the same time the router’s web interface reacts much slower than usual, as if the router’s CPU is overloaded.
I’ve read this follow up review on Small net builder url...and it’s clear that there are some issues when taking E4200 to the limit, but in my case it’s nowhere near that.

All my wireless devices are 802.11n and none of them can pick up the 5 GHz band on my E4200 router. I've tried all the different settings and channels on this band and still nothing. The only device i have been able to pick up the 5 GHz band with is a Desktop PC with a linksys AE1000 USB network adapter. This is quite frustrating because I would like to put my blu-ray player and game systems on the 5 GHz band. Laptop, PS3, XBOX 360, iPOD, and blue-ray player all can't pick up the 5 GHz band. Either my unit is defective (which I don't think is the case or not even the USB adapter would be picking up the network) or there is something I am missing (which I have tried pretty much everything as far as I know with the settings, have two separate names for the band networks and have tried each individual channel under 5 GHz). Also running current firmware version.

I've bought a E4200 router because of it's "maximum performance". With the normal settings i have a wireless range of maximum 10 m in the building. after 5m I've got a low signal.I tested a cheap Netgear-router, which had the same range as the E4200 a 125 Euro.Is my E4200 broke or is it just a bad buy? The settings are standard (that shouldn't be the problem, I guess!?)

I recently bought myself the E4200v1 router, and have had several issues with it. One issue I cannot seem to find a workaround for is the wifi bandwidth problem.I have a 100/10 mbitl internet connection. The router claims to support 300/450 mbit speeds over wifi, so that should be plenty. in reality however, that isnt so.Even though my N-standard wifi adapter on my machine states it has a 130 mbit connection to the router, I consistently test the internet throughput when using wifi and speedtest.net to around 20-21 mbit. If I put in a cable, I instantly get full speed, 100/10 mbit.
Have to add; I am not new to the networking game, I have a CCNA and a degree in computer sciences, and work with hosting web sites using cloud tech every day. At this point, I have tried everything related to settings on the router, so I can only conclude that there's some kind of bug in the firmware. I would expect the standard firmware to work, and not having to install DDWRT or other custom firmware.
