One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....

My project involves 1 computer and a firewall. My goal is to use the firewall to allow access to the internet for that computer which uses a static IP 192.168.1.5 and ONLY for that IP address. The firewall is connected to the internet.
I have the computer hooked up to the firewall with the serial and using hyper terminal to enter commands. I think I need to use access lists in order to deny traffic on those ports for those particular hosts. I can't figure out exactly how I need to set it up.
What I need to do is permit internet access for 192.168.1.5 alone. Any other IP should not be able to access the internet.
I tried:
access-list 1 permit tcp host 192.168.1.5 any eq 80
access-group 1 in interface inside
I cannot access the internet using the computer with 192.168.1.5. The goal is to be able to access with that IP and no other.
I have a Linksys WRT54GS router that I have installed dd-wrt on.My household is overloaded with wireless devices, and living in a home of 6, speeds for everyone seem to slow down drastically later at night when everyone is simultaneously connected and streaming media -- whether it be Netflix, YouTube, etc.. My typical speed wired to the router with no other connections is around 25 mb/s down and 1-2 mb/s up.Obviously, it's going to slow to a crawl when we have an iPad, 3 iPod touches, an iPhone, a Wii (playing Netflix) and 4 PCs all connected simultaneously.What I need to do is give my personal computer priority and throttle all other devices. So that I myself will have decent speeds while hampering all of the other household connections. I rely on those speeds for my job and that should have priority over my brother watching music videos on YouTube.

Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. View 3 Replies View RelatedRoughly 10 or so computers and 10 or so printers connected to a server 2003 machine with att dal internet. Upgraded to att uverse and because of our program that we use (hotel management software) we have to keep the gateway / ip's all the same. Well for whatever reason, just so happen that our specific info that we have to use, the uverse modem has reserved for its self and we cant use it on there. We hook up a cisco e1000 router and have it act as the gateway so that we can configure our settings the way we need. Get everything going just perfectly fine. Sometime that night, 2 of the computers lose server/networked files access, but still have internet access. They only lose access to shared files, printers, etc... Logging off/on or restarting the pc's fixes the problem. But then every night almost like clockwork around the same time frame, it all happens again. I've changed ip's on the machines, changed settings here and there, but nothing has fixed the problem. The biggest pain is, I cant replicate the problem, I have to waot until that night to know if what I did worked or not. The last thing I tried was changing the lease expire timer in the router from 24 hours to 7 days. I figured I'd give that a try since it seems that its almost 24 hours exactly between errors.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky.In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.

In fact if I ping any bogus name, I mean anything, it returns this same address 62.116.181.25. If I shut down my cable modem then everything resolves correctly. I want to be ablt to use a specific DNS server rather than the one issues by my ISP.No matter what values are in the Static DNS 1, 2 and 3 the router continues to pull a DNS from my ISp. My POS old D-link 615 was able to utilize a custom DNS server with no issues so surely ther emyst be a way to do the same on the E4200.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a DHCP server for a subnet that has only lightweight WAP's in it. The DHCP server is running on the gateway for this subnet which is a 3750X 2 switch stack running 12.2(53r)se2.I have the following configured:

The server hands out up to 18 IP addresses and no more, with 20 devices on the subnet. Scanning the subnet with a 3rd party network management system I see the following IP's never get handed out or used:
10.1.10.161 - 162 (manually excluded)
10.1.10.167 - 168
10.1.10.171 - 176
10.1.10.178
and of course 2 IP's I have manually excluded, 11 IP's in all that wont get handed out. It should only be 2 that don't get handed out. I've double and triple checked the exclusion and thats the only one. so I run a 'sh ip dhcp pool' and see this:

[edit]I should also mention that "sh ip dhcp bind" does not show these randomly excluded IP's in use. They also do not show up in any arp table I can find.I have looked all over the config and I cant find where these extra 9 addresses are being excluded. how to free up these 9 seemingly random exclusions? Haven't issued a reload and I haven't deleted and rebuilt the DHCP server yet, production network.
