Feb 24, 2013I have a Time Warner Cable business class service with no static IP, with a wireless modem which is plugged to a CAT5 distribution panel. On the jacks (2 other rooms on the house) I have a Linksys E3000 and a Linksys Valet router for signal boost and gadgets usage (TV, cameras, etc).The main router (TWC) has it's own external IP which TWC assigns to me and internally distributes via DHCP the range 192.168.0.x. With that said:
- The E3000 has a 192.168.0.6 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The Valet has a 192.168.0.7 IP -- this is fixed setup on the TWC router (ubee brand) by MAC address
- The main router has the 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and web-interface
Whenever I connect something to the E3000, it is distributing the 192.168.1.x range and the valet 192.168.2.x range.That works perfectly for my home based business until I decided to use more stuff on the network such as a IP printer, IP cameras, etc.
- The IP cameras are connected to the E3000 due to signal strength and I have manually assigned them the 192.168.1.15 and 192.168.1.16 IPs and ports 9001 and 9002.
- The printer is connected to the E3000 and I have manually assigned the IP 192.168.1.30.
Issue 1: Port forwarding On the main router (TWC - UBEE) I have tried to setup a port forwarding by informing the Local IP as 192.168.0.6 (E3000 IP), Internal Port 0, Public Interface IP (0.0.0.0), Ext Start Port 9001, Ext End Port 9001, Protocol - Both, Enabled Yes. On the E3000 I did the same config (screen shot attached e3000.png).This is not working properly. I can't get into the camera.
Issue 2: Printer/ The printer is only accessible if I connect to the E3000 (because it is on the 192.168.1.x network)
Issue 3: How to configure all the devices on the same subnet? If I want everyone to be on the 192.168.0.x network, how to configure properly the E3000 and the Valet? I have tried to force them into the same network but it would not work properly. It would not get an IP from the UBEE router (main).

I want to get the modem and router out of my computer room and in the basement where the cable enters the house. I want to do this to clean up the computer room wiring a bit and to run line drops to different rooms in the house where the internet will be utilized.Currently there are two PC's, a laptop, a tablet, sometimes a phone, and an XBOX using the internet. I want to get my printer back up and running on the network but thats another story. Only one PC is currently hardwired. I would like to run two cables into the room with the PC and XBOX that are currently using wireless, at least two into the computer room for the PC and network printer, and one or two into the living room for the blue ray player and possibly an internet tv.

I have cable connection with my PC and wireless with my laptop, they both just stop working without any visible reason. I believe I can only use 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.255 w/.254 subnet mask. The reason I asked is I was using a subnet calculator to try and figure this out but every time I put in 192.168.1.0 with .254 subnet mask it changed the ip to 192.168.0.1 to 192. 168. 1. 255.I would really like to use the netgear only. The way I have it now is not working I am able to ping the internet from the 192.168.1.0 network but I can't ping from 192.168.2.0 network to the 192.168.1.0 network.

Jul 13, 2012At the moment I have my home network (192.168.0.0/24) like as below (all connect using straight cables): [code] My Cisco lab equipment are in the basement all connecting to an access server which at the moment is plugged into Switch3-dumb (along with a printer & NAS).What I'm thinking is to replace the Switch3-dumb with a 3550 I'll be picking up later this week.Then using this to do as the Switch3-dumb did maybe by creating a native 'vlan 192' & putting it into a gig interface which will connect to the network using the straight cable, also putting the printer & NAS into the same vlan.This will hopefully still give me connectivity throughout.Then when required I'll like to use the 3550 with the rest of my Cisco equipment for setting up different labs (segmenting them from the home network by using different vlans etc.One of my reasons to implement the 3550 into the home network is to be able to play about on a regular basis (port monitor, traffic stats, etc).

Oct 11, 2011I have two Win XP machines. One is connected to the LAN and the other is a standalone. I have installed an additional network card on the machine connected to the LAN. That machine is linked to the standalone through a switch using the 162.198.1.xxx sequence of IPs, with 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask and no DNSWINS, or anything else. I can ping either machine from the other through the private network, but cannot see the files. I need to pull certain files from the standalone, but have not been able to even see them.

Dec 6, 2011I have an HP 510 laptop running windows xp. Wherever i go, i am able to connect through wifi with a password except for where i live. I have had no problems connecting anywhere else. All other laptops and pc's connect through the network i cant access. I get a 'limited or no connectivity' message with details displaying either 'network did not assign a network address to the computer', 'cannot connect to the internet' or 'cannot renew ip address. I reviewed a few older posts and have tried ipconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, ipconfig/all to no avail. i also tried netsh ip reset reset.log and netsh windows catalog(or something along those lines) from the earlier post i read, still nothing. I do notice that when i go to properties the wep password always reverts to one i did not enter, and once in a great while when i re-enter it the icon will show 'connected to network, excellent signal strength' but Internet Explorer says not able to connect. I cant seem to figure out why i connect fine everywhere else, and why every other 'guest' computer connects to this network.
i connect using Intel(R) PRO/wireless 2200BG under properties>general under properties>wireless networks>association use windows to config is checked under properties>network>properties the network authentication is 'open' and data encryption is set to 'wep' while the network key reverts to something i did not enter. key provided is not checked under properties>wireless networks>authentication 'enable ieee 802.1x authentication for this network is not checked
Creating A Private Network Within A Larger LAN
Mar 16, 2013I'm starting college in the fall and will be living in the dorms on campus. I want to have a "private network" setup within the university's network in my dorm room so my and my roommate's phones and iPads can still find my Apple TV, file sharing and network drives are still possible, and I can easily set up my network printer. Obviously, I don't want to lose Internet connectivity. Can I use NAT to accomplish this without losing Internet connection through the university?
how the sysops will hate me if they find me, I know this. It's not for malicious use, only for ease of use of my devices.
This may be totally off base, that's why I'm asking if this will work before I try it. I have an old WRT54G I would like to use if its capable, if not I'll buy a new one but I'm trying to avoid that. Here's what I'm thinking:

Jun 14, 2012I have a VPN with a number of servers where we are doing some software development. We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet.It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. They have Verizon service with its wireless router plus their own personal wireless router.The Actiontec mi424wr (rev i) wireless router is connected via Coax and will remain the first in line so as not to disrupt the set top boxes (STB) channel guide and other features managed by the Actiontec. The radio is active with an SSID of "ABC-Private" and its network is 192.168.1.xx. The thought is that only business personnel will connect to this router for internet.I have connected their Linksys WRT54GS to the LAN port of the Actiontec, using a static IP which I have allocated in the Actiontec's DHCP pool for this purpose. This radio is active with an SSID of "ABC-Guests" and its network is 192.168.2.xx. The thought is that only patrons will connect to this router for internet.
My overall goal is that business personnel will have unrestricted access to the internet AND to each other¦ while patrons will only have HTTP and HTTPS access to the internet¦ and no communications will be permitted between the two network subnets. I realize there are hardware firewalls designed for accomplishing such a goal, but the business hopes to avoid the additional expense, if the aforementioned model can provide this capability.In order to accomplish this goal, my remaining tasks as are follows:
