View 1 RepliesHave a server linked to four computers and a laptop for a business and can't seem to access shared files on server from other computers as it keeps asking for username and password to access it. Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRoughly 10 or so computers and 10 or so printers connected to a server 2003 machine with att dal internet. Upgraded to att uverse and because of our program that we use (hotel management software) we have to keep the gateway / ip's all the same. Well for whatever reason, just so happen that our specific info that we have to use, the uverse modem has reserved for its self and we cant use it on there. We hook up a cisco e1000 router and have it act as the gateway so that we can configure our settings the way we need. Get everything going just perfectly fine. Sometime that night, 2 of the computers lose server/networked files access, but still have internet access. They only lose access to shared files, printers, etc... Logging off/on or restarting the pc's fixes the problem. But then every night almost like clockwork around the same time frame, it all happens again. I've changed ip's on the machines, changed settings here and there, but nothing has fixed the problem. The biggest pain is, I cant replicate the problem, I have to waot until that night to know if what I did worked or not. The last thing I tried was changing the lease expire timer in the router from 24 hours to 7 days. I figured I'd give that a try since it seems that its almost 24 hours exactly between errors.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy friends and I want to set up a better Teamspeak 3 server but Don't want to spend the money to rent one. We currently have a friend who runs the server on his computer but it is unreliable. We are wondering if we could have multiple computers support one server. So that if one computer fails the server would still get supported by other computers that are supporting the server. Also what would be some recommended hardware stats to run this server.
So I'm asking, can we have multiple computers support a single Teamspeak 3 server?
One of our servers recently lost its outbout network connectivity. It can ping and communiate with any computer on our LAN, but it can't communicate with anything outside our network. It has a statically asigned IP address, and can ping the default gateway. We haven't changed any settings on the firewall or gateway....

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an XP machine that is unable to see any other computer on the network. I disabled the firewall and I can ping any device on the network with no issue. I have set several other computers to the same workgroup which is mshome. Lastly I have read several other post and tried the ideas there including this one...Finally, let's do the stack repair.TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.
Start, ]R[/B]un, CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:
Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot the machine. That did not seem to work. As I am still in the same situation.
another note. This is the only XP on the network. Everyone else is Windows 7. Also on a side note, the reason I am doing this is to install a printer on this one and allow the other computers to print from it and seeing folders is good also.

I have a wireless router which works just fine. I can connect my laptop as well as my iPad to it. I also have a hard wire connection that goes to my computer which works just fine. how can I get my computer to see the other computers in the network? They just don't show up even though I have shared enabled. There is only one router, so I thought it might be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be.

My problem is the even though they are connected to the same wireless router and can each see the internet and the printer that online they cannot see each other. When I ping one from the other I get no response though they both receive responses from the router. I can't transfer files etc. It works a while ago but can't seem to get them connected again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy home network was made up of a desktop running windows XP home (wired) and a desktop also running XP (wireless). I have recently added a desktop running Windows 7 (wireless) to the system. When I turn on the Windows 7 machine, it sees the other two machines and I use the files from them easily. But after the new machine has been on awhile, it does not see the other computers. (I can, however, still access the shared files on it (the Windows 7 machine) from the other desktop (haven't checked the laptop). If I power down the Windows 7 and then turn it back on, the other machines show up immediately. I've got them all named to the same workgroup and in the network settings in the control panel, I think that it is set to discover the network.

Would closing a port completely restricted traffic through it? How about limiting it? I have DD-WRT firmware installed on my Linksys router. Am about to set up my new DIR-655. I noticed that the routers default IP is 192.168.0.1 The router it replaces used 192.168.1.1Since I have several devises on the network with fixed IPs 192.168.1.x (printer and Stora) and since I do not want to change them, can I leave them as is?Also, last time I changed the IPs that the router hands out, many computer could no longer see each other on the network, due to firewall issues. So, can I set the router to use a range like 192.168.1.xx even though the routers address is not changed? orshould I just change the router IP to 192.168.1.1 and change the range. Also do I need to change the mask if I do any of this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI seem to have a problem with my new PC build... it's getting connected to the internet, but it isn't finding the network everything else is using, which has left me more than a bit confused. It seems as though my new PC is on a network all its own (simply called "Network"). Meanwhile, my old machine and my housemate's machine (both running Win7 x64), as well as my Playstation 3, are all connected to the main network, which we named "Ostia."
The router is a Netgear WNR2000v2. It's wireless (though all three desktops and the PS3 are all wired), and we've had no problems connecting anything in the past. This is the only machine that can't get access. I've had friends come over with laptops to play games on several occasions and they've always been able to wirelessly connect to my network, or plug in a wired connection and find it as well. But my new PC doesn't see "Ostia." I can go to Control Panel Network and Internet Network and Sharing Center and click "see full map," and that shows me the full network (Internet, the router, and everything connected to said router). But for whatever reason, I can't seem to get my new machine into the Ostia network.
I've had zero problems with the internet on my new machine otherwise. It connects fine in IE9, Firefox, and Chrome. In Battlefield 3 and other online games, this machine is an absolute terminator, running every game I throw at it on max settings without dropping below 60-70 FPS with no lag of any sort. The only reason this is annoying is because I can't move shared files to and from this machine with the other two PCs.
How do I fix my network so that my Windows 7 and XP computers automatically detect each other on the network. Right now, they cannot browse each other by computer name, instead I have to type their IP addresses (for example: \192.168.2.5) in the windows explorer address bar, and then I can browse to their shared folders. And under "Network" (in Windows Explorer) each computer only displays itself, and not the other (unless I have already typed in the other's IP address, in which case it displays the other computer as the IP address).

I have resolved an issue where someone was testing a device on our network and assigned a static IP that was already in use by one of our printers. Specifically, I am curious if the IP conflict could have caused issues with mapped network drives for other computers. I just seemed to have network gremlins for the 2 days of the IP conflict.
