I found my dir-601 router keeps making arp query to all ip addresses in same network periodically.all dhcp clients are general laptops and smart phone, I don't think there are any arp cheats attack on those devices.is it normal?

I have to reset my wireless router multiple times per day. Seems to just be our two laptops that fail to connect periodically, not other devices (iPods/cell phones/Wii). Both laptops have Windows 7. Router was replaced 2 years ago (went from Belkin to D-Link DIR-655) and the D-Link started acting like this a few months ago and is getting worse. I updated firmware on router last week in hopes it would fix it.

I am running an i7 MSI gt683 with windows 7 with an Intel Centrino Wirelss-N 130. My home wifi connection runs off of comcast on a netgear router, and the wireless connection works on every single device in the house except for my laptop. I can run my ps3, my wii, we have an ipad, all our phones can connect and we have another laptop that connects with no issue. I have updated my drivers for my wireless card to the latest, flushed the ip on my desktop that the modem is connect to a dozen times. The only way to sometimes fix it is to manually log in to my router and release/renew the ip address from there. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. When it does work, it will work for about a week and then stop working for no reason at random times.The errors I keep getting are:Identifying network (which runs infinitely before cycling back to no internet connection)Connected with no internet access.

I also have plenty of my own wireless devices.I like using the mac address filter so not using it is not an option. I don't know if they were to clone their MAC address as to whether this would show up with the cloned address in active sessions list. How I can stop some users from getting through at certain times? I'm sure I'm missing some devices, but that should give you the general mix of wired/wireless devices that I use. I'm single with visits from my son every other weekend, so network traffic is not that high at my house. I've had this router for a couple years now and didn't use to have this problem. I've been updating the firmware, and I suspect this problem happened after on one those updates. I just don't know which one. Also, I didn't use to have any neighbors with Wireless Routers (that I could detect), but recently there have been 2 who have gotten them. I was hoping this was a problem that D-Link was aware of, but that does not seem to be the case. I would hate to have to go out and buy a new router (not D-Link).
Rev B, recently updated firmware to 2.10NA hoping to resolve the problem.WIFI is disabled.DHCP is disabled (I run a SBS 2008 server, but for testing i static ally assigned IP info on my test PC and disconnected all other systems including the server).Before updating the firmware, the router would hang for a couple minutes and then be OK for some random period, usually more than a few hours. After updating and resetting to factory defaults, I'm now lucky to get ten minutes of service before it hangs. The "globe" light goes out, blinks yellow and then within 20 seconds or so, goes out for good. At that point I can't even connect to the router's admin login page. I either have to power cycle the router OR the cable modem. I have confirmed it's the 655 by reconnecting my old (and I guess more trusty Linksys WRT54G. Same settings, same WAN MAC and WAN IP, no problems after many hours.
View 14 Replies View RelatedJust installed a DIR-615, not impressed so far I have 3 clients, a Windoze 7 laptop, a Kubuntu workstation (wireless N) and a wireless HP printer. When I enable DHCP reservations and reserve the addresses then save settings the router reboots and when I go back in all info is gone and nothing is reserved. I have been having weird disconnection issues - I lose my internet periodically for no apparent reason so I increased the lease time and am trying to reserve addresses.
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust a few days ago, my router started acting up. We have several laptops and phones all connected fine, then I will suddenly lose internet access. The windows 7 networking icon is showing me connected but no internet access, however, I can't even connect to the router ip address over wifi. If I use a wired ethernet connection, then everything still works. If I power cycle the router, then everything will work for an hour or two before it drops the wifi connection again. When the wifi goes down, all computers can see the network, but none can connect to it. From windows 7, it just times out.
What could be causing this problem, and steps can I take to troubleshoot this kind of problem?
Connection goes out from time to time. Especially when downloading and uploading. Ive posted here before and the problem fixed it self for a few days and now its back again. Drivers are up to date. Router firmware is up to date

