View 1 RepliesIn my home We have 3 pcs.
1. my personal PC1
2. home or general PC2
3. wireless PC (not important here.)so PC1 and PC2 are connected directly to internet via this [URL] modem router. I have full control over everything and I did setup the whole thing. We have a limited bandwidth internet plan, but a lot of bandwidth is easily used up by PC2.I want to limit the speed of internet access on that PC2 so that downloading becomes impossible or difficult.
We have Cisco ASA 5510, I am about to add another 2 Objectgroup network groups on the firewall to our already growing list. Under this Object-group Network xxxx , we are planning to add about about 500 network-object host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx . This objectgroup will then be applied to an ACL. Just wanted to know if thats possible - meaning addnig 500 hosts? If it is whats the limit?
Also are there any other things to keep in mind before i go-ahead with this huge object group?
Unlike most DVR's, this particular model has a 4-Channel RJ-45 input (others normally have analog BNC video inputs) this is achieved since the cameras come with video baluns which make use of ethernet (RJ-45) wire.can I have such a set-up without using a DVR, instead I would channel 4 cameras to a wireless router with 4 RJ-45 inputs? From there maybe I could connect it to the internet for remote viewing or to a home network for better streaming / saving video recorded into hard disk?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been through pages and pages of Google and Bing searches, and I've found plenty who have this issue, but none who seem to get it solved. Three computers, all running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, are members of a Homegroup that functioned perfectly for more than a year until Tuesday of this week. On Tuesday, I installed Windows updates and also updated from Norton 360 v5 to v6.Computer A and B don't have password protected logins to Windows; Computer C is password protected. Until Tuesday, A and B have never been required to enter a password to access shared files and folders on C. Computer A still communicates fine in both directions with B and C, without having to enter C's Windows login credentials. B can be accessed by C, but when B attempts to access the C libraries that are shared by C to the Homegroup, the appropriate shared folders are shown (Documents, Pictures, etc.), but instead of their usual icons, the icons look like this: url... and if I try to click on them, I am prompted for a Network Password like this: url... The name following "Enter your network password to connect to:" is the name of C, and the "Domain" shown below the password block is the name of B. (Domains aren't even possible with Home Premium, are they?)
If I enter C's username and password I can access C from B, but upon rebooting B it starts all over again, even if I click "Remember my credentials." Sometimes I don't get the prompt and instead am told that I don't have permission to view
Anyway, I have a cable connection with a modem and a D-Link wireless router. Some of the users are abusing the bandwidth, making it difficult for others to surf the net. What's the easiest way to set a bandwidth limit for each user? Also, it is possible to do it through the router as I don't want to keep my computer running the whole time?
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe want to set up a wireless user group in our town between a few friends and new people who are interested to join. As far as I heard I don't need a ICASA License for the 5.8GHz Frequency if we are using it for a non profit orginization, so we may use that.
1 x Routerboard
3 x Radio Plugin Boards
3 x 120degree Antennas
to set up a 360degree HS (Highsite). Then at each person's house we will need:
1 x Routerboard
1 x Radio Plugin Board
1 x Whichever Antenna
Is that correct? Then also if we wanto run VoIP on our network, how do I do that? Basicly we want to use it for gaming, file sharing and VoIP. No Internet of anything else.
On board NIC: Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Controller (asus sabertooth x79 motherboard)I installed the drivers for it from intel's site.f I set link speed to auto (chooses 100mbps full duplex) or 100mbps full or half duplex, any HTTP downloads get slowed to a crawl (30kbps) (steam downloads remain at normal speeds). If I set it to 10mbps full duplex, download speeds jump to normal (500kbps for most HTTP sources)his happens on just this new computer (wired connection), any other computers on the network (wireless) work just fine

I have two cisco 4506-E series switches ..
We are planning to go for HSRP redundancy for 32 VLANs. Means In a Cisco 4506-E switch , we will configure 32 vlans and among them 16 vlans will be primary and 16VLANs will be standby ans it is viceversa in another core-switch
My querie is How many standby groups can we create in Cisco 4506-E switch,
Is there any limitation..
If there is any limitation , can we go ahead with VRRP,GLBP? Are there any limitation in VRRP/GLBP? Is there any design related issue can we face if we use same group number to all VLANs?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a homeplug network as follows:
6x 85Mbps homeplugs in different rooms, each connected to a 5 port switch
2x rooms contain a PC
5x rooms contain a Squeezebox of various types
Router connected to homeplug
I have realised that I am only getting very slow network speeds of between 10-15Mbps (LAN SPeed Test)which affects Squeezebox's ability to play several devices synched up at a time playing 320Kbps MP3s
I have done some proprietory testing in my home by switching devices on & off & testing network speed accordingly but no significant gains seem to be made. One PC seems to report far lower speeds though at 5Mbps which is 3 times lower than the other PC. They are set up to read/write files from eachothers shared folders (but not simultaneously).1st question is, am I being realistic about the speed of data throughput I expect on a network of this type? I was expecting a much higher speed like 50Mbps.I wouldn't mind investing in the faster Homeplug system but having to buy 6x adapters isn't worth it if I will only get a marginal improvement.
Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.
This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00
It is a Broadcom Wireless N...
What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.
Does a 802.11g compatible device on a 802.11n network slow the whole network down to 802.11g speed?I want to integrate a Logitech Squeezebox into my 802.11n home network but it is only rated at 802.11g.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHome Group on Windows 7. I have added a room mate to my home group (just two of us in group). I don't want either of us to be able to view or share files, folders, etc. I think I've done everything on my end: turned off Network Discovery; turned off file and printer sharing; turned off Public Folder sharing. Also turned off automatic file/printer sharing in Norton firewall.
1) do I need to do anything else, and;
2) what does room mate have to do on his computer (if anything)?
I've spent quite a bit of time trying to figure this out on my own but somehow I don't feel quite sure that all my files/folders are not viewable by anyone else.
I have cisco sr520 adsl router. I have configured two vlans i need in vlan 2 speed only 2 Mbit/s from 6Mbit/s (full speed).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe need to have one connection with less internet bandwidth assigned to it than all other other connections. Basically it is a separate conection from all others, incoming just from one switch port and separate VLAN.I know this can be done on the switch by limiting the bandwidth allocated to a port,
however, is it possible to have the speed limited down, just before it goes to the internet, ie, on the ASA, rather than doing it on the switch? The firewall is an ASA 5505.
I am working on a business network that was setup by another tech. Basically the connection comes from the modem to a 16 port switch (13 being used), and is going to each computer.. I'm thinking of tossing a router between the modem and switch to see if this works. Basically what it is doing is each computer accesses a database on the server, and occasionally they are losing connection to the database.. I did change all of the stations to static IP as they were all dynamic.
