Jan 24, 2013On board NIC: Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Controller (asus sabertooth x79 motherboard)I installed the drivers for it from intel's site.f I set link speed to auto (chooses 100mbps full duplex) or 100mbps full or half duplex, any HTTP downloads get slowed to a crawl (30kbps) (steam downloads remain at normal speeds). If I set it to 10mbps full duplex, download speeds jump to normal (500kbps for most HTTP sources)his happens on just this new computer (wired connection), any other computers on the network (wireless) work just fine

Jul 30, 2012We have been deploying 3502 APs remotely to locations with full T1s that backhaul to where I sit at HQ. Both the foreign and anchor controller are here at my location.
I am seeking to rate limit per user the bandwidth each client will get on the guest internet ssid. As you know this traffic is encapsulated in capwap between the AP and the controller so I cant use a standard ACL on the switch or router.
We are trying to keep the guest internet access usage in check on the T1 at any given site so the other ssid's & local lan traffic is not overly competing for the bandwidth.
I found the place to edit the default profiles in the controller but the documentation really isnt clear on best practices.
So I put it to you my fellow wireless engineers to suggest how you are implementing bandwidth management on your wireless guest internet.
Oh and here is my hardware & software levels.

I use Netflow Analyzer for high bandwidth usage alerts and can see the user's IP right away when someone is clogging our T1s. My goal is to be able to temporarily limit the bandwidth of the user taking over the T1. Whatever is best switch config or on the router.

Dec 28, 2010I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months.
