Linxys Wireless-N Broadband Router - Model # WRT160NVZ Stop Working?
Feb 24, 2011After an hour on the phone with the Linxys support people I'm feeling like I've been scammed.I have a 2 year old, almost to the day, Linxys Wireless-N Broadband Router, model # WRT160NVZ, which decided to stop working today. I contacted Linxys support and was told since it is 2 years old it's no longer under warranty, ok. If I choose I can pay for a service call and the tech may be able to fix the router, no guarantee. I had another option to purchase a service plan but again no guarantee repairing the router. My third option was to purchase a brand new wireless router for a discounted price, if I chose this option the tech would attempt to repair the router at no charge. I expressed my concern that it would take a few days to receive the new router and what would I do while waiting. I was then assured the router I have now could be repaired and would be able to hold me over until I received the new router.So I chose the 3rd option purchasing a M20 wireless router to be shipped to me within 3 days. After providing my credit card number and billing/shipping address the technician was now able to work with me in trying to repair the current router. He had me access the Linxys website, he instructed me in resetting the router and resetting the settings for it on the website and PRESTO, my 2 year old router now works again.but feel that this is a scam, programmed in the router to occur within 2 years of purchasing where the settings entered no longer work but once changed works perfectly well.

I am on the LAN attached to fa0/0 on R1 and I need layer 2 connectivity to a device on fa0/0 on R2. I'm not sure if this is possible with 1841's or not? I made a GRE tunnel between the two and was going to add a BVI and bridge the tunnel at each end with fa0/0 at eah end, but the 1841's don't support BVIs so I'm a bit stumped here! Would L2TP work here?
R2 is a remote router running C1841-SPSERVICESK9-M. R1 is local running C1841-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M. I can't change the remote router so if the answer is not support in C1841-SPSERVICESK9-M I won't be able to do this.

It appears that there is a mix up with these two devices. I have cross checked the IP addresses and MAC addresses displayed in Cisco Connect Cloud with those displayed on the devices and they match - so it's not a case of mixed up names. Example, I have a Nintendo USB Wireless Adapter. All I do is stick it into my computer's USB port and it becomes a hotspot that I use to connect to my Nintendo DS to the internet wirelessly. Apr 7, 2012Ok, so what I want to do is make a router/firewall/proxy (maybe add webserver/FTP as well). Just to start off I want to say that I have moderate knowledge of Linux, enough to administer it from the CL. I have setup routers before but it was years ago and I've forgotten some of the details involved. What I do is a base LAMP install, with DNS, Samba, DHCP server, OpenSSH and then Webmin for easier administration. I've also installed EHCP (easy hosting control panel) in the past but have not at this point.
So, what I want to know is how do I setup the NIC's in the etc/network/interfaces file. Let's say that eth0 connects to the modem and eth1 & 2 are internal adapters. Currently my network is running a Linksys WRT54GL with DD-WRT and the router is set to DHCP for the WAN connection and DHCP is running on the internal network as well. The modem is at 192.168.254.254 and is giving the router an address of 192.168.254.1 my internal network is 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.0/24). I would like to setup my internal router address to 192.168.1.1 so I guess I need to set it to static in my interfaces config and then set my eth0 to dhcp. Does this sound correct?
So if I do the above my only question is how do I setup the routing tables after that? I always get messed up when I need to make the switch from my Linksys router to my Linux box. I'm not worried about firewall rules at first I can change those once I have the router up and running. I just don't know if I need to make some kind of bridge to bridge the eth0 and eth1 (external NIC and internal NIC).
Broadband :: Century Link DSL Wireless Connection Much Slower Than Wired?
Sep 7, 2012I have internet thru Century Link (DSL). I also have a Netgear N-300 wireless router. My computer is 4 years old and is an HP with a G wireless adapter buit-in. Until yesterday, my provided internet speed was up to 7mbps. I received the same speed regardless of whether my computer was plugged in directly to the modem (1), plugged directly into the router (2), or wirelessly. We just upgraded our internet to 40mbps. Now, I get the 40 mbps when my computer is plugged into the modem or router, but wirelessly I only get about 4 mbps, 1/10th of what I get with wired.
