Routers / Switches :: Ethernet Router Only Allowing Two Computers?
Jun 12, 2011
I recently got a new Toshiba laptop, which works perfectly. We already have an HP desktop PC as well as a Dell laptop, which are both connected to an Ethernet router. When I got my Toshiba, I couldn't connect to the router, whether from a new Internet cable, the cable the Dell uses, or the cable the HP uses (it works perfectly fine with Wifi). The next day I got up early and tried again, and it worked. The HP was turned on, and it connected. But then the Dell wouldn't. Over the next couple days, we realized the problem was that the router only allowed the first two computers that were connected to it to connect to the Internet, but not the third one. The router itself allows eight cables to be plugged into it at a time, so I don't see why it's only allowing two computers, whether laptop or desktop, to connect. Is there a possible solution to this? It's an 8-Port Workgroup Switch, Model EZXS88W.Also, our router DOES NOT support Wifi
I have a Cisco 1841 router with the followingSerial T1 connection Fastethernet 1 with network address 192.168.0.1 Fastethernet 2 with network address 198.168.0.1I want to isolate Fastethernet 2 so that it cannot access the internet or the 192.168.0.1 network. Only incoming request is available.
I'm having trouble trying to connect 3 computers via LAN for gaming using straight Ethernet cables and a net gear router. Only 2 computers seem to connect at a time. All 3 can connect to one another (one at a time) and the I.P. addresses have been set to 192.168.0.1 , 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.3. The cables work fine and the computers, but I'm wondering if I'm using the wrong kind of hub/router?
I'm a college student working on a lab involving a Cisco PIX 501 Firewall.
My project involves 1 computer and a firewall. My goal is to use the firewall to allow access to the internet for that computer which uses a static IP 192.168.1.5 and ONLY for that IP address. The firewall is connected to the internet.
I have the computer hooked up to the firewall with the serial and using hyper terminal to enter commands. I think I need to use access lists in order to deny traffic on those ports for those particular hosts. I can't figure out exactly how I need to set it up.
What I need to do is permit internet access for 192.168.1.5 alone. Any other IP should not be able to access the internet.
I tried:
access-list 1 permit tcp host 192.168.1.5 any eq 80 access-group 1 in interface inside
I cannot access the internet using the computer with 192.168.1.5. The goal is to be able to access with that IP and no other.
I am having 2 Pc's and 1 ISP. I am havng a DSl modem cum router. Is it possible to connect two computers with 2 different ip addresses from same ISP? My ip address is a static one btw..
My new employer has asked me to determine any issues that could be causing performance issues our LAN. The network has two subnets and one of the first things that I noticed is that I cannot ping computers on subnet A from subnet B. I've looked into this and found a few things.-I CANNOT traceroute to computers on subnet B from subnet A-I CAN NMAP to computers on subnet B from subnet A-Computers on subnet A CAN ping other computers on subnet A and computers on subnet B CAN ping other computers on subnet B-Computers on subnet A CAN ping and access servers on subnet BI am relatively new to networking and not exactly sure where to start investigating this problem.
4 pcs are connected to a adsl bb router having 4 lan ports. i have removed the adsl cable going to the bb router cos bb giving problems. i m then connecting to internet on any one pc using a tata photon usb device. i want to share this internet on other 3 pcs. those 3 pcs are getting their ips from the bb router in 192.168.1.x series. all pcs are pinging to gateway ie 192.168.1.1 but not pinging each other. why?
Is there a difference in an ethernet cable and an Ethernet networking cable? I have an Ethernet cable and a 6 port splitter I am trying to connect. I have 4 ports in the router that are in use. When I connect them to the splitter nothing s working.
