Linksys E3000 Router / Ethernet Connection Is Dropping While Wifi Stays Connected
May 27, 2011
I have Comcast cable internet routed through a linksys E3000 router. My desktop is connected to my router via ethernet and my various other devices including my laptop are wifi connected. It seems almost at random that my desktop will lose its connection.Windows will show me as still being connected and my network connection will show a normal status until I atttempt to repair it then it will change to limited or no connectivity. Through all of this, my other devices all still have a wifi signal (I don't use more than 1 or 2 at the same time). I can reconnect to the internet by unplugging my ethernet cable then reuplugging it back in and my connection will start working again. I've also had several blue screens, and when I checked the dmp files it revealed my network card driver as the culprit, yet I have reinstalled and even clean installed the microsoft signed driver. I have also attempted to reboot both my modem and router to no avail.

I have an Asus U31JG with WIndows 7 64-bit. This laptop is a month old to me and the wireless has been acting up since the day I got it, will explain below. I believe my home network is the problem. I have a Linksys WRT54G with WPA Personal encryption. Multiple times a day my internet quits working even though Windows says it has full connection to my router. To fix this, I open command prompt and use "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This fixes the problem for me, it may be a minute or a few hours. The problem is very intermittent and only happens at my home which is why I believe it is my network. However, I changed the wireless channel to 1, the only one around on that channel and tried different security settings. My WiFi works flawlessly if I take my laptop to my friends house where he has a Netgear router. I have also tried a brand new Cisco Router as well as a Netgear router at my house.
I've re installed the driver twice, and the same problem persists in Linux only I just have to disable/enable wireless.
Note: When the internet quits working on my laptop it works on other devices so it is not the internet connection causing this. And my internet is very slow when it is working on my laptop via wireless.

My E3000 has been working fine with 1.0.04 build 6 FW. Recently some devices (kindle, iPad) can't connect to internet while connected to E3000 via WiFi network. Had a look my E3000 router IP is 192.168.0.1 but those problematic devices has IP 192.168.1.XXX allocated by DHCP not sure why. Currently I manually set up static IP 192.168.0.XXX for those devices.

I got burned after purchasing a 3TB WD 3.0 USB hard drive that I can not use on my current E3000 or the their latest E4200. At least support knew that answer fairly fast. My bad for not taking the time to think I would have to search this website to find the short list of external USB drives that will work with the E3000.All I wanted to do was store my media files on a shared network drive. I am cheating the system now and using a shared drive on the main PC. The whole point of my project is not to have the main PC running to share media. So before I go scrap this 60 day old router, using WDs My Life 2TB ETHERNET connection external HD? Does actually have one of these drives installed on a E3000 using win xp pro? I did search high and low here, but could not find a list of acceptable external Ethernet drives or size limitations.Burnt once, lesson learned, will not get burnt again.

I am using a brand new Linksys EA3500. We have 2 laptops connecting to it. One is an older XP machine which never has any problem. The other, a Vista machine, periodically drops the connection to the internet when connecting wirelessly. It never loses the connection to the Linksys EA3500 router, it just says "Access: local" and there is no internet. If I plug the Vista machine in wired to the router it works fine. I've tried my old router and I don't get this problem, which leads me to believe that my wireless adapter is functioning properly on the Vista machine.
When the vista machine drops the internet, I can still get into the router configuration at 192.168.1.1, but when I click on the tab which says wireless it sometimes says: "Router not found. You are not connected to your router." It says this despite the fact that I am connected to the router?I've tried reinstalling Windows, that didn't make any difference. I am convinced that it is a problem with the router, but I can't find any settings to adjust which remedy the situation. Of coarse, I've tried reseting my modem and Router many times...doesn't resolve the issue. I've also gone into DOS and done an ipconfig release_all and renew_all.

I've got a router in room where my cable modem comes in. In center of house, I have another router, N Ultra Range PLUS, WRT160N.
My laptop, which I use in front room near that middle room router and my husband's desktop, also near that middle room have no problems. My desktop which is right next to the main router in back of house (where the cable modem is), has the weakest signal. I guess that's because the WRT160N is further away from it and has two walls to go through. But most of time signal was good - just not as good as the other two computers. And even when signal was Low, it never dropped connection.
Recently I got a new smart phone with WIFI. Anytime I have turned on the phone and used it, I often then have to refresh my wireless signal or reboot computer because it loses the connection. I read somewhere on internet that this may be because of the additional device but again, it doesn't effect the other two closer computers.

I did some testing with a few wireless N routers and then decided to buy a Linksys e 2500 as it was on a special for $66 in Australia. The wireless routers i tested were (Belkin brand new model / Netcomm & Dlink Used ones)1. Netcomm N800n Fastest wireless transfer speed 9MBytes or 72 MBPS.2. Dlink - Around 6MBytes/s or 48MBPS.3. Belkin - Around 4-5 MBytes/secDid not test the Linksys before buying it.4. Linksys E 2500 - around 5MBytes/s = 40MBPS.After all this testing, got a new Linksys believing that a cisco device should have good quality. My problems is that the connection speed on the device stays a 72BPS whereas on the Netcomm / D-link it used to be 130mbps. Not that this bothers me, however the file transfer speed matches the Link status connection speed. The router was placed at exactly the same location, file transfer was checked by transferring large file sizes.Lan setup is1. Belkin ADSL 2+ (Modem with Wireless b/g and Voip) only being used now as an ADSL Modem and VOIP service.2. Cisco linksys e 2500.3. Media centre PC which has a wired connection to linksys e 2500.4. Main PC (Connected wireless to the linksys). The network adapter is a DLINK DWA125 N150 adapter (2.4GHZ only). The distance between the wireless adapter and the wireless router is approximately 12 feet and there is direct line of sight.5. IPAD.5. Using 2.4GHZ as i dont have a 5GHZ adapter yet. Router is only on wireless N mode.I was better off using a second hand Netcomm rather than a brand new Cisco router. The cisco router has 4 internal antennas, whereas the netcomm one had only 2 external antennas. My signal strength is excellent. Only problem is the slow internal transfer between the Main PC and the Media Center PC. Main PC is Core i7 950 where as the Media Centre is a Core 2 Duo e6400GHZ with 4GB Ram. Both PCs running Windows 7 Ultimate (Main PC) , Professional (Media Centre PC). My network knowledge is decent. Is there any settings in the advanced Wireless mode for the Linksys that can make my internal file transfers faster. [code]

Issue: Working on the internet, my computer (LAN) disconnects, Laptop (WAN) disconnects, but the router does not disconnect. The light that shows connection to net flashes like crazy (showing ADHD *** activity), the network lights just stay stable (showing no activity). After 5-10 minutes the problem sometimes fixes itself, or, more likely, I unplug the router, wait 2 minutes, plug it back in. Sometimes it works right away, sometimes it takes a second unplug. My computer is wired to the router which connects to a modem. The modem is not mine, its installed by my ISP.
Failed attempts to fix:Replace router. Bought brand new Netgear (will put numbers in here later) to replace the Dir-825.Same issues. In fear of malware, spyware, etc (I run a tight ship on my computer, I love it dearly and I'm mildly paranoid), I formatted the SSD, reinstalled Windows 7 64bit. Same issues. My ISP has to authorize every connection, so I've used the router to use my Mac Address and I can connect with the cable directly in the back of the computer, or to the router

I have experienced some strange behavior of WiFi connection using WRT320N router. ISP provides me the internet in 2 modes (day and night). During day mode max speed is 24 Mb/s and during night 60 MB/s. Modem ADSL (Cisco EPC3010) is connected to Linksys WRT320N and on router is configured WiFi.Now issue. In the day mode everything is perfect. Cable connection gives me 24 MB/s and WiFi connection around 22 MB/s so not so bad. However when my internet speeds up to 60 Mb/s (cable connection via router gives exactly 60), WiFi connection instead speed up as well, just drop to max 17 Mb/s. I have tied several different settings on the router including changes in WiFi band, channel width, different channels (now channel is setup to 1 which is maybe not totally free but no so occupied) and others but unfortunately without significant improvement (in many cases connection just slowed down more).
And some details:
Wireless configuration (now)
Band: 2.4GHz
Mode: Wireless-N only
Channel Width: Auto (20MHz or 40 MHz)
Channel: 1
Wireless adaptor: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (I know that this doesn’t mean anything but Win7 shows that connection is established with speed 144MB/s)Router firmware and WiFi card updated to the newest version.

I installed dd-wrt latest for this router but it wont show any connections to the ports. I can connect to the router with my internet port connected to the computer but that is it. I tried connecting the modem to a port connection and it showed connected. I'm confused as the firmware loaded fine. May be I went over my abilities which is usually the case.

I have been using the E3000 for quite a while. A problem that I could not find a solution to is that the devices connected through Ethernet can't be viewed on Wireless, and vice versa. This is especially annoying because I want to get access to my media servers over wireless, for obvious reasons, but even those are not viewable (and using IP addresses on portables is a pain in the back)

My Cisco E3000 has slowed it's Ethernet speed so slow that it times out when going to Facebook, YouTube or any site that is complex. It worked fine until one day it just gave up. It's connected to DSL Modem with Ethernet To a Apple Mac G5 power PC There are two other older macs connected via Ethernet, same problem. When I took the router out of the chain, and connected G5 directly to modem, normal internet speed. My firmware is up to date. Both wireless bands work great. When I look at Cisco Connect, everything looks normal. factory settings.

