i'm connected to the internet through a shared internet connection through a switch,and also have 3 computers connected to the same switch,what i want to setup a local network between the 3 computers but separated from the internet network?

These addressed are accessible within the university bu non routable outside on the internet. My plan is to setup a local HUB for DC++ for sharing data within the university intranet. So even if internet is unavailable data can be exchanged through LAN. This HUB must not be accessable outsied the university network.how should I do this all..implementing network sharing other than DC++. My basic idea is that everybody can share their data and the data is searchable from one common interface( Web interface is better option, if possible). And data featching should prefferably be from many hosts, using multiple connections so that speed can be improved..

Originally i was going to port forward the original windows RDP port and run the windows rdp service but learnt that XP Home Edition doesn't support this feature. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).
I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.

However, the problem is, the exe file tries to connect to the local host ip address 127.0.0.1 and i cant change the ip since it's been coded.So, I'm wondering if i can use the device connection (which already has a different ip like 169....) as a local host connection. So whenever it tries to connect to the loopback 127... it automatically connects to the external device.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi purchased vaio with win8. Under network icon, I can not see any other computers in the local network therefore not able to access shares unless i explicitly map the shares which is tedious.
On other computers running win7 and xp, each of them can see each other under network icon.However that is not the case with my laptop running 8. Actually i have seen once or twice all pc-s show up but most of the time, they dont appear.
I read somewhere that following service need to be checked to make sure they are running: upnp, ssdp in services. I checked those and they are all running.
I also enabled "turn on network discovery" under network and sharing->advanced sharing. setting. To make it more complicated there are private and public and all network setting. I enabled all items as follows:
1. Private Turn on network discovery is checked along with Turn on automatic setup of network connected devices Turn on file and printer sharing is selected Allow Windows to manage homegroup connections is selected.
2. Guest or public Turn on network discovery is selected Turn on file and printer sharing is selected.
With these settings I still dont see the local computers and their shares. Do I need to check anything else?
We have Linux server (CentOS) and nearly 120 computers in the local network (192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0) and nearly 20 computers have their own IP-address (real address). View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky.In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwhen I ping another workstation on my local network I should get back it's local IP but instead I am getting an ip address that resolves to somewhere in Germany! In fact if I ping any bogus name, I mean anything, it returns this same address 62.116.181.25. If I shut down my cable modem then everything resolves correctly. And yes I have DNS relay enabled because it seems to be the only way to get the workstations to resolve external sites correctly.

I have a AT & T Microcell Tower and 2 computers connected to the Router: a desktop running Windows XP Home Edition wired to the Router and a laptop running Windows 7 connected to the router wirelessly. Both computers connect to the Internet without any problem. However, they do not communicate with each other. The laptop indicates a home network with all 3 devices, but cannot communicate with the desktop. The desktop does not show any network at all. It only indicates a connection through the Router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using Comcast cable. I have a motorola cable modem. I run that into a Netgear 8-channel router with wireless (that's 8 physical network sockets).I have had these devices hard-connected to the router up until today and everything has been running fine:
* My Desktop (desktop running Windows 7 with Gigabyte motherboard and built-in Realtek NIC)
* T-Mobile VoIP device
* My Laptop (old Alienware running XP with generic NIC)
Today I took my old desktop motherboard from a year ago (Gigabyte motherboard, but not the same as My Desktop, built-in Realtek NIC), gutted it out, replaced the hard drive, got it running Windows 7 and set it up for my kids. Got it connected to the Internet early this morning when my machine was off and it ran fine.While it was updating, I fired up My Desktop and the router stopped working, all machines lost Internet, and I was at a loss.After some troubleshooting, it turns out that if I have My Desktop and the Kids Machine connected to the router and running at the same time, all devices on the router lose connection. I can have the Kids Machine on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. I can have My Desktop on with the T-Mobile device and My Laptop and they all work. But as soon as My Desktop and the Kids Machine come on together, everything gets hosed.The router is set to reserve different IP addresses by Mac Address for every machine. And I've verified that My Desktop gets its IP address correctly, and so does the Kids Machine. They are different IPs.I (usually) know just enough about networking to get a home network set up.
There are currently four computers in the house, all running Windows 7. Two of them are wired using homeplugs (different brands) and two of them are wireless.
I've tried using Homegroups but this never seems to work.Now that I have all the computers using the same OS I want to start from scratch and set up a basic home network so I can move files around between computers.
How do you set up a network of 2 computers so that one computer without the actual software on its hard drive can run programs that are on the other computers hard drive?

It can see it but when i try and connect i get the message that it was unable to connect or sometimes that i was able to connect but have limited connectivity.

Now I am trying to set it up but I cant go to the ip 192.168... it times out, but when I go online and do the same thing I get a FW-1 at checky: Access denied. error. This is obviously my first time setting up a network using a router. what am I doing wrong? I checked drivers and I have tried plugging the cat5 into both internet and the 1st and 3rd port with little success, either a timed out connection or an error.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am working with a friend who has a home office that is not in a location where DSL or Cable is available. His only option for internet is using a hotspot - in this case, the Elevate Hot Spot from AT&T.
He needs to network two computers so that he can enable QuickBooks Pro in multi user mode - i.e., data file shared on Computer A, accessed by Computer B.
I thought at first that perhaps I could just setup a wireless connection for the office network - however, whenever that connection is on, then obviously neither computer can access the hotspot.
Trying to keep this at *minimal* cost.
My best idea is to old school network - i.e., connect the two computers via crossover ethernet. Am I correct that this will work? Seems to me that then both computers *should* still be able to access the hotspot via their wifi, yet also be networked for file sharing.
My questions are:
1.) Is this a correct assessment?
2.) Are there any road blocks I should be thinking about?
3.) Any reason not to do a direct connection (i.e., any reason I should entertain connecting to a switch instead?)
4.) Is there a certain order I should do things?

I restored an old Vista laptop to out-of-the-box state to give to my Dad. This laptop had a wireless connection to the internet and network previously. After the restore, I can't get a connection to the internet, even though my router sees it and it has an ip address. It says Unidentified Network Local Access only, and it doesn't see any of the computers on the network. Sometimes the other computers see it but can't connect, sometimes, the other computers don't see it. I hate Vista.

All my other eight devices have an internet connection no problem, but I powered off the modem and router a couple of times with no change. I tried updating the Atheros to the latest driver on Toshiba's website for this model, but it doesn't seem to take. If I uninstall the old drivers, Windows rudely just immediately reinstalls them again. If I just update the driver, and pick the new file, the driver version remains the same as the previous driver. I'm banging my head on the wall with the driver

I have a media player on my home network, which consists of 3 desktop pcs (1 xp home, 1 win 7 home p, and 1 win 8 pro) and 2 nas boxes. Nothing is wireless, all cabled. All pcs can talk to each other and the nas boxes, all have internet access.Problem is when I try to access pc files with my media player. It can access the nas boxes and the xp pc fine, but when i attempt the win 7 or 8 pcs it asks for ausername/password. The win 8 pc has both, but the media player wont accept them, and the win 7 pc has never had a password. I tried putting a password on the win 7 pc, but the media player rejects the user and pw.
