Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Force A Specific Speed For The Local Ports?
Sep 14, 2011Is there a way to force a specific speed for the local ports? I'd prefer not to rely on the autonegotiation.

View 5 RepliesHow do I go about opening specific ports on an E4200?I'm having disconnect issues with a particular game, and the Customer Service drone thinks the ports required for the game aren't open. I can't get on it on my MacBook, or iPad but I can when I'm on 3G on my phone.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with my E4200 but cannot find the right combination of settings. My problem: I bought the router for cable internet that never happened. In the meantime I am accessing the web using a 3G dongle. Hoewever, while connected to the router (wired or wireless), all the PC's in my home refuses to access the 3G internet - it is as if it wants to use the E4200 to access the net, no matter what. So every time I want to access the internet, I have to disconnect the PC from the home network, and connect with the 3G on that particulat PC. (I have three PC's at home, 1 wired and two wireless). If I set the E4200 to bridge mode, I struggle to find a logical IP address, since I would ideally like to run the network at 192.168.1.X. How do I set the E4200 to allow a home network to be established without having to disconnect everytime I use the 3G on a PC? Also, it seems that if the router doesn't handle the DHCP duties, win7 by default makes the network public, which complicates sharing a lot...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to an E4200 from a D-Link DIR-655. I cannot seem to get my desktop to connect to the E4200 at 1 GBS. My adapter is set to "auto negotiate" but will only connect at 100 MBS. If I try forcing the adapter setting to 1 GBS, it never connects. I can swap out my E4200 with the DIR-655 and it will connect at 1 GBS just fine. I am using a CAT 5E cable. Is there something I'm missing here or is the E4200 just more finicky than the the DIR-655?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with new E4200 WAN speed. I have 1Gb connection from my ISP, and my old Netgear router gives me about 350 Mbps WAN speed, but with new E4200 I only got 110 Mbps max download speed.Cisco live support tried suggested to change MTU from Auto to 1400 (and try different wlan channels, even that I don't use wlan). This MTU size change makes no difference with WAN speed. I have latest firmaware installed, router reseted several times, tried different cables etc. Also with same cable sets my old Netgear still gives about 3 times better WAN speed.WAN port (and all LAN ports) seems to negotiated at 1000 Mbps at both ONT (optical network terminal) and Linksys settings page, but unfortanately there is no way to change the setting from auto to manual at E4200 settings (and it is not possible to change any settings of ONT by user). I was thinking that if somehow it won't auto negotiate properly (even if the setting page says its ok) but maybe it actually negotiated 100 Mbps port to WAN.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've lost connectivity with all but one of the ethernet ports on my E4200 router. My desktop PC was connected to Port 1 but stopped working. Network troubleshooting via my Windows 7 Dell 8300 said I was not connected and to check the cable. I did that with several different cables and tried the usual router and modem reset. Only through trial and error did I find that I could connect to port 4 which is why I am able to write this post. What could have changed to disable ports 1-3 and can I get them working again? No issues with wireless connectivity.

The Windows 7 diagnositic on all three computers tells me "Local Area Connection, doesn't have a valid IP configuration."Model: E4200v1..I am using a new E4200 router, along with a new SE1500 5-port switch and a new SE2800 8-port switch.I am using a wired network that consists of two desktop computers, a laptop computer, a network printer, three Direct TV recorders, two Roku streaming video players, a BluRay player, and an XBox gaming console. Here is what I have done so far.
1- I can bypass the router to establish a direct wired connection to the cable modem. This works to access the internet. It establishes a new wired connection called Network 2.
2- I can access the internet using the wireless connection to the router. It shows a valid IPv4 address.
3- With all cables in place, all the lights are flashing on the router and on the computers.
4- I had changed cables and swapped cable ends.
5- Using the wireless connection, I can access the router home page (192.168.1.1). It shows valid IP addresses.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an E4200 and noticed that the wireless speed keeps dropping as it stays connected. As soon as I power it on, my iPhone and notebook connect at 54Mb, but as they remain connected, the speed keeps dropping to 48, 36 and one morning, my phone was oscillating between 5 and 11. The iPhone was almost at the same spot, and the signal was around 85~95%. On my 3 year old DIR-300, the speed don't change at all, and it's in a place where I can see around 15 connections. On the E4200 I can only see 2 other networks.I've already tried switching channels, fixed and auto channel, updating firmware and a few other common configurations. At first, I thought it was my repeater, but I turned it off and it didn't work. Turn my cordless phone off didn't change it also.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI posted my complaint on Amazon.com recently. My E4200 router stopped allowing traffic through ports completely. I was able to unplug the power and allow the router to cool, and the router would work for a while then stop after about 10 minutes. I assume that the unit was overheating, but I do not have the equipment of a test facility.I bought a Belkin AC 1200 router which is a bit of an upgrade from Amazon.com. I do not think that there is anything that Linksys can do for me as my warranty expired. I just thought that when I spent what was to me a lot of money the router should have lasted longer.