I have 4 desktops cat5 to Dlink DIR 615 router. All work fine. Any wireless clients, laptop or netbooks, see the desktop computers for a while then disconnect somehow. All machines can see the Internet through the router at all times. The desktops disappear from the laptop/netbooks but the wireless machines can be seen from the desktop computers but clicking on them gets 'Access Denied' message after a wait.3 desktops = XP, 1 98SE. All laptop/netbooks = XP
We have a network in place. A week ago we switch to AT&T's UVerse and they replaced the Motorola modem with a Motorola NVG510 modem/router. There was a Netgear router behind the original Motorola but since we only needed 4 ports I pulled that out of the loop and used the Motorola. The three computers connected directly to the Motorola came right up. However, there was a switch with two computers connected to it and when the switch was connected niether of the computers connected to the switch would go to the internet. I took one of those off the switch and connected directly to the Motorola and immediately connected to the internet. Put it back through the switch and nothing.
What i am trying to do is that i have a server in my store which has a running software for the store. I have a TP Link Wifi card installed in my pc.. i need to access the server using an ip through the ethernet cable. And i access the internet via the wifi device installed and running in my pc. the problem now here is that i cannot access both of the simultaneously. If i connect back the ethernet cable the browser does not browse or the internet does not work.. and i can access my server software.. as i unplug the ethernet cable my wifi card installed starts working all good and i can use the internet.. i have tried a little of soultions but have not been successfull enough to use both the connections simultaneously..
How do I use an Actiontec 1000 modem (with wireless) and a TP-Link 4 port cable/DSL router and still have a wireless signal? When I connect the ethernet from the modem to the router, the router lights come on but the wireless signal goes down. Want 2 PC's wired (only one port on modem) and still want wirelss signal.
i have one machine have 2 Ethernet devices and i need to connect this server to different 2 network with 2 different gateways (192.168.2.x "vpn network" and 192.168.1.x "adsl network" )so if any other one need to connect this ftp server can connected from vpn or adsl
A 500 ft Ethernet run with a mid-point POE extender, what should I use on both ends for best results? Looking for a possible switch at the termination end. I'm using enhanced Cat5E cable.CGMAN
I've got a Cisco DPC3825 modem that I also use as a wifi router. Conntected to it I have 4 eithernet cables:
1. From PC to Router
2. From another PC to router
3. From TV to router
4. From a Dlink Powerline Adapter to Router. It took me a while to figure this out but when I unplug all the eithernet cables and plug back in #1 and #2 (from above) the internet works. When I plug back in #3 and #4, the internet dies. Meaning, I am connected to the network but not the internet. I've reset the modem, changed SSID and restarted the PC many times but still can't figure out this issue.
I use a Netgear FS605 Ethernet Switch to connect a wifi modem to my network and thus to the internet. People in that room can jump online via the wifi modem. You can also print to the wireless printer in that room via that wifi modem being local. However, I can no longer print to the wifi printer from anywhere else in my network (I could before I got a new router and wifi modem in there).Would this be a problem with this Switch or with the modem e.g.
i have modem with an rj 45 hub. i now have a switch with four hubs when i connect for my two computers , only one of the computers could connect to the internet
I have a WRV210 router that is not allowing me to delete a VPN client that I had perviously set up. When I go to remove this client on the VPNVPN Client ACCESS table the s/w re-directs me to the Status VPN client table. There I cannot flag/check the disconnect box. I have version 2.0.1.5 s/w which is the latest.
I'm trying to connect a second desktop to my internet connection. My current setup has my primary desktop using a wireless card and getting internet from the wireless router. Then I bridged the connection from my desktop to my xbox. Everything worked perfectly.
However, I recently got a second desktop(running lubuntu if it matters) and I'm trying to get it connected so that I can use Synergy and share a mouse with it. I found an old router laying around the house and was hoping I could use it to share the bridged connection to my xbox with the second desktop. Like this:
I couldn't get that to work though. The second desktop knew it was connected, but it couldn't connect to the internet. It would also throw off my primary desktop and it would try to connect to the old router.
I also tried to set it up like this:
Using an ethernet plug in the wall that normally just went to the TV and trying to split it there. The TV still worked, but the second desktop didn't.
How I can get this all working. I'd like to do it without having to order a wireless card/usb and just use what I have.
