Windows 7 Starter Can't Obtain Valid IP Address From Home Network

Nov 9, 2012

I have recently bought a Asus Eee PC with Windows 7 starter. It will connect ok to public Wifi (i.e. at the Qantas lounge) but will not connect to my home Wifi network - Netcomm N150 Router. The two other computer at home (running full versions of Windows 7) work fine over this network. When I look at the Station list in the Router's interface the MAC address for the new laptop appears but it has no IP address. [code] Have tried the obvious things like power cycling.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3825 - Use HSRP Or VRRP If Not Two Valid / Unique Wan IPs To Assign Routers

Apr 24, 2008

Our ISP hands us an ethernet link.  ISP router has one address of (for argument sake) 1.1.1.0/30 net, - let's say they have 1.1.1.1 we have the other usable address of 1.1.1.2/30  assigned to our 3825 router.  Is it possible to use hsrp or vrrp if there is not two valid/unique "wan" IPs to assign to our routers?  For example, if we had a pair of 3825 routers?  are we stuck with basically a manual failover or requesting our isp to provide a larger address wan block?

I have a Motorola Surfboard Modem connected to a Netgear 24-port switch. I bought the WAP4410N to provide wireless connectivity from the switch.

All my PC's can get perfect connectivity via the switch but none of my wireless devices can connect at all.

Sometimes  I can get 1 PC to connect but what's strange is I can view my networked  folders and such but cannot access the internet.

I've upgraded the firmware to the latest May-2012. IPv4 and IPv6 are both set to automatic.

Cisco WAN :: 2821 How To Assign For A Port One / More Public Addresses

Nov 2, 2011

I just thought if it's possible to make sure that only approved IP addresses for each of divisions of a company can be used. How can I assign for a port one/more public addresses and be sure that only this port is using it/them. Thing is I have only one 24 bit public Network ID provided to me by ISP. One IP address of the range is used for ISP's gateway. So I have 253 addresses to be distributed among divisions. However to avoid IP address conflicts I have to be sure that only dedicated for a division IP address/es is/are used by the division.

Router is 2821.
Switch is 2950.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 - How To Assign Multiple Public IP Addresses

Dec 2, 2010

I'm currently replacing my ASA 5505 with a 5510. I have a range of public IP addresses, one has been assigned to the outside interface by the setup wizard (e.g. 123.123.123.124 ) and another I would like to NAT to an internal server (e.g 192.168.0.3 > 123.123.123.125). On my asa 5505 this seemed fairly straigh forward, i.e. create an incoming access rule that allowed SMTP to 123.123.123.125 and then create a static nat to translate 192.168.0.3 to 123.123.123.125. Since I've tried to do the same on the 5510 traffic is not passing through so I'm assuming that the use of additional public IP addresses is not handled in the same way as the 5505? I also see that by default on the 5505, 2 VLANs are created, one for the inside and one for the outside, where as this is not the case on the 5510. Is the problem that VLANs or sub-interfaces need to be created first?  I'm doing the config via ASDM.

Everything else seems to OK i.e. access to ASDM via 123.123.123.124, outbound PAT and the site-to-site VPN.

Home Network With G And N Devices?

Aug 26, 2011

My home network currently consists of the following components...

BT Homehub 3 router - B/G/N
PC running Windows 7 and using a Edimax wireless pci adaptor - B/G/N
XBox 360 with live connection - N
Laptop with inbuilt wifi and no slots for another card except via USB - G
Various phones - G

Everything in the house is running at ~ 26-54 Mb/s at the moment and the two N devices have a very weak signal due to their distance from the router. Unfortunately, moving the router to somewhere that will benefit one device will have a detrimental effect on the other due to their locations. The router has the option to switch on 40mhz (mbit???) which, I gather, is also known as channel bonding and this should boost the range and speed of the N service but I also gather that doing this will stop all the G devices from connecting at all.I still have the Homehub 2 router that I was using before so I was wondering if there is any way I could make use of this (or anything else) to allow me to use all devices in the house at their fastest speeds.

Home Network :: Basic Networking Terms And Devices?

Mar 28, 2012

Modem - (MODulator/DEModulator) This converts your xDSL analog signals into a digital format for use on your home network. A modem can also be part of a Router/Modem combination device. This device typically sits at the very edge of your network at your ISP's demarcation point (the point from where their responsibility for equipment ends).

Router - A router serves to 'route' information from network to network. I.e. A router will route information between the network 192.168.1.0 and 172.16.1.0. Generally your home routers will come as a modem/router/wifi access point package. It will basically route packets of information that are generated on your LAN (Local Area Network) to the internet, and in turn, route packets from the Internet to your LAN devices.

Wifi access point - Obviously provides a wireless Ethernet signal so that you can connect wireless devices to your home network. Typically, the wireless access points you will see will come as a combination of router/modem/wifi point. You can buy extra wireless access points (not wifi routers) and place them strategically throughout your home to increase signal coverage.

Switch - Uses hardware addresses to 'switch' packets through the LAN. Normally a domestic router will have 3 or 4 switch ports built into it. However, switches do come as standalone devices and can be used to increase the breadth and scalability of your home network by using the extra ports they provide to patch in more devices.

Host - A host is basically your PC, iPad, smart phone, laptop that is situated on your home network.

NAS Drive - (Network Attached Storage) Contains storage space that can be used as network a share by connecting it your home network.

NIC - (networt interface card) this is the component that allows your PC/Laptop to be hard wired into your router or switch. It will have an RJ45 jack so that you may connect Category5 and onwards patch leads into it from your router or switch. This talks with your computer's main motherboard and operating system to give you network connectivity.

MBs vs Mbps - MB = Mega Bytes (this measures file size) and Mbps = Mega bits per second (this measure network throughput).

Wireless card/receiver - as above but wirelessly.
