I have a small network of around 5 PCs,I have 8MB shared connection from ISP,so when I run speed test check from one of my PC it returns around 1.76 Mb download and 0.07 Mb Upload Speed,if I connect one of the PC directly to modem and run the test again so can I get 8MB of speed?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI did a network test with Passmarks Performancetest. I'm running a 10/100 network with all devices connecting at 100Mb. On Performancetest there are 2 tests to run for Network speed, TCP and UDP. The TCP speed test came back with an average 62000kbps (7.5Mb), and the UDP was 89000kbps (10.8Mb). As I'm running a 100mb network, shouldn't the results of been higher?

If I start a Speed test the result its only 4M in download, while i remove the router and i connect my Pc directly to modem, the speed test results its 13-14M.

6x 85Mbps homeplugs in different rooms, each connected to a 5 port switch
2x rooms contain a PC
5x rooms contain a Squeezebox of various types
Router connected to homeplug
I have realised that I am only getting very slow network speeds of between 10-15Mbps (LAN SPeed Test)which affects Squeezebox's ability to play several devices synched up at a time playing 320Kbps MP3s
I have done some proprietory testing in my home by switching devices on & off & testing network speed accordingly but no significant gains seem to be made. One PC seems to report far lower speeds though at 5Mbps which is 3 times lower than the other PC. They are set up to read/write files from eachothers shared folders (but not simultaneously).1st question is, am I being realistic about the speed of data throughput I expect on a network of this type? I was expecting a much higher speed like 50Mbps.I wouldn't mind investing in the faster Homeplug system but having to buy 6x adapters isn't worth it if I will only get a marginal improvement.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI did a simple speed test comparing my EA3500 and Linksys WRT54GL. I used DSL Reports for the test. I was quite shocked and am wondering if the difference is due to the poor wireless driver in the Classic firmware that was updated in the Cloud firmware. Here are my numbers: EA3500, Classic firmware Download average 475 kb/s Upload average 725 kb/sLinksys WRT54GL Ver 1.1 (latest firmware) Download average 3250 kb/s Upload 725 kb/s
Needless to say I have gone back to my trusty WRT54GL until Cisco decides if it will update the Classic firmware and give us 2nd class Cisco customers the same hardware the 1st class Cloud customers have. Time will tell.
I installed an E1200 router today. It automatically upgraded the firmware to the latest when I did this. Everything went smoothly.
I connected my desktop wired and my laptop wireless. I ran three different speed tests: Xfinity, speedtest, and cnet. All three showed 25-35 Mbps download and 4-5 Mbps upload. That is what my old router had too. So far, so good.
I ran the speed test that came with the E1200 router. It showed 0.30- 0.66 Mbps download and 0.58 - 2.09 Mbps upload. Note the decimal points!
Bottom line: The E1200 seems to be working fine, except that its internal speed test seems to be broken, at least when testing from a wired machine.
Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.
This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00

What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.

During bandwidth tests to several sites (principally speedtest.net) I get ping times of 10-11 ms, download speeds of 12+ to 17+ mbps but failure on upload tests using my DIR-655.
When I bypass the 655 and test directly with my cable modem, all (including upload) tests work reliably and consistently.
I have swapped the two ethernet cables involved as well as replacing both with new cables but the results are the same (uploads fail with 655 and work without it)
I have seen several postings over the the last year with this same problem but have never seen any comment from D-Link, or a solution from any reader.
Not that it should have any bearing, but I have TA785GE-128M motherboard and am running Windows 7 (patch current) on COMCAST

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using a laptop to stream videos through my xbox for over 2years until recently. I setup a wireless network in the house to do this. All was fine until 3 days ago.I use a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7. I have a Dell Wireless 1397 Minicard, a cisco router (model #2425). Since my laptop was infected by Malware, my network has not worked since. I downloaded Malwarebytes Anti Malware to get rid of it and it appeared to work. I got internet access back. However, I still cannot connect to my network (visible in the Available Network list as normal) or stream any media.Windows Media Centre also has stopped opening and gives me the small box saying 'windows is checking for a solution', then closes with nothing. I can however open WMC if I right click and 'run as administrator'?! I have disabled all other network adaptors, only the Dell minicad is enabled and also tried disabling and enabling this main one with no effect. All problems point to the fact that my laptop can no longer connect to the home network but I cant figure out why?!Another (possibly unrelated) problem is occuring at boot up where I get an error message saying 'Bluetooth Software License not found. Sometimes a 4.1GB ISO will stop at 2GB, other times at 4.0GB.