We have 120 users, over 100 servers (physical and virtual) and three sites (main premise, data centre, dr site). The new network will connect all three. Our new WAN links are almost ordered. We will be making use of a managed MPLS IP VPN, with a 100M access rate at each site. I am currently focusing on the desing of the network at the main business premise. We have a significant investment in Cisco 2960 & 3750 switches and Fortinet firewall appliances. I plan to re-use these in the design.
Our current LAN is very flat and I want to segment the network. My plan is to create a number of VLANs, enable the Inter VLAN routing on the 3750 and then attach the 3750 to the Fortinet appliance which will provide stateful firewalling and traffic policin based on the VLAN (subnet) addresses. It is important that the traffic be routed as quickly as possible from this site to our prod and dr data centres.The 2960's act as the access layer, the 3750 as the distribution layer. The 2960's will connect via port channels (layer 2) to the 3750's and the VLAN interfaces will be configured on the 3750.
I was then planning on creating a VLAN on the 3750 to connect to the Fortigate appliance with a /29 address to limit the addresses used whilst also providing some flexibility for any future design changes.I want to implement a little security between the VLANs on the 3750 switches. I have a question about this coming up.I then plan to use the Fortigate appliance to do basic traffic policing based on source/destination addresses.
The WAN routers will connect to the Fortinet appliance on a Gigabit copper interface. The WAN routers will run HSRP between themselves and only one router will be active at any one time. The failover will be managed by the Fortigate and Cisco routers.I plan to define those addresses hosted at the other data centres and associate them with the interface associated with the WAN.I will then define the routing on the firewall for the two other data centres through summary routes for each of the sites. We will run static routing from the Cisco 3750 to the Fortigate and Fortigate to WAN router. We have no other networks/sites and won't have any others in the future.
I have a linksys system WRT54G at home. I had no problems with the Linksys router until about a month ago when I decided to make it a secure network. I run three computers of the wireless router (1 desktp and 2 laptops) Since making the wireless network secure I can not connect with my business laptop IBM Thinkpad X40, but thother e computers work just fine.