I have a E3000 with a USB hard drive plugged into it. It works perfectly as a shared storage drive from all my computers. But as a Media Server it is not working. I purchased a Sony SMP-N200 Steaming Media Server that found all the PCs in the house and can stream music and photos fine. It does not see the shared USB drive connected to the E3000. Sony's web site says it uses DLNA to find and stream music and photos. It says Windows 7 is one example of DLNA When I go to DLNA.org and check to see what routers are DLNA compliant, it says the Cisco E4200 and E4200v2 is. Is Cisco going to make a firmeware upgrade to include DLNA for the E3000?

* ADSL modem connected to internet
* WiFi router (Netgear WPN824v2) connected to ADSL modem
* CPU, iPhone and iPad connected to router, CPU wired connection.Everything has worked like a charm up until a couple of days ago. Now the link between the router WAN port and the modem randomly drops. Stays dropped for 1-3 secs and then connect again. When its really bad this happens with 5-10 secs intervall. This made it impossible to use the network from any of the devices. If I disconnect the CPU from the router and connect it direcly to the modem and change the IP settings to match the modem network the CPU connects without errors to the internet, iPad and iPhone connected to the router keeps having problems.Restarting the router does not change anything and it seems to be more frequent errors during heavy load hours, in the morning I have almost no problems at all, in the evenings I cant almost use the wireless devices (CPU works fine as its now connected directly to the modem not through the router).I havent changed a setting in the last year, it just came right out of the blue.I have hard reset both the modem and the router and reconfigured them (that I dont want to do again as I have some virtual servers, port forwards, port triggers and so on :P).As it came right out of the blue without me changing anything on any device and as it seems to be more frequent during heavy load hours I'm suspecting that the ISP is involved, but how can they be (it works fine with devices connected straight to the modem)?

I upgraded to firmware version 1.0.03 I started to have this weird issue: I have four PCs connected to this wireless router via wireless G. They all run Windows 7 Home Premium. After a few hours I started to notice that the DHCP client table is empty even if all four PCs are connected to the internet. This causes a networking problem because one of the PC serves as a file server and it grants access by IP addresses. Not being able to "see" those computers, my access is denied.

My DIR-825 stays on even when I flick the power switch, for as long as I don't disconnect the externally powered Belkin USB hub from it. Some lights do come off, Internet light turns orange, but it stays on. If I disconnect the hub before trying to shut down the router, it turns off instantly.
I feel slightly worried by this because as far as I am aware, a USB client device shouldn't be feeding power to the host. On the other hand, the host shouldn't be accepting power from the client either.
Also, sometimes after days since last reboot, the USB light on the router is not on despite connected devices, and they may or may not appear in Shareport.

The route is connected to that. Wirelessly, there are two laptops and sometimes an iPad and sometimes a Wii. Verizon DSL. I barely use my laptop during the week, but did notice some connection issues maybe Thursday and Friday nights. All day yesterday and today, as well. I will have a connection for maybe 5 minutes and then get errors loading webpages (and/or videos stopped). I will repair the connection and it will say everything is fine but it will not work, repair again or disconnect/reconnect(sometimes, several times) and then it works for 5 minutes or 20 minutes before the same thing happens. The other laptop is having the same problems. What I have tried so far: restarting the PC, both laptops, the router, and the modem. Resetting the modem. I have not moved any furniture or anything that would cause interference. I am worried because I have been trying to make more money and started at this site called Treasure Trooper which seemed okay-surveys and the like. There were a few pay-to-download things I downloaded but did not run. Avira found a trojan and I deleted it (not sure if the two are related, but I can not think of anything else I have downloaded or installed in the past month or so).The old PC is off; the Wii is on but probably only maintains a small connection. The iPad and other laptop are not mine, but if either is on, they probably have little to no activity right now since the user is away.

I have a DIR-655 Rev B1, FW 2.01 (I will probably upgrade the FW tonight to the latest.)
I have at least 20 items that connect wirelessly to this router (2 PCs, 2 Laptops, 2 Tivo Box, 3 Game Consoles, 3 Cell Phones, 2 Tablets, 2 TVs, Printer, AP Gateway, and some other projects) It's been a solid connection to everything for the past couple of years.
I bought a new Dell Inspiron 15r SE laptop (uses the Intel Centrion Wireless-N 2230 Wifi Solution.) After anywhere from 2 - 10 mins of browsing/watching a video/downloading files the access out to the internet simply stops.
At this point I'm still connected wirelessly to the router, and if I go to the router address I still have access and can login and see the router settings. I check and there's plenty of time left on the lease (days.) Still not getting internet access. Eventually my Laptop will disconnect and reconnect (or I do it manually.) I've performed hard resets of the router, I've had my laptop Forget the network and then reconnect, etc. Nothing has resolved it.
I thought it may be my laptop, but I've taken it to Starbuck, Work, Neighbors WiFi, etc and I don't have any problems staying connected on their networks.
I've had Dell on the line, we connected hardwired, and there solution was to force forget and reconnect to the router, which worked for the 10min he was on the line with me, but then failed soon after, and back in the same connectivity hell

