I am using Linksys wirelless G router, will my wired speed on desktop increase when I change to a wirelless N router for laptop and ethernet for wired desk top? I don't need anymore wireless speed but am wondering if I upgrade will my wired desktop pick up more speed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

My ISP is providing 15Mbps to my modem, which I've confirmed by connecting directly to it without the router. Once I put the router back in the path, my broadband speed drops to about 6 Mbps. Is this the best I can expect from this router?

View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently my desktop has experienced very slow download speeds (~0.11 Mbps), however the upload speed appears to be in line (~2.0Mbps). These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months. The desktop in question uses Vista 32-bit and the Belkin Basic USB Wireless Adapter.

I got two different answers - No surprise.So, I ask the forum, what file transfer speeds should I expect when transfering a good sized amount of data (10gig) from wired PC on a 10/100/1000 network router to another PC via wireless connection 20 (feet away + two walls) using 802.11N.Both PC's are new / newer with win 7 64 bit. - Current transfer speeds - Both wired and wireless internet download speed tests are arond 21 meg per second. Both PC's wired and wireless get around 3.7 meg per second internet download (speed tests).At this point - no real difference in internet access between PC's and wired / wireless.
However, when I copy a file from PC1 to PC 2 (both wired) I get 68 megs per second. When I transfer the same data set (10 gig) from PC1 wired to PC 2 wireless, the data transfer falls to 3.7 meg per second. One rep told me to expect about 80% of my wired rate or about 54 megs per second (when using my 802.11N 300meg) equipment. The other rep (same company) told me that the 3.7 meg per second ia about the best I can expect. A transfer rate of 3.7 megs per second simply does not appear to be a reasonable speed given that all my wireless equipment is pretty new and supports numbers that are much higher

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe building Im in currently has Broadband fitted but was at a very low speed, I phoned my provider (SKY) who boosted the line but said we should be getting full speed as we are really close to the exchange.I live in a large building with 5 other people all using the net/xboxes. The guy at SKY pointed out that we were maybe not plugged into the main phone port. This was new to me as I assumed all phone lines into a building were evenly matched. I then searched the whole building and found (what I think to be as it has a dividing line like he mentioned on the front plate) the main phone port into the building. Unfortunately its on the very top floor.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIm on BT broadband, and have 2 phonelines in my house. the broadband was on phoneline A. However, to save money we shut down phoneline A and switched to phoneline B. However, the signal quality on B has dropped like a stone. The Downstream speeds are normal, but the download speed is 0.24, compared to the 2.05 it was before.
Yesterday i rang BT to tell about the problem, and after 30 minutes of 'checking' they decided to put our broadband on a higher profile? and reassured me that this would sort our problem. Our downstream speeds now read 0.13. Its made the problem a lot worse.
If I am wired to my WRT160N I get close to 50 Mps when I go wireless I get half of that speed and apparently there is nothing to change or to improve at the wireless settings.Some said that this is totally normal for wireless, have 1/2 of the wired speed.

I use the ATT wireless modem/router.With the Mac my download speed is almost 16 MB/s so everything seems working well.With my PC (WIN XP) the download speed is limited to less than 6 MB/s. Recently we had a issue on replication then we stopped about 20 replication. And now issue is fixed, we are started replication. Average replication is 75%, we need to reach it 100% ASAP. I have recently had problems with slow broadband speeds on my PC. I appear to be getting upto 2mbps when I should be getting close to 40mb. I have been in contact with Sky and they are now sending me a new router, but I now think its not a router problem because I put on my Sony Blu ray player which is connected to the router and loaded up a movie in crackle and its showing that im getting 28mbps & the Xbox 360 doesnt appear to be lagging with any speed issues.I have scanned PC with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & Spybot - Search & Destroy and a virus scan with Avast which bring up nothing.Also upto a week ago i was using Microsoft security essentials but during a scan it stopped working and kept switching off. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a 2 month old e3000 with the latest firmware. (1.04 i believe) I have run speedtests from wired and wireless machines on my network. All of the wired connections show a speed of around 15Mps (which is consistent with my providers guaranteed speed) but when I test any of the wireless connections I get somewhere between 3 and 7 Mps. I get the same degradation in speed when I stand directly next to the e3000.
Other then SSID and Passphrases I have everything set to the default settings. I have rebooted multiple times with no change. The e3000 is mounted on a 2x4 with several feet of clearance all around and is also located in the coolest part of the house. I am using Speedtest.Net for all the tests.
Yesterday, I changed my old belkin n1 router with Linksys WRT54GL router. Ever since them my upstream speed is really slow. I did the speedtest its like .5mbit. My downstream speed is just fine. This issue is only on wired computers, upstream speed on wireless computers is just fine.I retested router & modem several times, my upstream speed is normal when I connect cable directly from modem to my computer.Current Firmware Version is 4.30.14 build 5.

Connection speed on the Laptop Studio used to be 60 Mbit wireless . Haven’t checked speed for many week but yesterday foundout that the speed dropped to 12 MB. Wired the laptop to the router, connection wend up to 98 Mbit.
Wireless again the speed dropped to 12 MBit. Checked the wireless connection with another laptop and it went up again to 70 Mbit. What could be wrong on the Studio 1555?
Cleaned the computer, no malware, Mode AP, Channel 11, WPA2
The card Broadcom driver 10-01-2008, version 5.30.21.0
The card works but the 12 Mbit should be at least 60 Mbit.
