Our company is a small one and steadily growing towards mid size. We currently have about 200 or so users. Naturally we have run out of IP addresses and now we must redesign the entire IP schema.Initially our plan was to just implement a class B subnet for the whole network with certain ranges belonging to certain kinds of devices/machines/servers.Are there any cons to this? If so, could you link me to documentation that explains this?
I have a customer who has an ASA 5505 that is handling the routing for their internal network. They are running out of available IP addresses on their subnet 192.168.1.0/24. They have dumb switches that don't suppport multiple vlans or trunking & they are only able to connect to one switchport on the ASA. He doesn't not want to purchase any new equipment or rearrange their existing equipment at this time. The customer would like to statically assign IP addesses for 192.168.1.x & 192.168.2.x and have the ASA hand out DHCP addresses for 192.168.3.x addresses. The customer suggested configuring a super subnet. A 192.168.0.0/22 address scheme would provide an ip range 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.3.255 on a single VLAN. I know this is an unconventional way to setup an internal network & I will definitely advise the customer that this should only be considered as a temporary solution until they get more appropriate network equipment.
The 1130ag was the LAP model but I upgraded it to run in autonomous mode. My understanding is that it cannot assign IP addresses but I just want that confirmed. It is not connected to a WLC nor a server that can do DHCP.
In setup for old RV042 (V1), when updating / adding Mac addresses, the table is always sorted by IP addresses. But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict.If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.
I have 30 switched in my corporate network it’s all up and running all switches running by default configuration and connected to WS-C4506 core switch our dhcp server pooling 192.168.100.1/27 network. Now we need to configure new Vlan for finance department this department has more than 200 users. If my server distributes 192.168.200.0 range ip can vlan2 automatically assign ip 200.0 addresses to finance department.All switches running default config no ip address assigned.
I need to replace an existing ASA 5540 with a new ASA 5525X. I would like to pre-stage and configure the new box with the existing config, migrate license and export certificate files before swapping it with the old one during a change window. The new firewall will run 9.1 on deployment. Now the same 7.2(4) cannot just be copied over to 5525X running the minimum 8.6 version. There is a Web based tool available at [URL] according to Cisco documentation but the page does not load for me (Cisco intranet only tool ?). Is there another tool for automatic conversion ?
On my desk top home computer (XP Home Edition) connected directly to High speed Internet modem/router with a ethernet cable :The modem/computer connection worked for many months. Recenttly, I had to re-install my Network Driver because of a virus problem. The LAN icon now says :"Status: Acquiring Network Address" but it never gets to a connected status. IPconfig/all shows all 0.0.0.0 I have another laptop (Windows 7) using same network/modem thru wifi WLAN mini card and it connects fine to the Internet. IP values[CODE]

I have a DIR-615 rev C1 with the latest firmware (v3.13). I am trying to reserve all the IP addresses in my home network, which includes a printer, 3 computers, a network bridge to a PS3, the PS3 itself, an iPhone, and an A/V receiver. On my network setup page, I can see the MAC addresses under DHCP CLIENTS for the wired Win7 computer, a Win7 computer with a USB adapter, the PS3, the network bridge to the PS3, the iPhone.
Is it possible to have more public addresses to more internal addressees? I have an internet provider which is in control of my router and he is telling me it is not possible. It's a Cisco router and I have static IP address.
I'm planning to setup a network with more than 300 PCs. I know that using class C address is not enough to allocate number of IP addresses required. What I meant in the preceding sentence is that If I use this network address 192.168.1.0 (class C), it will allow only 256-2 = 254 IP addresses, What about other PCs in the network ?
We got a bunch of port-sec violations on port fa1/0/42. after checking logs, we noticed that the MAC address responsible for generating the alert was not one, but many.We asked the user, he said he only restarted his computer.The MAC addresses happen to be existing MAC on the network.How is it possible that a port-sec violation is made by many MAC addresses on the same port, successively?

