Getting Network Topology IP Addresses And Vlan's?
May 28, 2012
i create a network topology ( i attached picture) and i don't know what exactly IP addresses should be assigned to routers and switches + there should be five VLAN's created and just one vlan (vlan 2) must see others vlans (for management purposes) and others vlans should not see each other. So i need that: 1) What IP addresses should be on routers and switches 2) How to create a 5 vlans, that they should not see each other, but one should see all, for example where i have to put "tagged" ports where "untagged" or "not member" ports etc.

Had an odd issue that started up last few days.. Have a port on a cisco 2912 XL that keeps dropping (drops all packets) on a certain VLAN, but still passes others. Spanning-tree for that vlan says all ports are in forwarding status. VTP says that VLAN is still active.
This network is a little strange... 2924XL -> MotoPTP -> 2912XL -> Moto Canopy Array -> Some sites with cisco, some without all feed through canopy controller switch to single port (fa0/8) on 2912.
Getting a few of these on terminal monitoring, %RTD-1-ADDR_FLAP: FastEthernet0/8 relearning 5 addrs per min... Sometimes this is fa0/8, fa0/10, or fa0/1.
I'm thinking the switch has just gone nuts, cause fa0/1 is direct connected to a router used for VLAN1. fa0/8 is connected to a dumb switch on a canopy CMM as a trunk which i enabled bpdufilter on because of some spanning tree issues on VLAN1. fa0/10 is connected to canopy PTP back to the 2924 as a trunk. VLAN69s router is off the 2924. So there aren't really any possible alternate packet paths to this switch from another switch.
I also setup SPAN and captured all packets from fa0/8 and fa0/10 (seperately) and never seen packet storms of any kind on either VLAN1 or VLAN69.Further testing with debug, nothing on spanning tree, nothing on vtp, but on ethernet-controller addr I got some interesting results showing one mac moving from fa0/1 to fa0/8 and back to fa0/1 but it never moves, its the routers mac that is connected directly to fa0/1. Same with some macs on the other side of the PTP link saying they are bouncing from fa0/10 to fa0/8 and back to fa0/10 which isn't possible

- Incoming frames on three of a blade's four switchports are being put into VLAN 1 even though the ports are either in other access VLANs, or are configured as trunks with different VLAN IDs being tagged by the server. - When the ports go down the access VLAN is removed from the port.
Switch stack: 4x WS-CBS3120X-S, 12.2(58)SE1
HP blade: HP BL460c Gen8
This combination has been used successfully elsewhere.
Switchport configuration:
!
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/13 -------> THIS PORT IS OK
switchport mode trunk

As we know when multiple PCs share same link"line" they will need multiple access protocol like CSMA/CD to protected from collision,,share link like "bus topology" need multiple access protocol "CSMA/CD" but in star topology"switch not hub" PC0 connect to port0 ,,PC1 connect to port1 PCn connect to portn then every PC connect to separate port ,, and the switch mange the network"by using MAC" then why we need to used CSMA/CD in star topology"switch"???

We currently support a third party VOIP software. Recently we have had issues with our T38 faxing to our SIP Trunk provider because our FW (sonicwall) doesn't support Nating the connection address within the SDP packet of the T.38 reinvite. This has caused us to look at alternate solutions. I have been in discussion with CISCO sales engineers and can't get a straight answer on which one of their products support this(RFC 3362, T.38 protocol used by our VOIP server)We were looking at replacing our sonicwall with an ASA but it seems it doesn't support RFC 3362 either . However, the sales engineer thinks that their regular routers will. So If I purchase a cisco router, i.e 8xx or 2621XM the question is where do I put it in my current topograpy. Currently we our at a Datacenter and our drop into our cabinet comes right into the Sonicwall and we have all NAT handled there, routing to different LAN ports on the Sonicwall. On LAN side all we have are standard switches supporting all of our Servers.
If I buy a Cisco router to handle my NAT issue for faxing.Do I put it on the WAN or LAN side of my FW?Do I setup the router to handle all of my NATing or just the NATing of my VOIP server that is having issues with the T.38? Would I need a Sonicwall FW if I purchased a CISCO 891?

I have a problem where clients cannot roam between Cisco 1231g-e-k9 and recently installed cisco 1242g-e-k9 access points.. On looking at the CDP option on the 1231 and 1242 access points they are all aware of each other. However if I use the Network View option I see a different picture. All the 1231 access points can see each other but not see the 1242's. Network View on the1242 shows all the 1231's but none of the 1242's. The 1231 are running ver. 12.3(8)JEB and the 1242's are running ver. 12.4(21a)JA1.

In setup for old RV042 (V1), when updating / adding Mac addresses, the table is always sorted by IP addresses. But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict. If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.

I'm planning to setup a network with more than 300 PCs. I know that using class C address is not enough to allocate number of IP addresses required. What I meant in the preceding sentence is that If I use this network address 192.168.1.0 (class C), it will allow only 256-2 = 254 IP addresses, What about other PCs in the network ?

I have a home network with a Netgear N600 as my main router. I have a wirelesss HP printer that accesses fine as does Iphones and Ipad. Then I have hard wires. Off of the main router I have 3 Netgear 5 port switches. 1 switch with a line to bedroom tv and a line to family room tv. 1 Switch at family room TV which goes to Blu Ray, Direct Tv, and Xbox360. 1 switch at bedroom for Blu Ray and Direct TV. Believe it or not, this all worked. I tried to hook up a ZmodoH264 security system (the ones with four cameras, and a separate hard drive and monitor for viewing). I used one of the 4 inputs on the main Netgear router for this, and it seemed to be recognized. But, I can't access the security system mobilly, AND all my network addresses seem to have been screwed as Directv isn't working (Whole Home) and the printer stopped being recognized. However, Blu Rays are still fine. Is there a way with ipconfig to list all of my hard wired nodes? I assume wireless dont show up in a list.

In my wireless table of who is connected to the wireless network there are 3 different mac addresses displaying when there is only two computers in the house(its not an outsider, it only shows when the other PC turns on), 2 of them have the same computer name but are connected at different IP addresses(192.168.1.101,192.168.1.102). Side Note:[The 2 PCs in the house were bought at the same time and the mac addresses are similar, but the third is different] Now that i have installed ubuntu i can really see what's going on with my ports, i notice that the mac address, that is not similar to my PC and the 'other pc', is poking around at my ports whenever the 'other PC' is turned on.

I have used all the spots on the form to filter mac addresses. Is there some way to add more? I have a lot of friends that come over from time to time. I also have plenty of my own wireless devices.I like using the mac address filter so not using it is not an option. Hopefully there is a way to add more, instead of being limited to a predetermined amount.

How would I go about finding out what his ip address (the ip issued to him by cox) is? Is that even possible? If it is possible, is there a way to create a list of ip addresses of everyone that has ever VPN ed into our network? We are using a Cisco ASA 5520 and Cisco VPN Client.

I have set up a private domain network at home. I have a domain controller, a DNS server, and a DHCP server all running on one Windows 2003 Server machine. I have about 10 other machines around the house, getting their IP addresses from this DHCP server.
I have a Netgear WNDR3700 router.
I am about to get 5 public IP addresses from my ISP, and I would like to make some of these machines publicly accessible (while still accessible from the other machines in the network).
I found this link that says on my web server (one of the public machines), that I should use a second NIC and set that up to connect to my router (and get a private IP address from my DHCP server).