I recently switched my router from an older Linksys WRT 54GS to an E3000. The WRT 54GS was working perfectly fine, but I needed to upgrade to a 802.11n router to use with some of my devices at home. I unplugged all the cables from the WRT54GS, and connected all the cables into the E3000 - in the exact same sockets and order they were on the old router. When powering on, all the lights eventually turned on (Power, Internet and Ports 1 to 4), except the wifi is still off. I tried running the installation CD, but it says it cannot find the network. I tried a reset (back button) as well as 30-30-30 reset, but no matter what I do, the wifi indicator still doesn't turn on. When switching back to the old router, it has no problem broadcasting a wifi signal again. Is there anything else I should try, either on my PC settings or the E3000 router itself?

I have the E3000 router. I set it up about a month ago and had my laptop and iphones and ipads all hooked up and working great. About two weeks ago, all of my devices are having problems connecting to the network and if they do connect, it is unstable (slow speeds or constantly dropping from the network). I know it is not the internet due to the fact that my LAN connection (hardwired) runs great. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. I have restored to factory defauls and started over setting it up with no change in performance. I have the latest drivers on the router and the laptop. I thought maybe it was vista and my laptop or network card, but the fact that I cannot get my phones or ipads to connect with good performance I am starting to think it is something to do with the router. Also, just for more info, I am using Chater cable internet. I am running vista 64x on the laptop.

My internet connection setup is: PC -> Trendnet 632 BRP wi-fi router (via Ethernet cable) - > D-Link DSL-2520U modem (via Ethernet cable, PPPoE) -> Internet. I have other devices connected to my Trendnet router via Wi-Fi connection (Notebook, PS3, XBOX, iPhone). My ISP gave me two DNS servers wich I have entered in my Trendnet. But when I look at the DNS tab in my D-Link I see two different DNS servers witch is not the same I entered in Trendnet.hey was set automatically when I created new DSL connection. I've also tried to leave the DNS adress tab as it was by default (0.0.0.0) in Trendnet router and after that my network still works normal. And when I look at the WAN status tab in Trendnet settings the DNS servers is set automatically to 192.168.1.1.So I have 3 questions for you:1) Do I really need to enter those DNS servers that my ISP gave me or I can just leave it to DHCP to manage them?2) If I have entered ISP's DNS servers in Trendnet then witch DNS servers is actually I'm using the ones my ISP gave me or the ones that my D-Link have picked automatically?

This is another E3000 "connection drops" thread. Some background: I have two E3000's that are cascaded. The main router is in my basement connected to my cable modem and is my DHCP server. The second one is on the main floor and provides my wireless signal (no DHCP, and is hard connected to the main router).I have lots of connection drops with the wireless router on the main floor. Lately I have noticed a trend, though. My connection drops mostly when I browse my network (usually browsing pictures on another computer) or when large files or videos are being transferred. If I connect a cable, I have no problems. When wireless, I have signal drops.I have tried every trick and tip that I've seen on this forum or been provided in the Linksys FAQ. I've changed the beacon interval, fragmentation threshold to 2306 and CTS to 2307, I've tried changing channels, I've checked and unchecked boxes for NAT, Filters, etc. I've tried different combinations of WPA2 passwords. I've tried dynamic routing, static routing, blah blah blah...
When I set the 5Ghz channel to Auto(DFS) it defaults to channel 36 and 144Mbps. When I use other channels, I get 300Mbps. Either way, my connections still drops.
I have the latest firmware 1.0.04 Build 6.I even have the router sitting on top of a laptop cooling pad to keep it cool.No matter what I do, as soon as I start browsing my network the wireless connection drops.I am so frustrated! I upgraded my WRT-160N to this E-300 router to get the faster speed and dual band but have had nothing but trouble. I never had a connection drop with my 160N.
EDIT: I notice that when my signal drops, I can see the power LED blinking on the router, like it's going through a reboot cycle.

I've recently upgraded my home network and now my wdtv can't connect to my shared hdd's on my pc for streaming purposes. Previously I had some piece of **bleep** G router/modem combo from Verizon and I didn't have any problems accessing my network shares, I did have a streaming problem with some .mkv's because the signal was so poor. I Finally dropped some cash on a d-link modem and an linksys E3000 router. Here's the messed up part, if my wdtv is plugged, physically, into my router I can access my shares just fine. I can stream movies with out any lag what so ever. If I go wireless (as I have previously been with the old westell router/modem combo) I can no longer see my network shares. I can connect to the internet and do netflix, pandora, ect. But when I go under network shares all that shows up is my router..