When I try connecting via anyconnect the logs (and anyconnect messages) state the connection "cannot be established due to no addresses being available for SVC connection'". The group etc has a dhcp scope assigned, (and this was working for the past year). I'm not sure what config changes (if any) he made before leaving.
I have multiple devices running on my home network. Every once in a while my wireless router starts playing up and I have to reset it.Whenever this happens, it changes the internal IP addresses of the devices. how to switch between my 5 new static IP addresses that I purchased (on a monthly basis now) from my ISP. I need them for my business so that I can send out more than the 1,000 emails per day from the one IP address to all of my customers which total a little over 1,500 now. Unfortunately I'm quite computer iliterate when it comes to understanding even the basics of computer terminology, etc. My ISP explained to me that if I purchased the bundle of 5 static IPs, then I could in essence send out 5,000 emails per day, which is plenty.

I want to turn off DHCP and setup static IP addresses, but have some questions about applying the information to my specific system.I have a Cisco Wireless Router, 1-wired computer (windows 7) and 2-wireless computers (1-XP and the other is Windows 7). I also have a dual wireless print server, a Roku box, a Wii, a Kindle Fire, and Vonage which is connected between my cable modem and router (this was the preferred installation method by Vonage).I have ran IPCONFIG /All and have all the addresses. My concern is what to use as a static address for my router first off, and then how I go about picking IP addresses for the computers and devices, and how to set then up both at the router and at the computer or device. Also, do I need any IP address ranges for any of this? I'd also like to make sure it would be possible to setup this system with the Vonage adapter connected between the cable modem and router as it's setup now.
I noticed two ip addresses reserved with DCHP on my home wireless. From IP addresses I can't seem to figure out who these belong to at home. All connected computers and devices are accounted for. Could these possibly be someone(s) hacking to my wireless to connect to internet? Or are these for modem setup, etc.?
I have 2 PC's networked via a gigabit switch. They are both running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and are on the same workgroup.Addresses Of both - A: 192.168.0.1 , B: 192.168.0.2 , Both are on the same subnet 255.255.255.0.Can I have 2 LAN ports on the PC - "B" , with 2different IP addresses But connected to the same workgroup.I don't need the second port for accessing the PC-B or accessing any of its files or anything. I have been asked to do is locate some computers on the network and run a security scan on them. Well i pinged the host name and got an IP address. Then the network admin me look up the switch port that the computer is located on and so on. So i find 3 of the computers im looking for and when i get on the computer and look up the name but it does not match the name given to me. So i do an ipconfig /all and see that the computer has the right IP address and MAC address but not the same name. I have bridged several w/l Tranzeo's together. I have given each of them an IP address on the same subnet as my gateway and manage the units using that addressOther than for management is the IP address of a bridge used for anything else? I have noticed that I can plug in any gateway address I like and the units are perfectly happy even if the phoney gateway does not exist.

We've never had a problem setting up ASA to ASA or ASA to PIX vpn site to site tunnels using RFC-1918 addresses ( 10.x.x.x usually ). Now we have a customer ( a hospital ) that requires a public non-RFC1918 address to be presented to them. Since the addresses that we send are routable, they get routed through the internet instead of going through the tunnel. Here's the boiler plate from the customer:
"Important Note: The following information is to be used as a guideline in setting up a VPN connection between XXXX and your organization. Currently, XXXX supports only site-to-site VPN’s and all partners MUST present valid registered public IP addresses through the VPN tunnel.XXXX is unable to accept RFC-1918 addresses (i.e. 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, 192.168.0.0/16). We do not support PPTP, L2TP, or client VPN connections through a dialer application."
I was able to get a tunnel running between two ASA-5505 units using a public class C address that is currently not routable. How do I get this to work with a routable address? The tunnel will be carrying patient data and is basically a single server to single server link. It needs AES-256 and SHA-5 encryption but that shouldn't be a problem. The hospital is using a PIX, we are using an ASA-5510 with Security Plus license. We also have a couple of ASA-5505 units with base license to test with.
We sold an ESW 540 switch to a 3COM customer that is replacing old equipment. This replacement will be on different faces so we have to interconnect some 3COM switches to the Cisco equipment. We are installing rigth now and this two situations:
Virtual machines can´t get IP addresses via DHCP (using a different MAC address) when connected to the Cisco switch. Physical machines receive IP addresses from DHCP without problem. This situation never happened with 3COM switches.When we interconect the Cisco Switch to the 3COM switches (not using uplink ports) the connection never goes up. Remembering that 3COM switches are old we fixed the speed to 100 Mbps Full Duplex but it didn't work.
