Cisco Firewall :: 5510 - Display User Message When User Connects Using AnyConnect Client?

Apr 20, 2009

We are using an ASA 5510 and remote access (SSL VPN) using the AnyConnect client.

Is it possible to display a user message when a user connects using the AnyConnect client, matching a specific dynamic access policy?  Can the message be displayed when the action is "Continue" rather than "Terminate"?  I can't seem to get this to work and wondered if there was a LUA function to do this.

We have a DAP which gives a restricted ACL when the user's anti-virus is out of date, and I wanted to notify the user to update their anti-virus and reconnect.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Limit Bandwidth For Specific User On Switch Or Router?

Jan 24, 2013

configuring a switch or a router to limit the bandwidth for a specific user/IP when need it. Most of my remote offices are configured like this:

Users ------ 3560 switch ------- 2801 router -------- T1 to NOC -------- 7204 router with channelized DS3

I use Netflow Analyzer for high bandwidth usage alerts and can see the user's IP right away when someone is clogging our T1s. My goal is to be able to temporarily limit the bandwidth of the user taking over the T1.  Whatever is best switch config or on the router.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502 - WLC User Rate Limit On Guest SSID Anchor Controller

Jul 30, 2012

We have been deploying 3502 APs remotely to locations with full T1s that backhaul to where I sit at HQ. Both the foreign and anchor controller are here at my location.

I am seeking to rate limit per user the bandwidth each client will get on the guest internet ssid. As you know this traffic is encapsulated in capwap between the AP and the controller so I cant use a standard ACL on the switch or router.

We are trying to keep the guest internet access usage in check on the T1 at any given site so the other ssid's & local lan traffic is not overly competing for the bandwidth.

I found the place to edit the default profiles in the controller but the documentation really isnt clear on best practices.

So I put it to you my fellow wireless engineers to suggest how you are implementing bandwidth management on your wireless guest internet.

Oh and here is my hardware & software levels.

Cisco WAN :: ASA 5520 / Limit Bandwidth For Streaming?

Feb 24, 2011

The Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 is upon us, and NRK, the national broadcaster of Norway, is offering HD streaming via the Akamai network.I run a network with 5000 users. Our internet bandwidth is usually 300mbps, but we've increased it to 500mbps for the duration of the Ski Championship. that did not work, because of the HD streaming. The internet link is delivered on a fiber trunk with many other VLANs, and my first piece of equipment in the chain is a Cisco 3560G (C3560-IPBASEK9-M), Version 12.2(46)SE). A port on the 3560G is then set to switchport access vlan "internet-vlan", and that port is connected to a routed port on my Cisco 6509-Sup720-10G ( (s72033_rp-ADVIPSERVICESK9_WAN-M), Version 12.2(33)SXH3a). The 6500 then routes the traffic to a Cisco ASA 5520 (running 8.2(4)).What I'd like to do, is to limit the total bandwidth of all conversations between our IPs and the nearest Akamai IP-range, which is 195.18.221.128/25.How can I achieve that? I've tried to read the QoS chapter from the manual of the 3560G 12.2(46), but QoS is very complex stuff?

Cisco :: ACLs To Limit Ports With Client - Based VPN Tunnel

Jun 16, 2011

I have a customer I've built a webvpn tunnel for.Users on this tunnel need to have http access to a server at 10.1.1.12 and nothing else. That's fine, but in order for name resolution to work properly they need to be able to send DNS requests to 10.1.1.9.I'm working with two different access lists, my non access list (nat 0) and my split tunnel access list. I can't specify ports in the nat 0 access list, but I did try writing my split tunnel access list as follows:

-access-list split permit ip host 10.1.1.12 172.16.4.0 255.255.255.0
-access-list split permit udp host 10.1.1.9 eq 53 172.16.4.0 255.255.255.0

When I do that users can access the 10.1.1.9 dns server, but they can hit it on anything (ping, 3389, etc.).I'm trying to figure out how I can limit them so they will only be able to pull dns but nothing else. They have the Any connect Essentials license, so unfortunately a clientless VPN is not an option. Is there some other access list I can interpose that will limit things the way I want?

Other w lan ssid's on the same access points/controller need full data rates, so i guess i can't use the RF-profiling for this.

Cisco WAN :: 5520 User VPN Through Secondary Internet

Dec 18, 2011

We have an ASA 5520 in production with a brand new internet feed we've just finished installing. We connect to our corporate office via a VPLS. In our corporate office we have a Cisco 1841 (I think that was the year it's made! ) with an ADSL feed with a static IP address plugged in directly.

We have a user VPN that we integrate with our user directory on the router, which connects via the ADSL. The users get an IP addres at the tail end of the 172.31.14.0/24 range, which is the same as one of our corporate subnets (we just reserver a few address, we don't have many VPN users).

Both the ASA and the router connect to each other (via the VPLS) on the internal subnet 10.255.255.0/24.

-The ASA is 10.255.255.1
-The router is 10.255.255.100

Currently the default route for the corporate office goes out the Dialer interface for the ADSL, which means that's where our internet goes out there (all proxying aside, we'll leave that out of this one). ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer1

We'd like to change that default route to go via the VPLS to the ASA, and then out to the internet using the new feed. All the ACLs and rules are in place at both ends for this to work. If I change the default route on the router to: ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.255.255.1Then it works as expected.

The problem is that then the user VPN breaks. I had hoped I wouldn't have to do any configuration on this but it looks to be so. I'm guessing that the VPN packets are coming in via the ADSL and back out via the new internet. It would be simple if the remote client had a static IP address as I could put in a static route for each user, but it's always going to be dynamic.

What do I need to put in place to get this working? I thought maybe I could leave the default route via the ADSL and put in a next hop rule to go via the VPLS for the specific subnets that need the new internet, i.e. have a subnet specific default gateway, is this possible? (I gave it a go but it didn't seem to work, I think I didn't implement it properly though as it still went via the ADSL, maybe because there is a nat route-map as well?).

Cisco VPN :: 5520 AnyConnect Can Auth A Machine And Then A User?

Aug 10, 2012

We are rolling out a new VPN infrastructure utilizing ASA 5520's (one active/standby cluster at each of our two sites) and making the conversion from the old IPsec client over to AnyConnect 2.5 clients. We do have AnyConnect Premium licenses at both sites, but are not utilizing ISE. What we want to do is first auth the machine that's trying to initiate the AC VPN session to determine if it a company-owned machine (with the idea that only co-owned machines can connect), and then auth the user using RADIUS, which uses attribute 25 to assign them into groups for policy application. We have the RADIUS piece working now, but is there a way to first do the machine auth, and then the user auth? We don't just want to use something like cert-based VPN because if the machine gets stolen (or a non-co user otherwise gets into the OS) then we don't want the non-legit user to be able to establish a VPN session just because they have access to a company machine. The other rub is that the machine auth solution must be cross-OS compatible (we use a mix of Windows, MacOS and Linux on the machines that should be allowed to VPN.)
