Allocating IP Addresses To Network?
Aug 20, 2012
I'm planning to setup a network with more than 300 PCs. I know that using class C address is not enough to allocate number of IP addresses required. What I meant in the preceding sentence is that If I use this network address 192.168.1.0 (class C), it will allow only 256-2 = 254 IP addresses, What about other PCs in the network ?

I have an apartment with a shared internet connection with a roommate. I'm paying for all internet costs because he says he "doesn't use it as much as I do". He frequently slows my connection down by downloading movies and probably porn. Time to bottleneck this douche.
I have an ASUS WL-520GU All four slots are hardwired: my computer, his computer, PS3 in the main room, printer.Plus several mobile devices are connected via wireless throughout the day.I only want to bottleneck his computer. How do I do it?

We are currently running a ACE20 with 11 contexts. Recently we have seen that one of the contexts is being 'starved' of resources, especially Concurrent Connections, Bandwidth and Throughput.
Whilst we know how to address this situation by reallocating resources from less busy contexts, I was wondering if there was a more scientific way of looking at the resources being used and calculating the best way to allocate them across the ACE other than just looking at the 'show resource usage' and 'show resource allocated' commands?
Has Cisco or any other 3rd party developed a handy tool to monitor the the ACE resources which will possibly assist with calculating the optimum resource allocations across all contexts?

I have two sites.Main site (local) has two Vlans: Vlan1 and Vlan2. Each has its own IP address range.VLAN 1 is the default Vlan and is used for CORPorate traffic. IP range 10.33.4.*VLAN 2 is for guest access to the internet IP range 10.10.10.*I have a WLC4402 on the this site with 2 WLANs: CORP on Vlan1 and GUEST on Vlan2.
Branch site (remote) which has 2 Vlans: Vlan1 and Vlan2. Each has its own IP address range.VLAN 1 is the default Vlan and is used for CORPorate traffic. IP range 10.125.15.*VLAN 2 is for guest access to the internet IP range 10.10.11.*I have an 1141 on this site using HREAP.
Locally, if you connect to CORP, you get a CORP ip address and access to CORP network. If you connect to GUEST, you get a guest ip address and guest access to the guest network. Simple so far....
Remotely, if you connect to CORP, you get a CORP ip address 10.125.15.x and access to CORP network (great). If you connect to GUEST, you get a CORP ip address 10.125.15.x and access to CORP network (not great). This is with the HREAP native vlan ID for the access point set to 2 on the controller. If I set the native vlan ID to 1 on the controller, I can not get an IP address at all.If I do not set the native vlan ID on the controller, I can not get an IP address at all.

My customer requires the hostport on an access switch to be allocated to a specific Vlan based upon the AD Group that the user is a memeber of ? I am planning to setup NAC in a Real Gateway OOB deployment, using an ACS 5.2. I was initially thinking that the initial authentication server would be the ACS and then the AD, which using group mappings within the AD, I could then assign the user to a specific ACS group and then pass a Radius attribute back to the NAC manager for processing?

In setup for old RV042 (V1), when updating / adding Mac addresses, the table is always sorted by IP addresses. But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict. If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.

i create a network topology ( i attached picture) and i don't know what exactly IP addresses should be assigned to routers and switches + there should be five VLAN's created and just one vlan (vlan 2) must see others vlans (for management purposes) and others vlans should not see each other. So i need that: 1) What IP addresses should be on routers and switches 2) How to create a 5 vlans, that they should not see each other, but one should see all, for example where i have to put "tagged" ports where "untagged" or "not member" ports etc.

I have a home network with a Netgear N600 as my main router. I have a wirelesss HP printer that accesses fine as does Iphones and Ipad. Then I have hard wires. Off of the main router I have 3 Netgear 5 port switches. 1 switch with a line to bedroom tv and a line to family room tv. 1 Switch at family room TV which goes to Blu Ray, Direct Tv, and Xbox360. 1 switch at bedroom for Blu Ray and Direct TV. Believe it or not, this all worked. I tried to hook up a ZmodoH264 security system (the ones with four cameras, and a separate hard drive and monitor for viewing). I used one of the 4 inputs on the main Netgear router for this, and it seemed to be recognized. But, I can't access the security system mobilly, AND all my network addresses seem to have been screwed as Directv isn't working (Whole Home) and the printer stopped being recognized. However, Blu Rays are still fine. Is there a way with ipconfig to list all of my hard wired nodes? I assume wireless dont show up in a list.

In my wireless table of who is connected to the wireless network there are 3 different mac addresses displaying when there is only two computers in the house(its not an outsider, it only shows when the other PC turns on), 2 of them have the same computer name but are connected at different IP addresses(192.168.1.101,192.168.1.102). Side Note:[The 2 PCs in the house were bought at the same time and the mac addresses are similar, but the third is different] Now that i have installed ubuntu i can really see what's going on with my ports, i notice that the mac address, that is not similar to my PC and the 'other pc', is poking around at my ports whenever the 'other PC' is turned on.

I have used all the spots on the form to filter mac addresses. Is there some way to add more? I have a lot of friends that come over from time to time. I also have plenty of my own wireless devices.I like using the mac address filter so not using it is not an option. Hopefully there is a way to add more, instead of being limited to a predetermined amount.

I can see what MAC addresses have a wireless session and I've used MAC Filtering to stop some MAC addresses from using the network at certain times, but they are still getting through to the internet. I don't know if they were to clone their MAC address as to whether this would show up with the cloned address in active sessions list. How I can stop some users from getting through at certain times? Any utility I can use on my Mac (Mac OS X 10.6. to show which computers/MAC addresses are on the network?

My boss would like to know if there is a way to find out the ip address of a person VPN ing into our network. Let's say Joe Smith is VPNed in from home and his carrier is cox communications. How would I go about finding out what his ip address (the ip issued to him by cox) is? Is that even possible? If it is possible, is there a way to create a list of ip addresses of everyone that has ever VPN ed into our network? We are using a Cisco ASA 5520 and Cisco VPN Client.

I have set up a private domain network at home. I have a domain controller, a DNS server, and a DHCP server all running on one Windows 2003 Server machine. I have about 10 other machines around the house, getting their IP addresses from this DHCP server.
I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router.
I am about to get 5 public IP addresses from my ISP, and I would like to make some of these machines publicly accessible (while still accessible from the other machines in the network).
I found this link that says on my web server (one of the public machines), that I should use a second NIC and set that up to connect to my router (and get a private IP address from my DHCP server).

I have a request to establish a site to site VPN with a customer. While collecting the information I give them our local network subnet which is a private subnet (192.168.5.0). They asked me if I could give them a public address instead. They can not work with the 192.168.5 subnet. Is this possible?
My side of the VPN is an ASA 5505 running 8.2(2). The other side i believe is a Checkpoint.

Our company is a small one and steadily growing towards mid size. We currently have about 200 or so users. Naturally we have run out of IP addresses and now we must redesign the entire IP schema.Initially our plan was to just implement a class B subnet for the whole network with certain ranges belonging to certain kinds of devices/machines/servers.Are there any cons to this? If so, could you link me to documentation that explains this?
