Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Not Connecting To Laptop While Making Network Secure Laptop
Sep 5, 2008I have a linksys system WRT54G at home. I had no problems with the Linksys router until about a month ago when I decided to make it a secure network. I run three computers of the wireless router (1 desktp and 2 laptops) Since making the wireless network secure I can not connect with my business laptop IBM Thinkpad X40, but thother e computers work just fine.

Jan 18, 2012At the moment i have 3 routers across the house, each acting as a wifi access point.My problem comes to when i use my phone or laptop, it connect to a random access point doesn't matter of the signal.Is it possible to combine 3 routers as one access point. So that i would connect to one access instead of 1of 3 access points, that would be a strong wifi signal no matter when i am in the house. Something similar to what bit malls or stores have.I have looked at wi-fi repeaters, but they just repeat the wifi and make new access point.

Nov 20, 2012When I moved in to my roommate's house, her computer was already set up with an unsecured wireless network listed as Open and Disabled requiring no password. All of a sudden, it now has a lock next to the name in the list of wireless networks and asks me for a password when I try to connect. My roommate knows NOTHING about computers and has no idea how it happened. She has an Arris modem, Windows 7. I tried typing in the common IP address for Arris and I did get to a screen giving a lot of info about the system. But there was no where to log in or change any passwords.

Nov 13, 2011Purchased E4200 this week and did simple setup via CD setup (Cisco connect). Set up main name and password. Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account. Gave guest account its own password. Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password. (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E4200 and restarted things from the CD setup. Created main account, main account password, and guest password again. In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal. Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).

Feb 2, 2013I'm trying map the USB hard drive connected to my EA4500 router as a network drive in Windows 7, and it works perfectly until I enable secure folder access on the router.
After enabling secure folder access, and not changing any other settings on the router I first unmount the drive since it was set up without credentials and doesn't work that way any more. When I try to remap the drive I use the same address, but select "Connect using different credentials" When it prompts me for the log in info I try using the router admin account, but it fails to connect. Windows network diagnostics tells me the device refused the connection. I proceeded to set up an account on the router under the folder access settings with the same username, and password I use on my computer, and tried to connect it without checking "Connect using different credentials" (And typing them in manually if that matters) with the same results.
Even with secure folder access enabled I can still reach the drive just fine by typing "ftp://192.168.1.1/" into file explorer. It prompts me for a username and password, I put in the admin credentials, and I'm in. Even the account I created with the same username/password as my computer works this way.
After disabling secure folder access everything works perfectly fine again... I would MUCH rather do this with it though.
Following these directions: [URL] When clicking the browse button the router shows up when secure folder access is disabled, but does not after it is enabled. I've looked through my windows sharing settings, and haven't noticed anything that should cause problems, pretty much everything is enabled. I've also tried turning off my firewall with no success.

Dec 19, 2011I have a computer hooked up to the internet with a cable modem via usb cable. The ethernet part of the modem is hooked up to my xbox 360.
I don't have a wireless router or a wireless internet connection but I do have a Belkin USB Wireless Adapter and I read on the web that you can turn your computer into a wireless hotspot if your computer has a wireless card with antennae or a usb wireless adapter.
Example, I have a Nintendo USB Wireless Adapter. All I do is stick it into my computer's USB port and it becomes a hotspot that I use to connect to my Nintendo DS to the internet wirelessly. So I basically thought that my Belkin adapter would be able to do the same thing only with whatever other devices I try, not my DS.

May 25, 2012I work for a small company where we have a simple network that runs from one router and I believe has a switch. We all have access to the network wirelessly or with cable.The internet was running ok up until yesterday when I came in to do some online banking and thought the site was down. However, turned out it was just me that was having trouble. I coudn't access secure sites like online banking or facebook for example. Now I was using the cable at the time and this wasn't working. When I tried wirelessly it would work... this confused me but not as much as when I found out that others in the office could use the cable and even more, there are 2 others who cannot connect to secure sites with cable or wireless.I was wondering what could have changed over night as this is what seemed to happen. Is it our ISP? (prob not as others are ok) so I'm thinking there must be some kind of setup issue in our configuration. Jun 11, 2011I am wanting to make my desktop wireless I have a D LINK dual band wireless router now. My laptop is wireless and works fine my desk top is hardwired to router. Thinking of moving my moden and router to TV and making my desktop wireless and hardwireing my media server I think it called ( still yet to be bought still doing home work on which one to get and how to hook up ) Thinking less signal loss be hardwired to media server. I now have AT&T DSL 1.5 MB upgrading to 6.0 MB to stream netflicks . Do you think 6 MB will steam OK? Should I Go with just a USB adapter or go to PCI internal Adapter? In reading some of the other post seems hit or miss on adapter seeing and working with routher. Is there a brand or type of adapte I should look at? as I said Desktop will now be wireless media hardwire dose this sound like the way to go about doing this? Any media server that seems to work better than others . not doing x box or Wii not a gamer just want to stream Netflix without buffering and as good a picture as Poss.

Also I noticed that it awakes the wireless printer from sleep mode. Could it the wireless adapter be interfering with the wireless printer? Security say that all traffic on this SSID should be isolated and directed straight to the firewall, with no chance of contamination into the company network infrastructure.
With the 5508, my understanding is using the setting up a guest account functionality built in will achieve this, but all traffic would end up at the wireless controller. How do I then put a direct forward for all traffic to the firewall which will only affect the guest traffic?

Apr 6, 2011I have an Orange Livebox connected wirelessly to my laptop. Everything's been working fine until the last few weeks. Whenever I receive or make a call using my iDECT s2i cordless telephone the internet drops and it takes ages to reconnect. I've checked all the connections and every phone socket has an ADSL filter. I understand that some wireless devices can affect a router and that these are usually 2.4ghz devices but I have no idea if my cordless telephones are 2.4ghz or 5.8ghz or indeed if this is the source of the problem at all.

Feb 22, 2012i want to make my minecraft and gmod servers permanent so i got stupid and built a low powered server out of an old athlon media pc i had laying around. anyways my current setup i have going is my main router is in the basement and i have a dd-wrt d-link repeater in my room. ok so i gave the repeater a static ip of 192.168.1.56, and gave my server a static ip of 192.168.69.25 (i made the ip of the repeater 192.168.69.1) i forwarded all the necessary ports to the static ip of the repeater then to the static ip of the server. but my servers wont work. on minecraft it says "end of stream" but if i look at the active server log on the server it says "myipaddress has lost connection" and on gmod i just cant connect or see my server at all.
