i have a problem in the my local network.i have 5 computer.i share a Folder on computer 1. i see this folder on another computer but when i want to open this folder on computer 2 ,computer 3,computer 4 and computer 5 show the connect to computer 1 dialogbox and it say must insert username and password.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky.In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.

In fact if I ping any bogus name, I mean anything, it returns this same address 62.116.181.25. If I shut down my cable modem then everything resolves correctly. And yes I have DNS relay enabled because it seems to be the only way to get the workstations to resolve external sites correctly.

If I try to ping it, Sometimes I manage but more often it fails.. Any time the browser says dns error - server cannot be found. Yet when i try and access the folder from My Computer, it tells me that it is not accessible and that access is denied.Ive done the same for every other user who should have access, with no problems.

When I click on it, nothing happens. I've tried multiple browsers including IE 10 (Windows 8 RTM), Firefox 15, and Chrome 21. I also tried on a Windows 7 machine with IE 9 and the link doesn't work on that either except that it shows a box that says Invalid Character when I click on the DHCP Reservations link. I see no invalid characters on the screen. Any workaround other than downgrading the firmware or assigning static IPs on individual PCs?Also, on an unrelated note, where is the Dynanic DNS configuration on the Cisco Connect Cloud?

Both work fine, very easy to set up, however I am unable to edit settings for the shared folder, which means I am unable to password protect it.
I don't need a password for local sharing but obviously it isn't ideal to have files freely available on the Internet, have looked into troubleshooting but can't find any similar stories with Netgears.I click "edit" or "create network folder" and it loads for a second or two but just stays on the same page. There is only one option to select but I have tried clicking the radio button first anyway, then clicking edit, same result.
One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a little older computer (Dell Dimension 9200) which I want to use as a server at home. I have formatted it and installed Windows XP - ready to be used. The other computers that will connect to this server are running Windows 7.
The problem is that the stationary pc (the one I am trying to make a server) does not appear on the "what network folder would you like to map?" part on the laptop. The server/the Dell Dimension 9200 is connected to the internet, and is fully updated through Windows updates. All the other computers in the house appear on the one laptop, but not the computer I am trying to make a server out of.
I have been using FrontPage 2003 successfully and recently as of 2 days ago...I wanted to edit the website and the files are ALL missing. UGH!!!! Its very frustrating that I cannot edit the website now and we are missing valuable information. I did see the files when I created a new Network Place with the prefix but I cannot edit and save to our website. Now I did ask MyHosting administrator but they are seriously taking longer to get back to me then needed. I can open Front Page, but of course, cannot publish anything to the website. More so, even just opening the files in server.com is the actual issue because I cannot change the website page. That's the files I need to change in Front Page. I did go to my account settings within myhosting server to the File Manager and YES! I could see all the files....but again I cannot save anything to the website or publish..I DID NOT DOWNLOAD anything over the past few days and have not gone to unauthorized websites that would have provided a virus. Everything else works fine.
