E4200 Version 2.0.37.131047 disconnects my wireless clients intermittently. I am seeing it mostly on the 5Ghz band but that is where most of my clients are connected. I have all the setting in advanced tweaked per cisco best practice. It just seems to reset every so often. Wired connection is not disconnected.
View 9 Repliesmy laptop (asus) has been having issues with my WiFi. On startup, the laptop will (usually) connect to the internet fine, but after a few minutes, usually without any specific cause, it will disconnect from the internet, and the toolbar indicator will go from full signal (full bars) to no bars and a yellow triangle, saying limited access. When I try to reconnect, it will say "connecting" for a few seconds and then will say "cannot connect". I have to leave it for a few minutes every time before it will randomly reconnect until the next incident... My other two pc's (one Windows 7 and one Windows xp) do not have this issue, but sometimes other wireless devices in the house (iphone, ipad) will have a problem where the WiFi indicator will show full bars but I will not have internet access. I have to disconnect and reconnect in order for it to work. Again, it happens sporadically with no obvious cause...

I just bought a linksys 4200v2 router and I still get disconnects every so often.... usually disconnects for about 30 secs then comes back online. When it disconnects, it disconnects all devices on the wireless network router... laptops, iphones, etc..I have tried adjusting some settings in the router but I simply don't know enough to know what I'm doing
Network mode: Mixed (same as 5ghz)
SSID: different from 5ghz
Security Mode: WPA2/ WPA Mixed Mode (same as 5ghz)
Channel Width: 20 mhz only (40 for 5ghz)
Channel: 1 (auto for 5ghz)

How can I stop being disconnected from the internet? I have inssider and I checked to see what channel my neighbors are using and all of them are using 6 or 11 so I decided to use channel 1 for 2.4 ghz.I have a ~3000 sq ft home with 3 levels (basement, first, second). We do some work in the basement and second floor... most is done on the first.
I have an e4200 set up using a trendnet TEW-684ub. Connection on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz seems fine, but when the 5Ghz network is under load, such as running speedtest, the network drops for a second. This does not appear to happen on the 2.4Ghz network.
2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks are set to Auto width and channel using WPA2 and I've tried raising the router up a bit to increase airflow to try to eliminate overheating as a possible issue. I'm also running the latest firmware...1.0.0.3, I believe.
I check all of the settings and changed the channel to see if it works. For some reason it disconnects my wireless internet at random times and i know before it never use to do that before with a older router. There is nothing blocking it, it worked before, and my computers can connect except two. The only thing i can guess is my wireless card.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my in-laws network from a WRT54G to a E4200. It's working but I'm getting issues with the 5Ghz end. I've got both SSIDs using different names.. so its clear which I'm connecting to. I have a macbook pro which has N support and can see the 5GHz SSID.The issue I get is that when I connect to the 5Ghz SSID, the laptop cannot ping or connect to LAN clients on the 2.4GHz end. This includes SMB shares, a couple of devices with web interfaces and one machine running a VNC server. There is also issues with Internet access.. but only sometimes.
Say I have two terminals open.. one pinging Google and the other pinging one of the 2.4Ghz clients. If I connect to the 2.4Ghz SSID, I get both pings working fine. If I switch to the 5GHz SSID, the macbook gets its IP address but then the Google ping will work but the internal ping just keeps failing. The Internet issue.. looking back on the above example.. sometimes the Google ping will also fail. The mac also sometimes indicates that there is no Internet connection behind the wireless connection when this happens.
When I connect on the 5Ghz SSID, I get my LAN IP address from the router (ifconfig). I can also see the /etc / resolve.conf correctly populated on the macbook with thge gateway and DNS settings.For now, I'm just going to get them to only use the 2.4Ghz SSID and assume that a later release of the softeware will fix things.. it could be a compliance issue on the Apple/Cisco N support.
Is there a way to get the E4200 to NOT provide itself as a dns server to the DHCP clients? I have the unit set up to provide two dns servers to the clients, but the 4200 always provides itself as a third and it uses my cable providers dns servers. I am using a dns based filtering service to prevent certain material from being accessed within my network as the first two resolvers. So long as both or one of the provided servers is working it doesn't fall back to the unfiltered third, but I would prefer to remove it entirely.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've just set up my E4200 and none of my wireless N clients connect at full speed. Irrespective of what wireless settings I use they all seem to connect at around half speed. My laptop for example insists on connecting at 144.4 Mbps though it supports 300 Mbps. Periodically it will connect at 300Mbps, but the next time the I reconnect or I make a settings change on the router (irrespective of what the change is) the speed drops back to 144.4. Clients that support 150Mbps connect a consistent 65Mbps.I'm running FW 1.0.02, though the problem existed with 1.0.01 (I hard reset before and after upgrade) and I've tried re-flasing the 1.0.02 firmware.Any combination of channel, width, mode and security type etc doesn't seem to influence the performance. Nor does distance (the client above is 3ft from the router).My previous router was located in exactly the same place as the E4200 and I had a solid full speed connection all over the house.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a wrt54gt running firmware 1.0.04 in my house. I have about 30-40 wifi devices.. Mostly smartphones connecting to the router. If i look at the dhcp table there is about 35 computers listed. The router is running on channel 2.
Lately ive noticed that certain devices can not connect after they are powered up.. It could be a tablet, pc or smartphone. Most will error out saying they cant connect. If i turn off a working device then the newly powered on device can connect. It seems like i have reached a limit.
Setting a failing device to static ip does not work, the device never succesfully associates. I tried upping the dhcp pool to 100 from 50. Is this just a limitation of the router? Is there another router that i can buy that will work for me?
I've just upgraded my home wireless from an NetComm NB5540 + modem to a LinkSys X3000.Internet access works fine for all devices, but some wireless devices can't "see" my Win7 desktop system that's on a wired connections to the router. Galaxy Note phone (running ICS 4.0.4) can discover and connect to file shares on my desktop system without any problems.Asus Transformer Prime tablet (running JellyBean 4.1.1) can see the router on the local network, but can't see my desktop. Even if I manually type in the IP address it can't connect to itLikewise my old WinXP laptop can see the router but can't see or connect to any other devices.
I tried connecting the NetComm router with just Wifi configured to one of the ethernet ports on the X3000, so I've got two Wifi networks running in parallel. If I connect to this second WiFi network with any of the above devices then they can all discover and connect to my desktop system on the wired connection to the X3000.
I have a non linksys modem router with wifi capabilities.I want to connect wirelessly the E4200 with my modem/ router ... After that, I want to be connected ONLY to the E4200, wirelessly and wired TOGETHER to have internet to my desktop pc (via lan cable) and to my wireless clients (via wifi).
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt would be nice if there was a "Note" field next to each MAC field whereby you could specify what device the MAC belongs to. I have quite a few listed but recently I've gotten rid of the devices. I have to go through all my current devices, not them in another program, and then remove the ones that are no longer needed.
The Wireless Client List doesn't capture all the names so that's not what I'm looking for.
Also, it would be great if the "Note" would tie into the Parental Controls so that I know exactly what device I'm choosing. It currently lets you select from the Wireless Client List, but the list doesn't have all the Client Names populated.
So, one, is this feature available (or something similar) and two, if not, please take this into consideration as a useful feature for a new version down the road.
My e4200 v2 arrived today to replace my v1. I installed it along with a re1000 range expander for our big home. Works pretty well now, but did some google searching and it seems i could make my original e4200 into a bridge, would this be the way to go for max wifi? I could run a cat 6 cable upstairs along the outside of the home fairly easily.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am using my ASA 5505 to remote VPN. I use both windows and Macs. I use the Cisco VPN client software on the windows machine, on the Mac I have used both the Cisco VPN software and the built in OS X VPN client.
I am able to VPN with all machines, but randomly the VPN will disconnect all users. I know there is a setting that may fix this which I think I tested in the past and it did not work, but I have now forgotten it.
I have a Linksys Wireless-N Home Router, WRT120N to be exact, and I have been having problems with my wireless. My wifi losses internet connection intermittently. This does not happen when I am connected directly to the router with a Ethernet cable. I have redone all the settings many times(like 6) and Im still having the same problem.

