Linksys E1200 Router - How To Limit Wi-Fi Speed
Jul 5, 2013
I was wondering if theres a program or something that I could use for my router to limit the bandwidth that it gives on wifi? I currently have about a 20down/2up connection from time warner with a linksys E1200 router.
I just want to limit the wifi speeds to about 70% because recently someone moved in that does a lot of downloads and makes my games go from 40 ping to 300+ and also my phone is through the internet, which becomes unusable.
just some simple setting to set the max wifi data to 13megabits/s down 1mbit up or something.

I just purchased an e1200 wireless router. Wireless speeds seem to be very slow. I'm trying to transfer 1 file to my media server, and am only getting 221kb/s. Also, internet connection seems to be slow as well (though if I plug directly into the router or the modem, I get speeds of 25Mbps, however when connecting wirelessly via the router I get speeds closer to 2Mbps (according to speedtest.com).I've played around with the settings as per other posts, and seemed to get the best speeds with the following config (however it is still very poor):
- security mode: WPA2 Personal
- network mode: B/G (have also tried N, which gave worse speeds)
- channels 1,3,6,9, and 11

Both the router and modem are new. Connecting directly to the modem I get Mbps, but the router speed is Kbps. I upgraded the firmware and made various changes per Google searches

I bought a E1200 and have it hooked up to my Comcast internet.. When I have my computer hooked up directly to the modem I get a 30mbps download speed. When I connect it to my router the download speed crashes to about .5-.75mbps.. My upload stays pretty stable at around 6-7mbps.

I bought a brand new Linksys E1200 v2 and I encountered a big problem.
Without the router I am able to reach over 90 Mbps doawnloading torrents on wired connection, but through the router I can't obtain more than 55 Mbps.
Is the problem in settings or that's just the maximum speed that the router can handle for wan2lan ? Do I need an upgrade?

I just bought a Cisco e1200 router... and the wireless connection is way too slow, when navigating through the web, but when using speed test, the connection seems fine, but still it even takes more than usual to open simple pages, lets say Google... i usually watch streams and now that i cannot do... when i connect directly i can do everything as usual...as i have read, i change channels, but still no improvement, i have the latest firmware, on my range there are only 2 more available connections... i even tried disabling/enabling the WMM... We all know that having extremely slow internet must be the real "Mayan apocalypse"

I installed an E1200 router today. It automatically upgraded the firmware to the latest when I did this. Everything went smoothly.
I connected my desktop wired and my laptop wireless. I ran three different speed tests: Xfinity, speedtest, and cnet. All three showed 25-35 Mbps download and 4-5 Mbps upload. That is what my old router had too. So far, so good.
I ran the speed test that came with the E1200 router. It showed 0.30- 0.66 Mbps download and 0.58 - 2.09 Mbps upload. Note the decimal points!
Bottom line: The E1200 seems to be working fine, except that its internal speed test seems to be broken, at least when testing from a wired machine.

I just bought this router and set it up using its CD. It looked like everything was fine until I connected my laptop using wireless. The wireless download speed is absolutely ridiculous. My wired desktop shows 35mbps while my laptop is 0.5mbps. Upload is same for both. Clearly something is limiting my download wireless.
Contacted Cisco support and they told me to change the mtu to 1400, change channel to 11 and reboot. Nothing worked. I have the latest software.

How can I limit bandwidth speed of guest accounts? Or are there free softwares available to do something like that? It's kinda like the hotspot softwares - where we can set hourly, daily, monthly allowances and see a report on their connectivity.

My newly installed E1200 only sends speeds of about 16 mbps wireless, but sends the ful 60 mpbs when wired. What is going on. Firmware is up to date. Changing the channels didn't do anything. Is there a way to figure out if the problem is with my laptops wireless card.

I have a year old E1200 router. I just updated the firmware today, made adjustments to the MTU range to suit cable service and selected a different channel (9) as the neighbors were mostly on channels 2 and 6.My question is really in regard to the speed results of the router. In the immediate room where the router is located I am getting 17.6 Mbs download speed/ 3.53 upload speeds but if I move to my living room - less than 20 feet away and a few walls - the upload speed drops sharply to 3.21 Mbs download/3.21Mbs uploas.I have read where the router placement can be key. My router is sitting on the desktop. If I elevate the router will it improve performance 20 feet away or should I invest in upgraded router like a E3200 or look into a plug in type repeater?

I have a Linksys E1200 router, which replaced a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The WRT54G ran perfectly, but did not support wireless N, so I replaced it with the Linksys E1200. The router is physically located in a good spot, up high and centrally located in my house.Problem is, my download speed on my android tablet, xBox, iPhone is very slow, yet my upload speed is screaming fast.
Wireless: Ping: 30ms, Download 1.93Mbps, Upload 6.27Mbps.
Wired: Ping: 14, Download 17.88 Mbps, Upload 6.7Mbps.
I've changed channels on my router, changed channel width. Connection type is DHCP. My security is WPA2. I use the wireless MAC filter (allow only these MAC addresses access). No parental controls, I don't use port forwarding or triggering, and my firmware is up-to-date. why my speed changed from the older router to the newer router?

On board NIC: Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Controller (asus sabertooth x79 motherboard)I installed the drivers for it from intel's site.f I set link speed to auto (chooses 100mbps full duplex) or 100mbps full or half duplex, any HTTP downloads get slowed to a crawl (30kbps) (steam downloads remain at normal speeds). If I set it to 10mbps full duplex, download speeds jump to normal (500kbps for most HTTP sources)his happens on just this new computer (wired connection), any other computers on the network (wireless) work just fine

I own a cyber cafe. I was told that switches are smart enough to distribute the same speed to all the clients. So I was not worried at first. But now if 2-3 customers starts watching youtube videos the rest starts complaining about the speed. I googled for the solution but got none. How to limit the speed,I want to lock the bandwidth of each computer.

3. wireless PC (not important here.)so PC1 and PC2 are connected directly to internet via this [URL] modem router. I have full control over everything and I did setup the whole thing. We have a limited bandwidth internet plan, but a lot of bandwidth is easily used up by PC2.I want to limit the speed of internet access on that PC2 so that downloading becomes impossible or difficult.

I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

We need to have one connection with less internet bandwidth assigned to it than all other other connections. Basically it is a separate conection from all others, incoming just from one switch port and separate VLAN.I know this can be done on the switch by limiting the bandwidth allocated to a port,
however, is it possible to have the speed limited down, just before it goes to the internet, ie, on the ASA, rather than doing it on the switch? The firewall is an ASA 5505.

I am connected to the internet fine, but there are some websites that when I try to navigate to them, it just loads forever (White page) [URL] I Also, some download links don't work (Flash, or Skype)I have a DSL connection with a modem and a Linksys E1200 router and I am hooked into the router via Ethernet cable. I have no antivirus software installed and windows firewall is disabled The other computer on the network and my wireless device can access all websites just fine, and even when I plug my pc directly into the modem it. I have already checked to see if the websites are having issues; they are not. I have reset my router and set it up again multiple times, I have re-installed my drivers, I even reformatted my computer (it needed it anyway..)I first assumed it was an issue with the DNS, I currently have it automatically assign a DNS and I tried using Googles DNS but the issue remained.
