Sep 2, 2012I am studying for my CCENT and have two Cisco switches and three Cisco routers. I have 'configured' the switches and routers but how to obtain valid IP addresses to assign to my devices and how I can connect these devices to the internet via my wireless home hub.

Feb 25, 2012I can see what MAC addresses have a wireless session and I've used MAC Filtering to stop some MAC addresses from using the network at certain times, but they are still getting through to the internet. I don't know if they were to clone their MAC address as to whether this would show up with the cloned address in active sessions list. How I can stop some users from getting through at certain times? Any utility I can use on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.6. to show which computers/MAC addresses are on the network?

Dec 17, 2012I have a Motorola Surfboard Modem connected to a Netgear 24-port switch. I bought the WAP4410N to provide wireless connectivity from the switch.
All my PC's can get perfect connectivity via the switch but none of my wireless devices can connect at all.
Sometimes I can get 1 PC to connect but what's strange is I can view my networked folders and such but cannot access the internet.
I've upgraded the firmware to the latest May-2012. IPv4 and IPv6 are both set to automatic.

Nov 2, 2011I just thought if it's possible to make sure that only approved IP addresses for each of divisions of a company can be used.How can I assign for a port one/more public addresses and be sure that only this port is using it/them. Thing is I have only one 24 bit public Network ID provided to me by ISP. One IP address of the range is used for ISP's gateway. So I have 253 addresses to be distributed among divisions. However to avoid IP address conflicts I have to be sure that only dedicated for a division IP address/es is/are used by the division.
Router is 2821.
Switch is 2950.

Dec 2, 2010I'm currently replacing my ASA 5505 with a 5510. I have a range of public IP addresses, one has been assigned to the outside interface by the setup wizard (e.g. 123.123.123.124 ) and another I would like to NAT to an internal server (e.g 192.168.0.3 > 123.123.123.125). On my asa 5505 this seemed fairly straigh forward, i.e. create an incoming access rule that allowed SMTP to 123.123.123.125 and then create a static nat to translate 192.168.0.3 to 123.123.123.125. Since I've tried to do the same on the 5510 traffic is not passing through so I'm assuming that the use of additional public IP addresses is not handled in the same way as the 5505? I also see that by default on the 5505, 2 VLANs are created, one for the inside and one for the outside, where as this is not the case on the 5510. Is the problem that VLANs or sub-interfaces need to be created first? I'm doing the config via ASDM.
Everything else seems to OK i.e. access to ASDM via 123.123.123.124, outbound PAT and the site-to-site VPN.

So my steps would be shutting down ip address assignment off old firewall interface. Assign that ip address to ASA5510 outside interface and configure NAT.

May 6, 2011I have a PIX 515E that I want to use to as a border between my internet connection and my Cisco AIR1131AG. I have configured the PIX to have the outside interface as a dhcp client which gets its dynamic IP address from the cable modem. the AP is connected to the E1 inside interface. Now I could see the E1 interface from the arp table from the AP but I cannot ping it. From the firewall I don't see the ARP table from the firewall. and i cannot ping the AP. what is wrong with the configuration? side note, i am able to connect to the AIR1131AG from my laptop I was not able to retrieve an IP address.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 IPv6 Dual Stack Doesn't Assign IP Addresses
Feb 5, 2013My ISP recently started offering dual stack IPv6. After changing IPv6 from manual tunnel to automatic, none of my devices get an IPv6 address from the ISP. In the troubleshooting page, IPv6 address is also empty. I tried resetting the router but had no difference. We have another router (ASUS RT-53N) and it works fine.The ISP is using PPPoE for IPv4. In RT-53N I choose "IPv6 with DHCP-PD" and Interface "PPP". There're no such options in EA2700 though.

Aug 30, 2012I am administering a Catalyst 2960S switch and I would like to connect several computers to it. Some of those each have a static IP address. For a few of them, I would like the switch to dynamically assign an IP address to them via DHCP. Is the switch capable of doing this? If so, how can I do it? I tried looking through Cisco Network Assistant and I couldn't find it. Some web pages have suggested I telnet into the switch and issue commands like "ip dhcp ?" to see what commands are possible. I can telnet in and if I type but I get an "Unrecognized command" for both "ip ?" and "ip dhcp ?". This makes me think I'm reading the wrong web pages. I did come across the term "DHCP snooping". It seems relevant, but very difficult for me to grasp.

Dec 6, 2011I have an HP 510 laptop running windows xp. Wherever i go, i am able to connect through wifi with a password except for where i live. I have had no problems connecting anywhere else. All other laptops and pc's connect through the network i cant access. I get a 'limited or no connectivity' message with details displaying either 'network did not assign a network address to the computer', 'cannot connect to the internet' or 'cannot renew ip address. I reviewed a few older posts and have tried ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, ipconfig/all to no avail. i also tried netsh ip reset reset.log and netsh windows catalog(or something along those lines) from the earlier post i read, still nothing. I do notice that when i go to properties the wep password always reverts to one i did not enter, and once in a great while when i re-enter it the icon will show 'connected to network, excellent signal strength' but Internet Explorer says not able to connect. I cant seem to figure out why i connect fine everywhere else, and why every other 'guest' computer connects to this network.
i connect using Intel(R) PRO/wireless 2200BG under properties>general under properties>wireless networks>association use windows to config is checked under properties>network>properties the network authentication is 'open' and data encryption is set to 'wep' while the network key reverts to something i did not enter. key provided is not checked under properties>wireless networks>authentication 'enable ieee 802.1x authentication for this network is not checked

But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict.If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.
