Home Network Setup - Speed Up Connection?

I have connected my Vista laptop to my old XP laptop using a network cable so that I can share files, printers, etc freely.I have forgotten the correct proceedure for doing this, although the two computers eventually, after a long time link up and I am able to share files. I have done nothing else. I have not entered numbers or anything. The number spaces are blank.I do not understand why it is working at all, but how do I speed up the connection?

i want to setup a remote desktop connection for 3 computers on the same network to connect to remotely. Originally i was going to port forward the original windows RDP port and run the windows rdp service but learnt that XP Home Edition doesn't support this feature. I want to be able to log onto these computers at any time remotely with the need of accessing the computer before i connect.

I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

I have a small network of around 5 PCs,I have 8MB shared connection from ISP,so when I run speed test check from one of my PC it returns around 1.76 Mb download and 0.07 Mb Upload Speed,if I connect one of the PC directly to modem and run the test again so can I get 8MB of speed?

I have a homeplug network as follows:
6x 85Mbps homeplugs in different rooms, each connected to a 5 port switch
2x rooms contain a PC
5x rooms contain a Squeezebox of various types
Router connected to homeplug
I have realised that I am only getting very slow network speeds of between 10-15Mbps (LAN SPeed Test)which affects Squeezebox's ability to play several devices synched up at a time playing 320Kbps MP3s
I have done some proprietory testing in my home by switching devices on & off & testing network speed accordingly but no significant gains seem to be made. One PC seems to report far lower speeds though at 5Mbps which is 3 times lower than the other PC. They are set up to read/write files from eachothers shared folders (but not simultaneously).1st question is, am I being realistic about the speed of data throughput I expect on a network of this type? I was expecting a much higher speed like 50Mbps.I wouldn't mind investing in the faster Homeplug system but having to buy 6x adapters isn't worth it if I will only get a marginal improvement.

In my home We have 3 pcs.
1. my personal PC1
2. home or general PC2
3. wireless PC (not important here.)so PC1 and PC2 are connected directly to internet via this [URL] modem router. I have full control over everything and I did setup the whole thing.We have a limited bandwidth internet plan, but a lot of bandwidth is easily used up by PC2.I want to limit the speed of internet access on that PC2 so that downloading becomes impossible or difficult.

I have ADSL modem in my workplace that is connected to a switch and other workplace computers are connected to this switch so the ADSL internet is shared in LAN network.(in each of computer I set default Gateway to ip of modem .....)I want to dial my workplace from home and then use of workplace internet or connect to workplace LAN.(such as VPN or Port Forwarding or I don't know...)

I want to setup a DC++ HUB for sharing data within the university local network. We have addresses of the form 172.31.*.*. These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). And data featching should prefferably be from many hosts, using multiple connections so that speed can be improved..

Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.
This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00
It is a Broadcom Wireless N...
What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.

Can I have two wireless networks running in the house? Does a low internet speed affects my home network sharing capabilities? Can I have one network with internet and the other one just intranet. I would like to stream using DLNA without affecting my internet speed. I have D-link router DGL-4500 and another router Cisco Linksys E1000 new in a box.The internet provider in my area only provides up to 750KBps. I have a router supplied by my ISP, Verizon[a g-router] using with 2 desktop and 2 laptop computers. All but 1 laptop are still running XP.So far I have not tried to print over the network. The printer is connected to the desktop that is also wired to the router.how to setup printing across this wireless network. Must I setup another internal home network in order to do wireless printing?

I have a SMC Rogers router and need to extend the range due to dead spots in house. I have purchased a D-Link N300 dir-615 router . can i just hook it to the eathernet lines I have on the second floor to extend range of the wireless network? I'm trying to set up my home network with two routers. One as the LAN router and the other as the access point. I have a really nice router and an older router, I'll just leave it at that. One router will be connected to the modem, the other in my game room for the wireless access point. I want to use the nicer, newer router as the LAN router or the wireless access point?

I have an exhibition next saturday on network monitoring and I was given ftp server monitoring project. I'm only allowed to used linux based OS for this project. Right now I have 3 notebook. 1 as a client, 1 as a router and another 1 is for monitoring. I am extremely new to network but also excited with the things you can achieve with a Cisco switch.For about 3 months I sat down looking at my "Cisco C2950-24 Switch", this surely for such a beastly looking thing it must be able to do something other than just allow you to plug in cables. So with that said I started to do some reading and watched a couple of You Tube Videos.I am on the route to complete my first goal and thats have my own VLAN setup with 1 Server and 6 clients. The Server is running ESXi therefore a few other servers are running inside it too.So my VLAN - VLANID 20 running the network 172.22.22.0. I am just wondering how to set up a home network with an old computer used as a server... we will have a wii, ps3, lap top, and 2 desktops connected to the network as well as two dell printers. The laptop runs windows XP and the desktops run windows vista. The old computer will will use as a server is windows xp or windows 98 (most likely wont use that computer). Cannot setup NAT on edimax router I ve got this setup: [URL] It works well - I can connect from TESTPC and LAPTOP (bottom left corner) to SERVERS A/B/C (bottom right corner) without any problem. Everything seems to be routed perfectly, however from SERVERS A/B/C I cannot ping TESTPC and LAPTOP, and I can't even establish an RDP connection.I was told to setup static routes or NAT, but I am at a loss on how to do it. I am having problems setting up a network, recently bought a used linksys router and had to restore to default settings. Now I am trying to set it up but I cant go to the ip 192.168... it times out, but when I go online and do the same thing I get a FW-1 at checky: Access denied. error. This is obviously my first time setting up a network using a router. what am I doing wrong? I checked drivers and I have tried plugging the cat5 into both internet and the 1st and 3rd port with little success, either a timed out connection or an error.

I am very newbie to networking. Although I am a newbie I managed to install Windows Server 2003 by following instructions got from Google but have not played around completely. I have 2 PCs with XP, 1 unmanaged switch. If I connect the 3 PCs (2 Xp clients + 1 server) using one unmanaged switch,