well, i just bought an E4200 and, by the way, was very hard to configurate. But the real problem is: if there is a power loss, both modem and e4200 lights up, but no internet connection is provided.Even the SSID desappear. I trried to disconnected everything, reconnect by parts, but no success.I wired connect the E4200 to my iMac and the router was ok, configurated.Then, i reconnect to the modem and all worked ok.Now im testing possibilities and is i reboot the router, the net desappear and i have to try possibilities till it works.
My older router connected automatically, without a problem, but i decide to buy "the best" brand and its top product". Now im disappointed..
Twice i realize that if the connections drops out, i have to disconnect and reconnect the internet cable from my E4200...
I am having a trouble with my router, our modem is the one that is connected to a TV box and it comes with a wifi function(a modem with a wifi function). I am not sure how to set it up, so I connected it to E4200 which is located in another room using CAT6 flat cable and set it to "Bridge mode". But whenever I open the TV box, the wifi won't work, and when it's closed, it works. :s how weird is that. Are there any problems? The modem with wifi will always work either way I open/close the TV box, but the E4200 wifi will only work when I close the TV box. I asked my service provider about this and they tell me it's not their problem anymore.

I am not able to connect the 2 devices via a LAN cable and am wondering if I can get bridge mode working over the network (wireless). I set the Linksys to bridge mode and assigned it an ip address. I disabled all wireless settings, etc. I then connected the internet port of the Linksys into a data port (wall jack) that connects to our flat network switch. It says it's connected under "Status" but I'm not sure how to confirm this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an E4200 and noticed that the wireless speed keeps dropping as it stays connected.As soon as I power it on, my iPhone and notebook connect at 54Mb, but as they remain connected, the speed keeps dropping to 48, 36 and one morning, my phone was oscillating between 5 and 11. The iPhone was almost at the same spot, and the signal was around 85~95%. On my 3 year old DIR-300, the speed don't change at all, and it's in a place where I can see around 15 connections. On the E4200 I can only see 2 other networks.I've already tried switching channels, fixed and auto channel, updating firmware and a few other common configurations. At first, I thought it was my repeater, but I turned it off and it didn't work. Turn my cordless phone off didn't change it also.