Belkin N450 Router. I want to restrict Internet access completely but allow LAN access to a shared drive for a particular computer on my wireless network. I have gone into the web based set up page and under access controls have enabled and added this computer to the list. I have blocked http, https, ftp and nntp. I don't know if this is enough. The reason I am asking is that I am in Iraq right now and I want to allow my fellow team members access to the wireless for using viber on their iphones but one cat even though he has hardwired internet wants to continuously suck off my wireless for his computer to download stuff since I paid for faster internet. I am trying to do this quietly and still allow him access to the shared drives on the LAN. Sooooo If I block him just outright will he still have access to the drives or do I need to pick and choose like I did above and if I need to pick and choose did I miss anything other then pop3 email and imap?
I have a 80ft cat5 ethernet cable I got cut at compusa about 3years ago to go across the house to my room. I used to have an a really old computer but about 6months ago I bought a brand new top of the line computer and got really excited and set it up on my desk in my room to discover my ethernet cable wasnt being detected on my computer. The weird part is that it works with other computers.. I had my gf's laptop(3yo) using it, my dads(3yo), my older computer that I dont use anymore but whenever I connect mines it doesnt work.I test hooking up a few different cables to my computer and they work but that one specificly wont.
Installed new N600 router and every box in the house can access the internet - except for my Vista powered laptop. My network shows up as Unidentified network with 'locla only' access. Ben scouring message boards all day. Can't find a solution at Microsoft.
I want to setup an home network with a wireless router and use multiple switches for wired connections through out my home. I currently have an Airport extreme hooked up to a cable modem and a leviton gateway hooked up to the Airport. The 2 computers connected to the Leviton are on a windows 7 homegroup and share fine, but won't share or discover any wireless device connected to Airport. My main goal is to have a wireless/wired network with all computers sharing information with each other. I want 2-3 wired switches/gateways with a min of 2 devices connected to each, connected to my wireless router whiich is connected to cable modem.
I have a DI-604 Version E3 D Link router and I'm trying to allow VPN through the router but I'm not exactly sure how. I have the VPN set up through my PC's but I need to configure the router aswell. Trying to set up the VPN so multiple locations can access it,
When I set a static IP on my device, it works for a short time, then it won't connect again unless I do DHCP. It's like the router chooses an IP for the device, and only allows it to use that one.
The same thing happened a while ago with my desktop, I wanted to set a static IP so I could access it from another building, and the router, being the piece of crap it is, reset all the IPs, and wouldn't allow the computer to connect.D-Link WBR-1310, Hardware B1, Firmware 2.02
I just bought the 655, mainly for school/Xbox. My parents use it also, but I bought it for myself mainly (shh). I set it up correctly and got connected, but suddenly I wasn't allowed Internet access. The router connects to my laptop, but won't get Internet access. I called customer service and he didn't know what to do. We tried everything he knew and nothing worked. I don't want to return the router cause I read it was very good, but I need internet for school. I have Rev. A and F/W 2.00.
I have a 7100 router that has some servers behind it. I need to translate each server to a public IP. The only thing is that between the outside world and the router is an ASA. We have a small data center where the ASA is connected to a core switch on the inside and the ISP on the outside. How would I do the NAT/PAT translations on the 7100 and then have them pass through the ASA? for example:
I am trying to configure Zone Based Firewall (IOS 15.2T) on Cisco 881 router for IPv6. Current setup is simple:
Zone: LAN --> WAN zone security LAN zone security WAN ! class-map type inspect match-any Internet-cmap match protocol dns match protocol http match protocol https [ code ] ........
Current configuration behaves as expected for IPv4, but blocks all IPv6 traffic. If zone-security is removed from WAN interface IPv6 works normally (connected to Internet). As soon as zone-security is enabled on WAN interface all IPV6 traffic is discarded when connecting to Internet from local LAN.
Error messages on console: Half-open Sessions source destination tcp SIS_OPENING/TCP_SYNSENT
Are there any special settings for ZBF which should be turned on for IPv6 protocol?