This seems to be triggered (a.) when I land on a web page with intensive graphics, etc., that takes a while to load, or (b.) if I launch a web page really quickly while another one already is up. it doesn't just happen spontaneously when I'm working on the computer. This computer I'm working on is old and slow, which is why as per my earlier inquiry about having to reconfigure the router and network , I'm looking at changing to an up to date and faster model. View 4 Replies View Relatedin my simple network setup, I cannot resolve DNS queries from inside my NATted network. On the router I can ping both IP-addresses and names. Ping from the local machine works for IP-Adresses but not for names. When doing nslookup, addresses are not found and a SERVFAIL message is returned. I use a Cisco ISR 861 Router to connect our local LAN to the Internet (The WAN of the 861 is connected to another DHCP/NAT-Router, which in turn connects to the ISP-Modem). Addresses in the local LAN are DHCP-distributed, the DNS-Servers from my ISP are configured on the Router and the DNS-Information is distributed correctly to my local LAN machines (as I can verify by doing nslookup on Linux).
View 21 Replies View RelatedI purchased an E4200 from a retail store about ten days ago.It completely quits periodically. Even the managment interface is gone. It seems to just die. The only fix is to unplug it, count to ten and plug it back in.router also gets extremely hot. I have tried locating it in several places, no matter where I put it, it still gets very hot. Right now I have it straddling a trash can so that it has about two feet of air space under it. It is still uncomfortable to the touch.
When I contacted technical support all they would do is walk me through setting it up from scratch again. I've done that many times, and I do not want to do it agian. Setting the router up agian will not make it cool down.
1. Exchange this for another one, probably from the same batch, at the store?
2. Fight with Linksys tech support to get a waranty return? (Any input on how to get them to do this?)
3. Return this router altogether (paying the retailer's 15% restocking fee) and look for another brand?
I'm running XP and have Bell-Aliant modem SIEMENS Gigaset SE567 running to DI-624 router. It has been working for years but after the internet was down in the area for most of the day, it has failed to reset. I've done the usual un-plug/wait/replug routine a few times but cannot connect. I can connect directly through the SIEMENS but when I introduce the DI-624 back into the mix, I'm not able to connect to the internet. How do I make it happen. I'm not tech savvy so go slow.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOk, so what I want to do is make a router/firewall/proxy (maybe add webserver/FTP as well). Just to start off I want to say that I have moderate knowledge of Linux, enough to administer it from the CL. I have setup routers before but it was years ago and I've forgotten some of the details involved. What I do is a base LAMP install, with DNS, Samba, DHCP server, OpenSSH and then Webmin for easier administration. I've also installed EHCP (easy hosting control panel) in the past but have not at this point.
So, what I want to know is how do I setup the NIC's in the etc/network/interfaces file. Let's say that eth0 connects to the modem and eth1 & 2 are internal adapters. Currently my network is running a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT and the router is set to DHCP for the WAN connection and DHCP is running on the internal network as well. The modem is at 192.168.254.254 and is giving the router an address of 192.168.254.1 my internal network is 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.0/24). I would like to setup my internal router address to 192.168.1.1 so I guess I need to set it to static in my interfaces config and then set my eth0 to dhcp. Does this sound correct?
So if I do the above my only question is how do I setup the routing tables after that? I always get messed up when I need to make the switch from my Linksys router to my Linux box. I'm not worried about firewall rules at first I can change those once I have the router up and running. I just don't know if I need to make some kind of bridge to bridge the eth0 and eth1 (external NIC and internal NIC).
I have a new 601 vers. A1 F?W 1.01NA.I tried the link from FuzzyNuts and read the disclaimer. However, page 10 of the 601 manual actually shows a similar "how to".My lan allocates addresses automatically between 100 and 200. Through cat5e I connected an XPPro sp3 comp lan port to the #1 lan port on the 601. I can log into the 601 router and disable UPnP and Save. But each time I try to do step#3, uncheck DHCP Server and Save, it says "successful",counts down to 0 but when I click on "Continue" it won't. When I try to get back into the 601 router again I get a "no or low connectivity " message.I have tried re-setting the router many times and then I can get back to the same step and it fails to continue each time at the same point.
All I am looking to do here is get a better AP signal in one corner of the house where fridge and cupboards block good reception from the DIR-655 and I have an Ethernet connection available at that location to connect the 601 if I can fix this.
In setup for old RV042 (V1), when updating / adding Mac addresses, the table is always sorted by IP addresses. But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict.If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI purchased a wireless bridge D-Link DAP-1522 (IP fix 192.168.0.50) to share the Internet connection to two remote devices: WD TV Live HD (IP fix 192.168.0.52) and a Samsung BD P2500 player (IP fix 192.168.0.51: to try the BD-Live) but when I plug it into my network I have an IP conflict and I can not navigate anywhere, even by the computer which control the Netgear router (IP 192.168.0.1 DHCP range 192.168.0.2-192.168.0.49).
I tried with all fixed IP (192.168.0.xxx Subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 DNS 192.168.0.1), but nothing to do, I have the same problem: after a few minutes after plugged the network cable into BD player the network falls.With wired connection (10 m of patch cable!!!) Samsung BD P2500 have no problem (DHCP and IP fix).
Then look closely in the information relating to devices connected to the Netgear router I noticed that all devices connected through the bridge DAP-1522 have the different IP but same MAC address and I think this could be the cause of the problem that creates the Blu Ray when it's connected to the network through the bridge, because he is not identified with any name but only as UNKNOWN as the bridge (a problem that WD Live not seen: same MAC address but is identified by name as WDTVLIVE).
How can I make the MAC addresses from the bridge will be recognized separately from my router/modem Netgear?In the settings of the bridge I noticed that you can enable or disable MAC address cloning, but if the off I would expect that cloning was not done and instead all the devices are identified by the Netgear router with the MAC address of the access bridge.The DAP-1522 masked the MAC address of device that are plugged into bridge.The router has the latest available firm while the original bridge has version 1.20 (the penultimate version available).