If I plug into the back of the e4200 I can download at roughly the raw speed of the powerline 7 MBps. So I know the powerline connection is just fine and the routing function of the e4200 is just fine. When I use my laptop my speeds are wildly variable on both 2.4 and 5 ghz. With a clear line of sight to the router (maybe 7 feet away) they seem to hover around 1.5 MBps but have reached as high as 5.5 MBps twice. Using my much cheap older Buffalo router I routinely get speeds in the 4.5 MBps range which I would consider acceptable (although it has other, separate issues). I have followed all of the advice I can find on the forums. The range is also pretty terrible. If I'm 20 feet away and no longer have a clear line of site to the router I will frequenly have almost no signal and miserably slow download speeds in the kbps.I have made sure that I am using wpa2 with AES, I have changed my MTU to 1365, I have updated the firmware to the one released in March, and I have explored setting different channels on the router to no avail. I also contacted tech support which I'm only marginally sure understood that I was talking about the LAN connection and not the internet.
Why I must restart my e4200 after 2-3 days when I want to connect my device like notebook or phone to the router. After restart my device can obtain the ip. I hardly to turn off the router.Is something wrong with my router ? [code]

If I am watching a video, it doesn't matter which site, the video will stop and start from the beginning or the video will just stop altogether and I have to refresh the page. Another problem that happens while browsing, it will take about a minute for a page to load. The computer I am using is wired right into the router.
The rest of the family's computers the apple tv and the roku are wireless. I have been hearing complaints from them and have witnessed the laggyness. While streaming videos on the roku or apple tv, the video will stop and say video is not available or no connection. This is what I get from ipconfig/all

View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased a WAG320N and E4200 and have manged to get the modem connected to the internet and it's running fine in that respect, with no adjusting done to the settings.My intentions are to connect the WAG320N to the E4200 wirelessly, as they are in seperate rooms in the house and have done a similar setup in the past with a 7300G Billion Modem and WRT54GL.
With the E4200 I quickly discovered there was no bridge mode out of the box, but checking these forums got the indication that the firmware updates added this capability, so updated it..I entered the IP Address of the Router, the Subnet mask of the network and the Default Gateway / Modem router IP address into the fields, following this guide, but have not been able to get the computers to contact one another, nor ping the other devices.

I have the following setup at home:
-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (100Mbs) to local ISP for internet access
-E4200 connected via Ethernet cable (1Gps) to my desktop PC
-E4200 connected via wireless (5Ghz with WPA2 personal) to my laptop
In general, everything works fine, I can download files from internet to my PC close to the maximum speed limit (80-90Mbs), the wireless connection goes up to 300Mbs and it can achieve around 10-14MB/s file transfer between PC and laptop.A lot of the time the wireless connection to my laptop is used for HD content streaming from the desktop PC. It works very well until I start downloading files to my PC with speed greater than 50Mbs, when the wireless connection speed drops very fast to about 500KB/s which results in interruptions on the video streaming. At the same time the router’s web interface reacts much slower than usual, as if the router’s CPU is overloaded.
I’ve read this follow up review on Small net builder url...and it’s clear that there are some issues when taking E4200 to the limit, but in my case it’s nowhere near that.
How to get WDTV live hub to successfully connect to the E4200 over wifi without getting a DNS error?
My system:
E4200, fw v. 2.1.39.145204
WDTV Live Hum, fw v. 3.08.14
DWA-160 (rev. A) usb wifi dongle fw v. 1.80
My sony wifi equipped blueray connected to the E4200 without trouble and accesses the USB HDD connected to the E4200.
All my wireless devices are 802.11n and none of them can pick up the 5 GHz band on my E4200 router. I've tried all the different settings and channels on this band and still nothing. The only device i have been able to pick up the 5 GHz band with is a Desktop PC with a linksys AE1000 USB network adapter. This is quite frustrating because I would like to put my blu-ray player and game systems on the 5 GHz band. Laptop, PS3, XBOX 360, iPOD, and blue-ray player all can't pick up the 5 GHz band. Either my unit is defective (which I don't think is the case or not even the USB adapter would be picking up the network) or there is something I am missing (which I have tried pretty much everything as far as I know with the settings, have two separate names for the band networks and have tried each individual channel under 5 GHz). Also running current firmware version.

I've bought a E4200 router because of it's "maximum performance". With the normal settings i have a wireless range of maximum 10 m in the building. after 5m I've got a low signal.I tested a cheap Netgear-router, which had the same range as the E4200 a 125 Euro.Is my E4200 broke or is it just a bad buy? The settings are standard (that shouldn't be the problem, I guess!?)
