Servers :: Access Web Server On Private Network
Jun 14, 2012
I have a VPN with a number of servers where we are doing some software development. We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet.It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. Any recommendations?fyi, I'm not a networking guy, I hacked my way through setting up the private network through a number of great YouTube videos, that saved me a lot of time.

I am living in an apartment complex with free wireless Internet and i turned this old pentium 4 computer into a web/media/file server. I want to be able to access my server away from home but i am extremely limited and i can not forward ports and I have no other kind of network privileges. I am a complete idiot when it comes to networking solutions and I am trying to learn. I have a very vague understanding of vpns and dynamic dns services but i do not understand what i need to access my server from a different network. I setup dns services for my home server but still have not been able to resolve hostnames to actual y point to my server or maybe my networks firewall is blocking me.

We are planning to split the Private servers from the DMZ Servers and configure an additional Interface and segment for this purpose.
Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.

I set-up my law firm network with a server 2008 database. Now I am renting out one of my offices to a separate lawyer and I want him to be able to use my network to access the internet, but not my server 2008. Is that possible or is it already secure being I haven't installed any of my software on his computer?

the site has a private wireless network for which I pay a yearly access fee. This gives me a code I can use to gain access each time I connect. We used to be able to have all our family's laptops, etc., connected at the same time using this code, but the site has recently changed the configuration so that we can't do this. Is there any way we can share the connection made by one computer so that we can all access the Internet at the same time? The site is in a remote location that gets poor mobile data coverage and landlines are not an option. The yearly fee is already high, so I can't afford to pay for multiple subscriptions.

What I'm trying to do is create a private network for local file sharing but also have internet access. There is a WRT54G router connected to a satellite modem in a separate building, just barely close enough to connect from my laptop, which is what sparked my original idea to use my WRT54GL as an access point.

we have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

We have configured a Cisco ASA 5505 with AnyConnect access. This works great. However, these users cannot seem to ping devices on the private network. We have configured all devices on the network with a 10.10.10.0/24 address space. The inside interface of the ASA i 10.10.10.1/24 and the VPN return addresses are 10.10.10.50 - 10.10.10.65/24.They users can utilize SSH and Oracle or MySQL calls but cannot seem to ping. Obviously, I am over looking something.

It's the only device I have that doesn't have internet access on my Private Network. The rest are working. I tried all the possible options to connect a device but still the problem exist.
By the way, I'm using E-1000 v2.1.02

I have a WRVS4400N that brocasts two different SSIDs. One is a public network and the second is a private network. Right now, both SSIDs are pulling from the same DHCP server, but I would like to seperate the public from the private. How can I seperate these SSIDs by vlans? I can't seem to get the vlans to route to sperate ports.
This is my vlan settings. I have two DHCP servers right now. One is in an isolated network plugged into Port 3 of the WRVS4400N. The other is on the production network, plugged into port 1 of the WRVS4400N. For some reason, whenever I connect to SSID Public, it won't pull an IP from the DHCP on port 1, it only pulls it from the one on port 2.I know there is three SSIDs here, the Static one is going to be the same network as the EMS one.

I am working with MS Windows 2008 R2 and a Belkin F5D8635-4v1 router.
I have already set up a dynamic IP address which points to my router at home. In my home network I have multiple PC's that I would like to access from the internet. I would like to achieve this without needing to change my port forwarding rules on my router each time...
My thoughts are that I use a single dynamic IP address pointed to my router. My router then forwards to a server with some sort of software that can then forward to the correct PC based on the host name.
So I have 3 domains set up all pointing to the router's IP address:
dest1.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest2.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
dest3.domain.com -> 41.xxx.xxx.45
The router is not smart enough to redirect by host name, so it will just forward everything to 10.0.0.20 The server based at 10.0.0.20 must then have software to now redetermine the target based on the host name. The rules would be set up as follows:
dest1.domain.com -> 10.0.0.22
dest2.domain.com -> 10.0.0.24
dest3.domain.com -> 10.0.0.26

I have purchased a domain name through a registrar. I currently have a hyper v lab set up at home with a domain controller/dns server and am thinking of starting a web server on either Apache or IIS on a different virtual machine. I want to point my domain name to my home web server.What do I do I have to do at my domain name registrar? I have to point a type of dns record to my home server's public IP and maybe vice versa.I have a static IP at home. Do I have to create some DNS records pointing from my domain name registrar to my server at home using my PUBLIC ip address? If possible please provide specifics on which records I should point to my home server PUBLIC ip address and if any DNS changes need to be made within my domain. Also if any records on my home domain (windows ad domain setup)
I seem to be able to find a lot of info on Apache and IIS but not a whole lot of info on how your web domain name registrar relates to your own web server . I'm not really interested on IIS or Apache specifics but more interested in the fundamentals of how a domain name registrar (GoDaddy, or any other registrar/host) needs to be pointed to your web server and vice versa. I know a lot of people on forums tend to point to links or tell me to go to google but I find it hard to learn that way.

I have Internet connection in Ethernet Medium connected to a L2 Switch (Cisco 2960). I have 2 Routers (Cisco 2900). I have a webserver to be accessed from Internet. The physical IP address of the server is Private range.
I have configured Stateful NAT as below
157.220.100.61 is Static NAT to 10.1.1.3 using redundancy
Though HSRP is working good, when RTR-1 is down, I am not able to reach Webserver (10.1.1.3) using RTR-2
We found in the that ISP Switch, that even when RTR-1 is down, the MAC address for 157.220.100.61 is still present one pointing to RTR-1 and other pointing to RTR-2. There are 2 MAC address entries for 157.220.100.61

I have a relatively simple question. I would like to create a private network within a larger network, the private network having several clients. I would ideally like the router to appear as the only device on the larger network and all data to be sorted by the router to the clients in the private network.
Will the Netgear FVS318G be able to do that? It seems to have the necessary NAT options.

I just had comcast business class installed. They installed a SMC d3g router. It does not support nat loopback. I had a server installed and could not browse to it inside the lan because of this issue. I was instructed that I needed to set the the servers IP to the external address and open the ports to that. That worked, and I added an internal address 10.1.10.x so that I could see it inside the firewall. The issue that I am having is that since I did this, the server can not be seen by the macs and the mac shares don;t show up for them.
