Jun 17, 2012Trying to setup split tunneling over Site-to-Site (Gateway To Gateway) VPN between RV082 and Win 2008 server. Tunnel seems to be ok, I can ping/access by IP hosts from both ends. But I can't get split DNS to work. Here is the setup
10.10.100.2 is the DNS server for xyz.local zone. It is at remote network.
The tunnel and routing work properly. I can ping 10.10.100.2 either from RV082 (system management - diagnostics) or from hosts at local network.
Moreover, I can run nslookup on a host from RV082 side (local network), set 10.10.100.2 as server to be queried and test dns resolution. names of hosts from xyz.local are resolved correctly. But. If I use nslookup on host to query RV082 as a DNS server and query for a host from xyz.local it responds that xyz.local is nonexistent domain. The same result I get trying to resolve/ping same name on system management - diagnostics page. Resolution of names from xyz.local fails. But Internet names are resolved
just fine.
I've tried to reboot the router, connect/disconnect the tunnel, set Domain Name fields of split DNS configuration pagein different ways including fqdn of hosts from xyz.local No effect. Just the same situation.

Dec 26, 2011I'm having trouble trying to connect 3 computers via LAN for gaming using straight Ethernet cables and a net gear router. Only 2 computers seem to connect at a time. All 3 can connect to one another (one at a time) and the I.P. addresses have been set to 192.168.0.1 , 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3. The cables work fine and the computers, but I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong kind of hub/router?

May 21, 2012My new employer has asked me to determine any issues that could be causing performance issues our LAN. The network has two subnets and one of the first things that I noticed is that I cannot ping computers on subnet A from subnet B. I've looked into this and found a few things.-I CANNOT traceroute to computers on subnet B from subnet A-I CAN NMAP to computers on subnet B from subnet A-Computers on subnet A CAN ping other computers on subnet A and computers on subnet B CAN ping other computers on subnet B-Computers on subnet A CAN ping and access servers on subnet BI am relatively new to networking and not exactly sure where to start investigating this problem.

Jun 12, 2011I recently got a new Toshiba laptop, which works perfectly. We already have an HP desktop PC as well as a Dell laptop, which are both connected to an Ethernet router. When I got my Toshiba, I couldn't connect to the router, whether from a new Internet cable, the cable the Dell uses, or the cable the HP uses (it works perfectly fine with Wifi). The next day I got up early and tried again, and it worked. The HP was turned on, and it connected. But then the Dell wouldn't. Over the next couple days, we realized the problem was that the router only allowed the first two computers that were connected to it to connect to the Internet, but not the third one. The router itself allows eight cables to be plugged into it at a time, so I don't see why it's only allowing two computers, whether laptop or desktop, to connect. Is there a possible solution to this?It's an 8-Port Workgroup Switch, Model EZXS88W.Also, our router DOES NOT support Wifi

Jun 19, 2012I got an internet from provider (which is LAN cable sticking from the wall) - and it works fine when I connect via LAN cable - when I write the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and DNS servers on the LAN adapter and create a PPPoE connection with username and password. I want to do the same but wirelessly. I have an ASUS RT-N10 LX wi-fi router - and connected the cable from the provider to the WAN slot on the router. Then I have accessed the router from my laptop [URL] - and configured everything as it was on my laptop.
IP Adddress: 192.168.17.191
Submask: 255.255.252.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.16.1
DNS1: 192.168.1.250
DNS1: 192.168.1.10
Wireless network works fine, the default gateway is pinging - but DNS servers are not accessible. As a result no internet connection available ( Moreover - when I want to ping the DNS (ping 192.168.1.250) - I tries to get a response from other location 192.168.1.3

Jul 22, 2012Still trying to get this XP pro SP3 to connect to or log into the server, a Windows 2008 jobber. I get the pop up that says unable to access the server, may be a permissions issue. I am administrator on both though and it should not be an issue plus I can ping each machine from the other. The XP machine does not show up in the network on the server though. The server shows up on the XP but then will not allow me to log into it. I changed all user names and pass codes on all the machines to be the same and it cleared up a number of issues except this one. The network name on the server is Network 2 and on another machine the network is named Network 3. Don't know what this means. This XP machine used to connect to the server without issues. My server guy moved away and well, I am just not that savy on 2008 Server. All the other machines are Windows 7. Oh yes, this is a work group with DHCP from a VPN and a Comcast (bless their souls) gateway.

Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram?
Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)
We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.
