View 2 Replies View Relatedwe have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

View 11 Replies View RelatedThe situation is I have a windows 2008 server with two nics, connected to two routers. The routers are connected together as well. This diagram might explain further:[url]....
Each router effectively defines a completely different network. The server nic connected to the internet facing router is configured with minimal properties (no ip6, no file sharing, no netBIOS over tcp etc), the nic connected to the internal router has mostly default properties. Both nics have static ip addresses. Both networks define a subnet of 255.255.255.0. The nics are not bridged in the server and it is not acting as a router or anything network related.
The problem is I cannot access the server when both nics are enabled. If I disable the nic for the internet facing router, then everything is fine. If I establish a connection to the server such as through remote desktop, then re-enable the nic it still works but I can't ping or make new connections.
I have a static ip , So how co configure my server 2008 for the access from internet [URL]

We have a TFS, Web, App and SQL Server etc.. inside a private LAN which is accessible via VPN. Nothing inside the private network can access outbound. However, I would like to open the Web Server on the private LAN to be able to be accessed via http(s).As we develop the software I want to access the site from the internet. It's a fairly simple setup.DSL > Modem > Home Lan. On the Home Lan I have a Server (2 ethernets) connected to the modem router and the other card to a hub. This server acts as the VPN server, DHCP etc.. for the Private LAN.The web server I want to be able to access from outside is the one inside the private network. Any recommendations?fyi, I'm not a networking guy, I hacked my way through setting up the private network through a number of great YouTube videos, that saved me a lot of time.

I have my laptop and iPad on same local network, 192.168.1.xThey can see each other over network and I can access the page:192.168.1.105:80 (my laptops local web server) from both iPad and laptop. However the application server runs on port 8080 and I cannot access this from either device/machine. the router's firewall is playing a role, and I have no software firewall running on laptop that I'm aware of (turned off windows 7 firewall).localhost:8080/myWebSite or 127.0.0.1 also works on port 8080.The only combo that does not work is 192.168.1.105 with port 8080. I need this so the iPad can hit the site so I can test locally while developing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a network domain with 2 domain controllers running windows server 2008. At some point the DNS name for one of the servers got messed up and they stopped talking to each other even though they are on fixed IPs. The DNS problem has been fixed, but they haven't started communicating again. While the DNS was messed up the domain controllers kept running a different copy of the network. The DFS stopped replicating, the users lists fragmented and the network separated into two "shadow domains" with the same name. DC1 says it is healthy, but it claims DC2 is offline. DC2 claims it is healthy but DC1 is offline. I don't even know where to begin repairing this rift.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI've been reading that the Windows Server Backup that is included with Server 08 R2 is pretty good. Is spending $400 on a third party utility worth it?
I'm asking because we're purchasing a new server soon and I want to know if the included backup is going to be good enough. Will be backing up server state as well as data to tape and possibly an off site server (server 2003) if I get my way.
i'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.