View 5 Replies View Relatedmy old D-link DGL-4300 was rock steady showing 54 Mbps constant speed (link rate) (in Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit Wireless Network Connection Status window). The new E4200 jumps around from 72 Mbps to 114 Mbps to 130 Mbps to 144 Mbps. However, it mainly stays at 72 Mbps. I have seen 150 Mbps briefly but I have never seen 300 Mbps. I have even placed my laptop within 2 -3 ft of the router and have a strong signal (4 bars) but I still have the same link rate issue. I would think that Windows would show 300 Mbps link rate for my connection when it is that close to the router. My laptop is a Toshiba with an integrated Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN wireless adapter. My son also has a Toshiba laptop with the same wireless adapter but he gets lower speeds than mine due to the fact that he is 50' away in another room in the house. His connection also jumps around but it is at lower link rates than mine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had my 4200 for about 1.5 months now and it was working great until 8 days ago. I was playing WoW over wireless (like I always have) and noticed that I was lagging a bit. I brushed it off as possibly my internet connection. The next day I was surfing the net and at random times webpages wouldn't load or would take longer to load. I checked my wireless connection properties in windows and noticed that the link speed drops out every now and then. It'll start at 54Gb (only have G in the house, so I disabled the 5GHz and set 2.4GHz to B/G only), then it'll drop to 48, 36, 11, 1. Meanwhile the signal doesn't drop a bit. I'm still connected to the router just the link speed drops out and it just started. It's very annoying having to go old school and hook up wired on my laptops just in order to chat online or anything. I'm still using v 1.0.0 firmware, so I guess I could try upgrading to .03 and see. But I personally doubt that is the issue since this just randomly started happening. I ordered the router through newegg.com and I do not have the box for the router anymore so I don't think I can return it. And I can't be without a router for 4-6 weeks while Linksys/Cisco repairs mine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty new to networking. Purchased a E4200 for my home line. When i connect directly through the modem i see speeds of about 600mbps but when i connect through the router via an ethernet cable on an empty port on the back of my e4200 my speeds drop to about 180mbps. I expected a speed loss going through wireless but why i am experiencing a speed loss by using the ethernet as a passthrough? I thought the ethernet ports on the e4200 were gigabit and support up to 1000mbps?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've just set up my E4200 and none of my wireless N clients connect at full speed. Irrespective of what wireless settings I use they all seem to connect at around half speed. My laptop for example insists on connecting at 144.4 Mbps though it supports 300 Mbps. Periodically it will connect at 300Mbps, but the next time the I reconnect or I make a settings change on the router (irrespective of what the change is) the speed drops back to 144.4. Clients that support 150Mbps connect a consistent 65Mbps.I'm running FW 1.0.02, though the problem existed with 1.0.01 (I hard reset before and after upgrade) and I've tried re-flasing the 1.0.02 firmware.Any combination of channel, width, mode and security type etc doesn't seem to influence the performance. Nor does distance (the client above is 3ft from the router). My previous router was located in exactly the same place as the E4200 and I had a solid full speed connection all over the house.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI posted this in the wired forum, because it's the wired speed that is limited, but it looks like there's more E4200 expertise over here, so here it is again:
I have Hotwire fiber service and the plan is supposed to provide 20 megabit downlink speeds.
I just bought a Linksys/Cisco E4200 to replace an old Dell TrueMobile 2300 from 2004. With that router I got the full advertised downlink speed.
Now, when I run a speed test with the E4200 in place, the downlink speed is only 5168 kbps or so. Watching the speed test meters, I see the data arriving in bursts, every few seconds a whole lot of it gets through, then for a second or two nothing. It's pretty regular.
But, if I run a speed test with the ONT cable plugged right into a laptop, I see 19001 kbps - close enough to 20. This is the same cable that plugs into the back of the router.
With E4200 in place Direct into laptop what I can check or configure in the E4200 to change this behavior?
i have a newly formatted (i.e. empty) 2TB WD my book elite which when i connect it to my computers usb port, can transfer a 6gb video file at over 100MB/s according to the win 7 detail box. However, when i connect it to the usb port on the back of the e4200 and try to transfer the same file, it only goes at 8MB/s max ... it appears to be going at usb 1 speed. i've got the latest firmware on both the e4200 and the my book 1111 and everything seems to be working fine for both, except this transfer rate when connected to the e4200.granted, cisco doesn't specifically list this drive as being tested, but the router does recognize it and shows it as usb 2.0, but yet the transfer speed is just too slow.8MB/s is just not workable...i could just connect the drive directly to the computer and share it that way, but connecting it to the e4200 was one of the reasons i bought the e4200.
